Would you spend 10% of your monthly income to upgrade to Business Class?

Flying home from Mexico City in premium economy. Got an offer of £400 to upgrade to business class. 11 hour night flight.

£400 is roughly 10% of a month’s take home pay, so it’s a lot of money.

Would you do it?

I would!

catlovingdoctor · 11/03/2024 22:09

Yes, it's not every day and it's worth it for an 11 hour night. You have good enough income to justify it- it'll be nice as a bonus at the end of a trip!

Springtime43 · 11/03/2024 22:10

No, I find premium economy is just fine, a decent compromise between economy business class

UpsideLeft · 11/03/2024 22:10

£400

Bloody hell absolutely yes

TiredCatLady · 11/03/2024 22:10

£400 is pretty cheap to upgrade for that flight - nicer food, fizz and flat bed!!!

oldestboy · 11/03/2024 22:10

YES! I have done this before and it is absolutely worth it

GLC789 · 11/03/2024 22:11

Absolutely I would!!!

For such a long flight, and a one off it would be so worth it!

Treat yo self OP!!!! Xx

Schum · 11/03/2024 22:11

Definitely for £400.

Thethingswedoforlove · 11/03/2024 22:11

i wouldn’t

mdinbc · 11/03/2024 22:13

I personally wouldn't. If you have very long legs or suffer from back issues, then maybe.

AnotherNC22 · 11/03/2024 22:14

Absolutely for a flat bed for that length of flight. I used to travel business for work on a regular basis and for me, it made such a difference to how i felt after the flight.

DillDanding · 11/03/2024 22:14

Bloody hell. £400 for business? I’d bite their hand off.

Parker231 · 11/03/2024 22:15

Definitely - so worth it

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/03/2024 22:15

Absolutely! It’s the difference between waking up refreshed at your destination and having to take a day off to recover. Go for it!

Nonewclothes2024 · 11/03/2024 22:15

Absolutely.

This

Pipeskeepleaking · 11/03/2024 22:16

Well £400 is more like 20% for me and there’s no way I would! You’ll still sleep badly and the money will be down the drain.

just think what a lovely WEEKEND you could have away w that money, on solid ground!

mitogoshi · 11/03/2024 22:18

No because the business class enclosed seats are a bit claustrophobic to me, premium economy is just fine. As premium economy is already expensive I don't think it's necessarily an amazing deal

minipie · 11/03/2024 22:18

Totally depends. What do you need to do the next day? How good are you at sleeping in economy? How much do you need that money?

Personally, I wouldn’t, because I can usually sleep enough on flights to manage (I am short), but if I had something important the next day or was really tall I might.

WilloTheWispy · 11/03/2024 22:19

Yes, for an 11 hr night flight. No brainer.

Precipice · 11/03/2024 22:23

I wouldn't spend 400 pounds on one night, no. I flew a longer flight in economy and I was fine.

But then 400 pounds is more than I spend a month, once housing and bills are excluded.

Rather than looking at it as a proportion of monthly income, I would look at it as a proportion of your spending. I think this will give a better indication of its value and price to you, and whether you consider this 400 to be a good value for money for what you're getting (more comfortable space, greater probability of a nights' sleep).

Kendodd · 11/03/2024 22:23

depends.
if i was short and could sleep easily on a plane, then no, i wouldn't

bellsbuss · 11/03/2024 22:29

That's so cheap for business , get on and book it

Gibs0nGirl · 11/03/2024 22:33

Nah, I don't think a comfier seat on a plane is worth £400.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/03/2024 22:40

If I could comfortably afford it, yes. But I can't sleep on planes, even overnight, so I usually feel dreadful after a long haul overnight flight home, so I'd give it a try to see if it would help.
