Morocco with less than 3 months on the passport

My son flies to Morocco tomorrow. It's his first holiday as an adult without us (he's 19). He's planned and paid for it all but has messed up the dates on his Passport. He needs at least 3 months on it but is 5 days short of this. Has anyone else travelled without the required amount of time left on their passport.
I'm gutted for him. He's worked hard to pay for it and has organized everything else himself.
TIA

What is the actual expiry date, did he have time added from previous one which may still count in Morocco.

Or do you mean 7th July 2024? Which is 85

It was issued on 8th July 2019 and expires 8th July 2024 which I counted 85 days if he flies tomorrow. He needs at least 90.

It'll be a game of chance.

If everything was run correctly, he should be turned away at the gate, because Ryanair don't want to have to pay the fine they'll get if he's turned away at border control.

But it's possible that the gate agent will not notice, or choose to ignore the missing 5 days, and it's also possible that border control will too, and he'll be fine.

As long as he's prepared for that eventuality, it's probably worth a shot.

Tell him to be on his best behaviour, and mindful of local customs, as he would not want to draw attention to his passport while in Morocco and he would be asked for it by the police should he get into trouble - but hopefully he'd have done that anyway!

I think that's 86 days from tomorrow?

But it's definitely not 90, so it's semantics really.

@mumnosbest The UK FO advice from Morocco is at least 3 months on entry to Morocco. So he has this doesn’t he?

blanketsnuggler · 12/04/2024 21:33

we cam back from Marrakech yesterday, and our passports were scrutinised several times at the airport coming back. Literally, like 3 times.

Going in, we had to give our occupation, hotel name, boarding pass and passport. They take ages looking at it all.
Personally I wouldn't risk it. Sorry.

House4DS · 13/04/2024 11:15

@mumnosbest has he managed to check in? 🤞

thesleepyhoglet · 13/04/2024 11:25

Here for the hopeful update

Hope all goes ahead smoothly

Fingers crossed for him.
In his position he may as well try - he would be losing the money anyway.

If he can't fly he may be able to claim back the air passenger duty - though some airlines don't do this automatically and some make their charges too high to make it worthwhile.

YouveGotAFastCar · 13/04/2024 11:51

@TizerorFizz No. He’s due to enter today and he has 86 days remaining.

@mumnosbest Has he managed to check in? My fingers are crossed for him.

Update @mumnosbest ??

Pineapplewaves · 13/04/2024 20:42

OP hasn't come back so I'm guessing DC got turned away at the check in desk and is now very upset and being looked after/consoled?

mumnosbest · 14/04/2024 00:32

Hi all.
Here's my update.
It's been a long day of waiting. He got through the UK side with no issues and messaged me but then had no wifi for hours. He finally messaged me late to say that they'd barely looked at his passport and he was at his hotel. The relief is huge and we've all learnt a valuable lesson!
Thanks for all your support and advice.

Amazing news. Hope he has a fantastic trip. It's a great country to explore.

i would not risk being stranded in morroco tbh

I dont think that would happen, would it? If he gets there, he will be able to get back, it is not flying into UK that needs 3 months on your passport, it is flying out, as far as I know. Of course, IF he gets there, that is the big question
