<3 Months left on my sons passport

We are flying tomorrow to the Canaries and have realised that my 14-year son has only 86 days left on his passport.
It is impossible to get a child's passport renewed in a day, so we are going to head to the airport with our fingers crossed.
Am I wasting my time? Any advise appreciated.

You wouldn't be allowed to fly?

I don't think you would be allowed on the plane. Even if you do I don't think you would get through Spanish passport control.

Well there's nothing you can do about it now so yes I'd still go to the airport and chance it I guess

I'd come up with a good Plan B if you can't go though, DC will probably be quite upset

They definitely won't let you fly but I don't think you have an alternative.

By some miracle, if you are allowed to fly, what happens if you aren't allowed to fly back to the UK?

You won't be allowed to fly.
Sorry.

Getting back into the uk is fine assuming a British passport - the passport is still valid. It's getting into other countries that can require validity beyond the stay.

If they do make it to the Canaries (unlikely), her son will be allowed back into the UK as it's his country of citizenship.

OK I didn't realise that. But he won't be flying anyway.

You won’t be allowed to fly

We flew through Heathrow a couple of days ago, and the family at the check in counter next to ours had one child without enough time left on their passport.
They cried, got cross, tried pleading. None of it worked, it was a flat no.

If you’re going to do anything, I would call the GP with d&v symptoms, or something else that means you can’t fly so you can claim on your travel insurance

Thank you for your responses.
I thought I should provide an update.
We decided to take our chances at the airport. We were able to check in and clear border control at the other end without any questions.
It was extremely stressful and I feel we were very lucky. I will definitely check all passports in future.
