DD's suitcase lost at Greek airport - DEVASTATED!!

Kiki105 · 20/08/2023 12:37

My 19 year old DD has just arrived in Zante with 2 friends for their first girly holiday. Her friends have collected their suitcases but DD's suitcase didn't show or maybe someone collected it by mistake. She's reported it to the TUI rep and is now on the coach travelling to the hotel. She's absolutely distraught and in tears. Does anyone have any experience of this happening to them and the likelihood of her case being found within a short time. She has got absolutely nothing else on her other than the leggings and hoodie she travelled in. I'm feeling so stressed and helpless right now.

I can understand a 19 year old being upset (still not devastated) bBut it’s the job of the OP , as an older adult, to be sensible, give her good advice and calm her down, not join in with the OTT reaction.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's experience. We had this last year in Spain and I'm afraid the case only turned up a month after we got home.

In case this is what happens to your daughter, just to say we stupidly claimed for replacement clothes on our insurance, not realising there was a £100 cap! I suspect would have been better off going via the airline.

Hope it turns up soon.

3 bikinis is a start! I suppose there is a big opportunity for shopping if she wants it - but by the sounds of it at least she can relax by the pool and doesn't need multiple layers.
As others have said, ensure she keeps all receipts.

Calibrachoa · 22/08/2023 08:19

Oh no what a pain op that she still doesn't have it.

Motherofasmallpony · 22/08/2023 09:19

Dear OP I haven’t read all the PP posts but I have got the gist from reading yours and felt so bad for you, I really wanted to say something.
I couldn’t even see ‘devastated’ in your post just ‘distraught’ from your poor daughter which I think most 19 year old girls would feel and ‘helpless’ from you which is exactly how I and most mums would feel. I really would.
I completely agree; a teenage girls possessions, clothes, makeup etc. are a really important thing and I can imagine this has really impacted the start of her holiday.
Good to see her friends have rallied around and keeping fingers crossed for her receiving her suitcase today. Meanwhile it sounds as though are doing everything you can do from your end.
Ignore the negative and nasty comments: I guess it just depends on what kind of parent (and dare I say person) you are! You sound like a very caring mum. Others not so.
Let us know when she gets it back X

@Motherofasmallpony It's in CAPITAL LETTERS with exclamation marks in the title.

Wouldn't it be the airport?

No, it’s the airline’s responsibility as your contract is with them. Their contract is with baggage handlers/ airport, and they need to deal with that side of it.

Donsyb · 22/08/2023 10:46

Also for future travels, I would recommend air tags. They’re brilliant to track your bags if they go missing.

Kiki105 · 22/08/2023 13:36

@Donsyb if we've learnt anything from this experience it is AirTags are a must. It's the not knowing that is driving her crazy now.

@Motherofasmallpony thank you so much for your understanding.
I posted in haste for advice on here and the backlash for using one wrong word in the title of my post has been cruel.
I know I've done my best in supporting dd during this unfortunate situation and she is coping amazingly now, making the best out of a bad situation. She's on her way to the airport as I type in the hope of speaking with a member of staff face to face and being reunited with her case if it's even there.
