Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

Was the idiot you OP? 🤣 nothing wrong with 2 year olds in the shower.

Barney60 · 31/12/2023 10:52

I am also a bath person as is my grandson aged 2 who loves a bath dislikes a shower, so i understand exactly what your saying, but it really is up to you to specify a bath when booking.

DarkDarkNight · 31/12/2023 10:53

You have a really bad attitude. You do realise it’s not a human allocating rooms on a case by case basis, it will be an automatic process.

You should have checked and really it’s not the end of the world. How long was your stay? If only a short stay a bath isn’t really necessary. You could have used the sink to give them a quick wash. If they can stand they could have had a shower.

Zanatdy · 31/12/2023 10:54

you should have requested a bath if that important. Many hotels have shower only now. Why can’t you shower them? When mine were little and in a caravan shower I blocked the plug with a bit of tissue and then splashed around in the shower base. It was fine for a few nights

zingally · 31/12/2023 10:56

As a long-time hotel-stayer, I'd say that baths are becoming more and more unusual. Especially in new-build hotels.

I certainly wouldn't assume these days that hotel rooms come with baths.

This is your fault for not checking this when booking.

CJsGoldfish · 31/12/2023 10:57

YABU
You didn't check whether there would be a bath yet THEY were the idiots? 🙄
And now you want to continue your tantrum by complaining on Trip Advisor? Wow.
I've bathed my kids in sinks and showers more often than baths when away and it wouldn't occur to me to assume ANY room has a bath. I'd certainly check first if it was important to me 🤷‍♀️

villamariavintrapp · 31/12/2023 10:58

Yes, if a bath is so crucial to you that you can't stay in a hotel without it then you need to specify that at booking.

diddl · 31/12/2023 10:58

Idiots for not guessing that you wanted a bath for your under 2s?

Wow!

I do agree that the offer to rent a baby bath was bad.

Willmafrockfit · 31/12/2023 10:59

Redmat · 31/12/2023 10:24

This will blow your mind op some people go camping with under twos.

agree

Dibbydoos · 31/12/2023 10:59

Baths are disgustingly dirty ways of getting clean.

We put babies in baths so we can safely wash them, but as soon as thry can stand, showers are much cleaner! Having said that, how big was the sink? Could you have used that?

Maybe invest £15 in a collapsible bath....

But yes you're right - checking the facilities is a must and I do hate that using a bath was chargeable, wtf!

SleepingStandingUp · 31/12/2023 11:00

You cut a trip short rather than just either wash them in the basin or shower them??

LuluBlakey1 · 31/12/2023 11:01

Ours loved showers from being about 8 months old. DH or I just took them in with us, showered them and handed them out to the other one or, if they were big enough, sat them on the shower floor. DS1 used to giggle away at the shower.

SmallestInTheClass · 31/12/2023 11:02

I think it's more unusual to have a bath in a hotel or holiday apartment. Our kids were both 'trained' to shower with us from about 1 year old to help with this. Get a shower hat so hair doesn't get wet. Or if you are desperate for a bath, get a mini inflatable paddling pool and fill it from the shower hose.

rookiemere · 31/12/2023 11:05

Rereading the OP - as that's all we have to go on - I suspect this is a high end hotel that OP goes to frequently and is used to fawning attention.

It is kind of weird that they charged for the hire of the baby bath and either means it is a cheaper establishment where it's common place to charge for extras, or - more likely- it's an adult based hotel that doesn't really want to encourage families.

Either way to cut a trip short because you're too outraged to pay for the hire of a baby bath - I mean how much can it be? - is daft.

User236792 · 31/12/2023 11:06

You cut short your holiday because there was a shower rather than a bath? 😆

Islandermummy · 31/12/2023 11:12

No, we'd only expect a bath if it's stated on the room description. Rooms with baths are often more expensive so are an extra feature you have to select.

We've often bathed our DD in a sink. Toddlers can also wash in a shower if it's big enough (with mum or dad in as well). We've done this recently with our 18 month old.

Caszekey · 31/12/2023 11:15

Op is Granny not Mommy, which makes it even more a shame that you've cut short a trip away with them (and god knows parents of twins need every break they can get 🤣) so it seems such a shame to have chosen to ruin it like this.

even if physically you couldn't manage a shower, they surely have have managed with a wash down?

You have children not babies.

I would hate a bath in a hotel, most don’t have them anymore. Yabvu.

And to call people idiots over this? The only idiot is you, if there is one, for not checking.

Bracksonsboss · 31/12/2023 11:18

YABU. It’s no big deal and you should have checked if you wanted a bath.

idontlikealdi · 31/12/2023 11:21

Massive overreaction op. Can't you have just washed them in the shower?

wronginalltherightways · 31/12/2023 11:21

Learn to travel with one of those big flexi colourful 'buckets' with handles ... they double as baths in the shower for little ones.

Ask me how I know 😂

Alwayswonderedwhy · 31/12/2023 11:24

This wasn't something that bothered me when mine were little. If you're the only adult in the room leave one of them in the cot for 5 mins while you give the other one a quick shower.
