Where have you been on holiday and thought “wow, that was a waste of my time and money”.

Mine was travelling to a fairly remote tropical island where people were supposed to be so friendly. Unfortunately we found the people we interacted with in the hotels and restaurants to be anything but nice. It piddled down with rain and then we almost got scammed.

I had a fantastic time in Dublin. It's freakin' expensive though!

Dinkiedoo · 28/01/2024 19:20

Cruise to Iceland. Spent most of time at sea as weather so bad. Made the most if our drinks package I can tell you lol

Mother87 · 28/01/2024 19:21

Marrakech - been 3 times, once with stunningly beautiful mixed-race DD30 (I'm an old trout) - no unwanted attention, fabulous culturally & the souks were amazing
Kalkan - we've been going for 15 years with all DC's/elderly parents - beautiful coastline/great restaurants/friendly
Maldives - been 3 times, beautiful

Dublin/Dubai/Malta/Mauritius - No thank you

GenevièveSapha · 28/01/2024 19:27

I'm surprised that other than the 'Rich and Famous' do this anymore... it must be insanely expensive... and with the ridiculous security measures at airports... is it really all worth it... ???

Sometimesharshbutalwaysfair · 28/01/2024 19:28

+1 For Mauritius. High end resorts surrounding what resembles a sprawling township, stray dogs, beaten up abandoned cars and beggars. Greece is indeed better. Don't waste your money.

Mumto2kids86 · 28/01/2024 19:32

Paris and Rome. Both scruffy and overpriced.

Getupandgogogo · 28/01/2024 19:46

Mauritius too.. pushy beach hawkers and sea snakes! Give me Seychelles or Maldives any day!

Really? I loved them both so much.

NewYear24 · 28/01/2024 19:56

Really? I loved them both so much.

Same and I also loved Mauritius, the days out and views are amazing.

@lavagal totally agree ! I'm in Malta now and not impressed

I loved Malta. Tons of sights. The museums are excellent, the Three Cities, Mdina and Rabat are lovely days out. The prehistoric stuff is amazing. We had a lot of great food. There was a broad bean dip and aubergine one with most meals that were delicious and loads of lovely fish and pasta.

I was hoping when you realised your mistake you'd maybe get it right in future @thisisasurvivor.

It's simply wrong and it'd be nice if you'd consider using the correct name now you know.

@IwantKandixxx where about are you? We were near at Paul's bay and it was just cranes and building work everywhere- really crap food as well either English pubs or fast food. We went to a local bar by the harbour and ordered a Maltese platter that came full of chunks of Red Leicester and cheddar cheese 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is really interesting as I went there in the mid 1980s and it was like this . Would have expected them to have finished building now! I am considering visiting Valetta though .

What is this referring to?

jeaux90 · 29/01/2024 22:32

Milan, LA, Barcelona.

Scruffy, smelly dumps.

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/01/2024 07:42

Barcelona was fabulous last summer.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 30/01/2024 07:47

Niagara Falls. Could be really beautiful if they hadn't built a city full of neon signs and fast food joints on top of it.

Brexile · 30/01/2024 07:49

Deathbyathousandcats · 23/01/2024 20:31

So they’d like to think. In reality it’s a cess pit.

You're both right - Paris is a cess pit with oases of high culture. I like it. :)

San Francisco is a dump though, and Moscow is scary.

mitogoshi · 30/01/2024 07:54

@dyspraadhauwtaf63

Vancouver is interesting for a day, Stanley park is great (top tip, rent a bike) but the best things are outside the city - the mountains, or better still go over to Vancouver Island. I've been many times for the weekend when I lived in the Pacific nw ( Vancouver had an M&S back then and all the Brits headed from the USA for our hobnobs and Christmas puddings...) Vancouver island is one of my favourite places in the world and we plan to motorbike round it one day

P0llyP0cket · 30/01/2024 08:14

Marrakesh - scary
Venice - stinky
Pyramids in Giza - was not expecting a KFC next to them
Naples - terrifying

Loved - Bangkok, Berlin, Moscow
