Have decided on Spain in the summer for 10 days but don't know where to go for the other holidays so tell me your plans!

2024 is Go big or Go home year!
Skiing now, Lanzarote at half term, adventure camp UK Easter, Eurocamp Whit, med cruise August

We don't normally behave so extravagantly, and the big holiday is a gift, but WooHoo!!

SLeanne · 25/01/2024 14:27

We don't go abroad anymore in the school holidays as I find the prices too expensive. We have a touring caravan and we book 2 separate weeks in the UK on large sites with swimming pools, play areas and a bit of entertainment for the kids. They love going away in the caravan anyway and always make friends hanging out at the play areas, which gives us some peace. Then we are having a week AI in Feb half term, and another in Turkey in October to satisfy my desire to have a week off from food shopping / cooking. The weather is low to mid 20's which is just how we like it. Much cheaper than in the summer plus the Feb one especially breaks up the winter.

Florida for 2 weeks at Easter (MIL paying)

Wales for a week in Aug (MIL Paying)

We're very very fortunate and I'm very grateful as we'd never be able to afford it, but MIL wants to experience disney with kids/grandkids whilst she's still fit and able to enjoy it.

There were a few eyebrows raised at everyone else's plans 😂

Nothing concrete yet so hoping for the following. Am done with long hauls and concentrating on Europe now.

Early May - 3 days Rome and 7 days in Ostia Lido. Day trip (maybe overnight) to Herculaneum and obv going to Ostia Antica. The stones and statues trip lol!

Never go in school hols so next one is early September one week. To Munich, then to Berchdesgaden and into Austria. Nothing definite yet, but will be my first time in Southern Germany.

Early November to Antwerp, Ghent then to Ypres for Remembrance Day at the Menin Gate.

December, a few weeks over Christmas and New year at my sister's little apartment in Estepona near Gibraltar. Will never spend Christmas anywhere else now!.

Am very fortunate I can do this I know that. Might add on a few trips here and there for two or three days each, you'd never know!

Ypres is so lovely, and the museum is so moving and very informative.

Easter/May/Oct half terms is always cheaper than Jul/Aug especially if you manage to book flights early. You have to be organised early though - last minute planning means less choice and usually the more expensive options left.

Oganesson118 · 25/01/2024 15:07

Booked Turkey for 2 weeks in July and Egypt for a week in October.

Considering a cheeky few days away on city break but unsure where (also CF new colleague booked all her holidays right before joining us so I now have to work around her meaning I can’t have any time off during February, Easter or May school holidays)

MinnieMountain · 25/01/2024 15:15

DH is taking DS skiing in April. I’m going to Avignon for a long weekend then.
Norfolk in May.
2 weeks in Pembrokeshire in August.
I’m going on a swimming holiday in September.
DS and I are going to Munich for a few days in October half term.

PrayForMyBum · 25/01/2024 15:21

A few days in York over the February half-term.
Three weeks Greek island-hopping in August.

That's it, and that feels extravagant (we're self-employed and taking time off isn't easy, which is why we do three weeks in summer to avoid paying for holiday clubs). How does everyone else do it?!

igglepigglegingin · 25/01/2024 15:21

Long weekend to the Lakes this weekend 🎉

South of france, villa in the summer holidays (just us family of 5)

Lodge / cabin holiday UK with extended family in the summer holidays.

NewYear24 · 25/01/2024 15:22

These threads are really good for getting ideas for future holidays.

Therealjudgejudy · 25/01/2024 15:27

Weekend in London in March

USA in July.

Mexico AI in October.

Want to go away for Christmas this year but not sure where yet. Open to suggestions 😊

MinnieMountain · 25/01/2024 15:27

@PrayForMyBum no childcare costs, no car, mortgage paid off as we live in a cheap city.

Bigtom · 25/01/2024 15:28

Florida in May
UK camping trip(s) in the summer
Canaries in October

Ibizafun · 25/01/2024 15:31

Skiing soon then South African safari.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/01/2024 15:43

Spain in February
Budapest end of April
Croatia end of September

We will also do a couple of UK breaks.

Just me and DH and retired so no need for school hols or annual leave allowance (first year for me!) and we don't live in a well-off area so have always had cheap housing costs.

Some of the UK breaks I'll be doing will be with friends or by myself to visit family .

coxesorangepippin · 25/01/2024 15:44

Back to UK in June
Some long weekends camping in summer
Fils cottage in March

MollyRover · 25/01/2024 15:48

Week in the canaries, long weekend in south of France, both with friends but without DH and DC. Haven't been away without them before so apprehensive and ecstatic at the same time. Feel selfish but full time work, young family and no support takes it's toll, both DH and I need a proper break and we'll only get it if we go alone 😢. A couple of opportunities came up so I took them!! The guilt is real though.

2 weeks Baltic coast in summer and as yet unplanned couple of long weekends with the whole family early summer and autumn. To assuage the guilt if nothing else 😅

londontonyc · 25/01/2024 16:18

We're off to Edinburgh and Inverness at Easter and have just booked a 10 night cruise to Amsterdam, Bruges, Norway and Iceland for the summer! I have never done anything like this before so any tips on cruising would be appreciated!

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2024 16:22

4 day long weekend in Budapest at the end of next month for a friends 40th.
A week UK based with dh and the kids at easter (yet to be decided!).
2 weeks in France in the summer, it’s a big family get together.
Amsterdam in September with my sisters.
Spain for a week for October half term with dh and the dc. Not sure if the 2 older ones will come and if not will take my nephew as company for ds.
Somewhere hot and sunny for 10 days with dh in November/December for my birthday (another one to be decided!).

Kittycat333 · 25/01/2024 16:48

I'm fortunate. Single, no kids, no mortgage, 45 and decent inheritance. I'm going to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Greece & Spain (for the summer) then New York, Vienna, London and Paris again for Autumn/winter. I'll be seeing family in Rome and various parts of Tuscany at some point too. I've had a horrible few years and life is short so I feel I deserve it.

Moier · 25/01/2024 16:51

Retired so we usually just book and go... usually the following.
Been to Lanzarote beginning of Jan..
Fueterventura in March.
Cyprus in May.
Corfu in June .
Somewhere in UK July/ August.. might be North Wales or Northumberland
September either Cyprus or Corfu again or another Greek island.
October/ November Lanzarote.

We only go for five nights each time.

cheezncrackers · 25/01/2024 16:55

Nothing until the summer, because we have a DC doing GCSEs this year.

3 days in France in July to go to an event at the Olympics.
2 weeks in USA in Aug - visiting MIL and then a bit of travelling around.
5 days in Sicily in Oct half-term.
