DD's suitcase lost at Greek airport - DEVASTATED!!

Kiki105 · 20/08/2023 12:37

My 19 year old DD has just arrived in Zante with 2 friends for their first girly holiday. Her friends have collected their suitcases but DD's suitcase didn't show or maybe someone collected it by mistake. She's reported it to the TUI rep and is now on the coach travelling to the hotel. She's absolutely distraught and in tears. Does anyone have any experience of this happening to them and the likelihood of her case being found within a short time. She has got absolutely nothing else on her other than the leggings and hoodie she travelled in. I'm feeling so stressed and helpless right now.

OP posts:

Dammit! That's meant to say "hope she's OK Op!"

Pluffe · 20/08/2023 13:39

Happened to me. I didn’t get it back until 4 days later. It was shit, but I bought a bikini and some shorts from a touristy shop and got on with it. Surely she can borrow clothes from friends?

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/08/2023 13:39

Spare knickers and bikini in the carry on in future!

PollyThePixie · 20/08/2023 13:39

At 19 it’s okay to be devastated about your suitcase going missing.

OP, I hope she gets it back soon.

gamerchick · 20/08/2023 13:40

Why are people being such bellends? Hmm absolutely no need for some of these replies like.

Dear me, if she’s this dramatic is she mature enough to be on holiday by herself!?

Another nasty piece of work 🙄

Thewizardbinbag · 20/08/2023 13:42

You’re her mum. Didn’t you teach her to pack stuff in her carry on for emergencies like this, and also if 3 people are travelling then split your clothes a third into each case, so if cases go missing, you all at least have some stuff.

I travelled loads as a child with my parents and this was drummed into me every few months when we were flying out again. I thought it was normal. Maybe it isn’t.

eurochick · 20/08/2023 13:12

Her friends will have inevitably taken twice as many clothes as they need. Hopefully they can lend some bits until the case is found.

This is probably very true Grin hopefully they are similar sizes

Wishimaywishimight · 20/08/2023 13:42

Just because they are friends / similar ages doesn't mean they are the same size - borrowing clothes may not be an option.

I'm in my 50s and always feel a little worried this will happen as I waot at the luggage carousel. I would hate to lose my clothes, summer sandals, beach bag, sunhat etc. Buying cheap replacements in a beach resort would't make it better.

Apart from clothes, there's toiletries, sun lotions & aftersun, contact lens solutions, hair products (expensive; Nioxin), hairdryer (with diffuser), underwear, make up, perfume, (costume) jewellery etc.

I have every sympathy OP, I hope the bag turns up soon.

It isnt with teenage girls, they are not going to do that.

Well i've learned 2 things today. 1. That some posters here are absolute nasty pieces of work and 2. Of the existence of something called an Airtag! I'm off to to buy one!

Oh this is premium Mumsnet, just premium! I'm literally shaking! I've snorted out my coffee, spat all over my keyboard, snapped and farted and woken up the dog etc. Can we nominate this quote alone for classics?

Delayed baggage is in the ‘shit happens’ category, so she just needs to keep it in perspective & make do until it turns up, which it will, providing its bag tag is still attached to it. The last time it happened to me, it was delivered in 48 hours.

Here’s what she need to do:
1, Make sure she has reported it to the airline, keep record of the report and make absolutely sure he keeps her own bag tag which identifies her as its owner in a safe place.
2, First stop is to a supermarket to buy a toothbrush, basic toiletries, sun cream and a pack of knickers.
3, Next stop, buy a cheap bikini & a pair of flip flops. Everything else she can presumably borrow from her mates.
4, Get on with her holiday and enjoy herself until her bag turns up. Which it will.
5, Learn from this and always, always pack clean undies, swimwear, toiletries & an outfit in your hand luggage.

I don’t know any girls who spend ages planning hair, make up and outfits.

Guess you don’t many typical teens going on a girls holiday then 😂god MN has such an issue with women enjoying makeup and fashion

HorseyMel · 20/08/2023 13:45

At first, I thought DD was going to be 6 and her favourite teddy had gone missing.

She is 19 and her clothes have gone AWOL. She'll manage to sort it out and get over it. I'd leave her to deal with it.

usernother · 20/08/2023 13:45

Yes. Mine was delivered 2 days later.

Fizbosshoes · 20/08/2023 13:45

For all the people who pack everything they need in hand luggage, the size easy jet let's you take on free is pretty tiny. I did end up not wearing 75% of my clothes but even minimal clothes, toiletries (some of which may have exceeded 100ml) contact lenses, make up, 1 pair of shoes and a beach towel would prob not have fitted in my rucksack

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/08/2023 13:46

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 20/08/2023 12:42

I can imagine a 19 year old being devastated about this. She is on a girls holiday with all the plans they will have made of clubbing and going to the beach etc..... clothes are a big deal to teens.

This happened to the daughter of a friend of mine. She bought a cheap bikini and a sarong and, I think, her bag turned up the next day.

LoverofGreen · 20/08/2023 13:47

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 20/08/2023 13:06

Christ, this site and the bitter, nasty creatures that inhabit it get worse every day.

Aye, she’s devastated. OP could have said very upset and not gotten this many snarky, self indulgent replies.

Can the poor lass not be upset because other atrocities happen in the world? Can the poor lass also not feeling initially upset but also learn “vAlUaBLe LiFe LeSsOnS” after the initial upset has wore off?

God the policing of feelings on this site is vomit inducing.

Isn’t it just!

usernother · 20/08/2023 13:47

When she gets extra clothes save the receipts. I was able to claim back from the tour company. Didn't have to go through travel insurance. Tell her to see her rep at hotel.

Mangotango39 · 20/08/2023 13:47

God people are horrible on this thread. This would upset me as an adult let alone a teen.

you can't assume she can share with friends. I was always bigger then friends and could not share. I also likely wouldn't have fit my boobs in the tacky shops likely to be on this nearby strip!

There could be all sorts in there including medication.
It's really not nice and causes stress on a holiday she likely really looked forward to/saved for !

Mirabai · 20/08/2023 13:49

Ninacampbelltiled · 20/08/2023 12:41

Devastated? C'mon

This happened to a friend of mine when we went on a trip - she lost all her favourite clothes, expensive makeup, perfume. It never showed up. She was genuinely devastated. It’s made me very neurotic about luggage.

Plus it's even more people taking friggin huge small cases on board, hogging the overhead storage space and then almost decapitating the poor bugger sitting underneath every time they need to get to it mid flight and take their random crap out Confused

Alas I'm starting to think, if you can't beat'em ...

Cucucucu · 20/08/2023 13:51

remind her travel insurance will
cover the cost and she needs to keep any receipt of new items . It’s pot luck if it’s found fast or not , tell her to keep calling them

PurpleChrayne · 20/08/2023 12:42

She needs to stop being such a wet-wipe drama queen, quite frankly. The reps will have dealt with this sort of thing countless times. She can borrow off her mates, and pick up some cheap stuff from local shops.

Wow how nasty are you?!
