Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool , than complain on Tripadvisor and remove all doubt .

TooOldForThisNonsense · 31/12/2023 11:27

Why was your stay cut short?

You know kids can cope for a few days without a bath.

we used to camp with ours when they were tiny and one of us just took them in the shower with us.

YABU, a grifter if you were looking for a discount, precious, entitled and ridiculous.

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 31/12/2023 11:31

How ridiculous from the op! Did you request a room with a bath? Why do you need to bath the toddler? My sister doesnt even have a bath in her house, she still manages to keep her child clean. Why not shower the two year olds? It would be much quicker.

  1. you booked the room without stating you need a bath
  2. you complained and were offered a solution in the form of a bath for the children
  3. you are so very much stuck to your routine that you couldnt even consider bathing them separately, despite this being a very sensible practical and obvious solution
  4. you cut the holiday short because you want to bath your children together

id assume your anxiety is out of control and you manage day-to-day by controlling every element of your time. And i say out of control as it has resulted in you making the rest of your family leave their holiday. That is extreme.

what did your spouse / partner say when you said you were all leaving?

Islandermummy · 31/12/2023 11:35

When I first read it, I thought perhaps it was adjoining rooms (grandparents and parents both here).

Feel more sympathetic realising that grandparents were taking twins away... that's very nice of them. And not being primary carers for the kiddos probably keen to stick to usual routine.

OP I think you'd be unreasonable to blast on trip advisor: you could always mention though (as you've done here) not to assume family rooms have baths. The offer to rent a baby bath was a bit odd too: if it's an upmarket place I'd expect that to be free (if available). They are not expensive. Also, doubt a toddler would fit in one so probably not a good solution!

snowlady4 · 31/12/2023 11:46

Lesson learned- check before you book! I like a bath but would never presume I'd be in a room with one, I always politely request one! Quite common to get a message back saying they don't have baths in their rooms.
Just shower for a few days. Not a huge deal is it?
Certainly don't cruticise the venue and the staff on trip advisor, they've done nothing wrong!- you didn't book a room with a bath and it looks like they've tried to accomodate you, providing what they do have available!

demonheed · 31/12/2023 11:50

"You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots."

Indeed Confused why can't the kids get washed in the shower?

demonheed · 31/12/2023 11:51

And you cut short your stay because you couldn't wash them in a shower or take up the offer of a baby bath??? Absolutely bizarre, how do you cope with other minor hiccups in life?

Islandermummy · 31/12/2023 11:51

@Salacia ha! we don't have a bath. Used a little baby bath at first. You're not going to fill a massive bath for a newborn anyway.

Now our DD is 18mo. Our shower is not v toddler appropriate (sharp stone-type edge) - so we still use a plastic tub inside the shower so she can splash about safely. When visiting other places with less hazardous fittings she just goes in the shower.

caringcarer · 31/12/2023 11:51

FiveShelties · 31/12/2023 04:31

If you want a bath, then surely that is your responsibility to check there is one. Baths are pretty rare now, much more likely to get a shower in most hotels.

This. You should have checked before booking.

Topseyt123 · 31/12/2023 11:53

What a ridiculous thing to get het up over!! Young children can be showered. Why on earth not? I did it plenty of times when mine were that age.

Just get the shower running nice and pleasantly warm, sit/stand them in there as appropriate and get on with sprinkling them down. What could be easier?

I think hotels are increasingly replacing as many baths as possible with showers/wet rooms now.

I can't believe you cut your stay short over something so minor and inconsequential and have even been thinking about complaining. Bizarre.

2under2in2024 · 31/12/2023 11:54

Yes sorry I agree, on you to check if you need a bath.

We have an inflatable bath that we take to hotels and holiday rentals when they may not have a bath

Cattenberg · 31/12/2023 12:00

I have some sympathy, as I’d never have stayed anywhere without a bath when DD was tiny. She was terrified of showers until she was four or five. I thought this was common?

I can honestly say I always checked the details before booking, though (and had to reject some lovely holiday lets because they didn’t have a bath).

Georgyporky · 31/12/2023 12:06

There's only one idiot in this scenario ..........

Balloonhearts · 31/12/2023 12:12

Most hotels just have showers now, this is completely a non issue. What do you think parents do who live in houses with no bath?

Topseyt123 · 31/12/2023 12:12

I should have added (too late for the edit button now) - hotel staff are not ignorant, nor are they idiots. That is a terrible attitude to have.

They work with what they have available. There may or may not have still been rooms with baths in the building (increasingly not). Nor did you even think to check.

Honestly, requesting a bath in place of a shower is actually very odd. Showers are easier for most people to use. I've been in hotels where the ensuite was a wet room with a seat and grab rails in the shower area for those less able to stand. For many of those people I imagine the old arrangement of a shower hung over a bath (or a bath on its own) being impossible to use.

Of course you can shower children.

Faceache45 · 31/12/2023 12:22

I got a small blow up padding pool and stuck it in the shower. It's not a disaster. As a parent you need to adapt and roll with the punches. I certainly wouldn't have allowed it to ruin my holiday.

DidiAskYouThough · 31/12/2023 13:05

How embarrassing that you want to let rip at a business for you failing to book the things you specifically wanted and expected them to intuit your wants 🥴 and you flounced off home?

jenny1209 · 31/12/2023 13:07

Please do write the review OP, I love unhinged Tripadvisor nutters.

haha! yes- they're always good for a laugh

SapphireSeptember · 31/12/2023 16:36

This is why I like Premier Inn! Nice big baths you can practically swim in. 😁

The last time I stayed in a hotel that wasn't a Premier Inn I requested a bath, and I got one. Happy days! 😊

You don't want to leave a bad review because you don't want to be blacklisted for future stays? Why on earth would you want to stay at a place where such idiots dare to work?

You ABMassivelyU for calling other people idiots when the problem is that you clearly know bob-all about booking a hotel room......and even more so for expecting an apology from the idiots for your own balls up.

Zerosleep · 01/01/2024 17:57

I would fully expect to be given a room with a bath and over the bath shower. Who gives a parent with young kids a room with just a shower, that’s just fucking stupid and ignorant. Sorry OP, customer service going downhill big time.

restingbitchface30 · 01/01/2024 18:05

It’s your responsibility to check there’s a bath. I’ve been away a few times with my 17mo twins and twice there’s only been a shower. I chalked it up to my own stupidity and just gave them a really quick sit down shower.

linsey2581 · 01/01/2024 18:09

lots of hotels now only have showers instead of baths mainly for health and safety. My son is autistic and epileptic. and god god god forbid he had a seizure it would be hellish to try and get him out of the bath (he’s 21, 6ft 2 but like a beanpole). We have unfortunately had to to this before and it’s a nightmare.
This is on you I’m afraid.

celticprincess · 01/01/2024 18:12

It’s interesting most people are saying baths are rare. Most places I stay have a bath with shower over it. When we go with my mother who is disabled and needs a shower to walk into a she can’t climb into a bath we have al sorts of issues.
