Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Nannasoo · 31/12/2023 04:15

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

The hotel is BU to charge extra for providing a baby bath. This should be complementary IMO. It is a lump of moulded plastic that doesn't really suffer wear and tear and should be within the same category of freely-provided equipment as high chairs. However, a toddler isn't going to fit into one anyway, so it isn't relevant in your situation.

I'd be charging OP for the hire of it if she came at me with the same attitude she's shown on here, unless she specifically requested a bath or the description of the room on booking detailed a bath and she didn't get it - so she didn't get what she booked or wasn't told that it wasn't available.

However be reasonable and don't try and blame me for your own idiocy then I'll bend over backwards to try and help.

Christmasisspecial · 31/12/2023 10:01

This is ridiculous - especially if you flounced home early, spoiling the experience for you all. Have you no problem solving/making the best of it skills? Or sense of humour?

Reddog1 · 31/12/2023 10:07

Another thread that will probably be deleted because it hasn’t gone the OP’s way 😁

fromhellsheartistabatthee · 31/12/2023 10:11

I stay in a lot of hotels and rarely see a bath.

ZenNudist · 31/12/2023 10:13

I'd assume no bath unless stated. Not a problem with a baby to shower them. Take them in with you and use a sponge. Certainly not worthy of bad review.

369damnshesfine · 31/12/2023 10:14

Did you specifically ask for a room with a bath?

If not YABU.

You won’t be the only one staying with kids, so you need to stop acting so entitled and rude.

Most people don’t have baths in their own homes, let alone in cheap hotels.

A blow up paddling pool is a good alternative to use as a bath when there’s only a shower available.

Redmat · 31/12/2023 10:24

This will blow your mind op some people go camping with under twos.

Cas112 · 31/12/2023 10:26

A lot of hotels just offer showers and not baths, you should no this. I've never expected a bath unless requested one beforehand and they have confirmed

tescocreditcard · 31/12/2023 10:27

It's your mistake.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 31/12/2023 10:28

I agree that if a bath was essential (it’s not), you should have checked. My one year old hated showers so I bathed him in a little inflatable boat on holidays, he loved it.

thinkfast · 31/12/2023 10:30

Why would you cut your trip short or expect a discount over this? I agree charging for a baby bath is not on, but most hotels have showers, not baths. Babies and toddlers can shower too and don't have to wash every day...

HMW1906 · 31/12/2023 10:31

Just take the twins in the shower with you separately, leave the other in the travel cot. It’s not rocket science!

We went on holiday in the summer with a just 2 year old and a 3 month old. One of us would go in the shower with a child whilst the other waited with a towel to take the wet child, the other child would wait in the travel cot then we’d swap. Easy! If you can’t work that out I’m wondering if you should really be travelling at all!

Halfemptyhalfling · 31/12/2023 10:31

I used to bath them in the basin in these circumstances which was actually easier than bending over a baby bath

NigelHarmansNewWife · 31/12/2023 10:31

Looking at the OP's username she's grandma who was already stressed about the thought and logistics of taking twin babies away without mum and dad. If she comes back to the thread I'll eat my hat!

Fullofxmascbeer · 31/12/2023 10:33

😀

I think that’s the op told!

adorablecat · 31/12/2023 10:36

You are assuming that your preference for a bath with small children is universal, rather than specific to you, and that everyone ought to know about it.

Chewbecca · 31/12/2023 10:37

No, I would not assume there would be a bath in a family room.
Calling them idiots is unfair.
Many toddlers happily take showers.

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 31/12/2023 10:38

I realise you may be knackered looking after twins, but I think the ignorance may be on your part for not checking when booking. Most places nowadays have a shower rather than bath as they take up less space. Just pop them in the shower tray one at a time with a plastic cup or something to play with - job done!

SemperIdem · 31/12/2023 10:38

Yabu and weird

ImFloatingInAMostPeculiarWay · 31/12/2023 10:38

Nope, no idea why you would assume you'd have a bath. Definitely something you would need to check before booking

Ah. Well, people who go looking for problems generally have no difficulty in finding some.

Delassalle · 31/12/2023 10:41

I'm of the age where people didn't bathe every week and baths were for a Friday night. In between baths you had a 'dicky bum wash' which comprised of standing at the sink and washing your face, hands, armpits, underneath and bottom and your feet! Strip was was another term although when you're a child, 'Dicky bum wash' was funnier to say!

HuckleberryBlackcurrant · 31/12/2023 10:45

We don't have a bath at our house. I guess we must never wash our kids.....oh wait, we just hold them in the shower and rinse them off?!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 31/12/2023 10:46

CuriousGeorge80 · 31/12/2023 04:43

Was it outside the UK? If so, it’s very common to not have a bath in a hotel room.

It's common in the UK too.

Coolhwip · 31/12/2023 10:46

Let rip on the hotel for your mistake? Get a grip.

You always need to check.

My mum is disabled and can’t climb into a bath so we always ask for an accessible bathroom.

I think it’s quite arrogant to assume the hotel will know your needs.
