DD's suitcase lost at Greek airport - DEVASTATED!!

Kiki105 · 20/08/2023 12:37

My 19 year old DD has just arrived in Zante with 2 friends for their first girly holiday. Her friends have collected their suitcases but DD's suitcase didn't show or maybe someone collected it by mistake. She's reported it to the TUI rep and is now on the coach travelling to the hotel. She's absolutely distraught and in tears. Does anyone have any experience of this happening to them and the likelihood of her case being found within a short time. She has got absolutely nothing else on her other than the leggings and hoodie she travelled in. I'm feeling so stressed and helpless right now.

I had this happen once when travelling to the US. Suitcase was delivered to our hotel overnight.

Zonder · 20/08/2023 12:40

Can she share her friends clothes and things until it is found?

Clefable · 20/08/2023 12:41

That's a pain but chances are it will turn up in next 24 hours or so. If she's with two friends, can she borrow some bits to get her through till it turns up? I appreciate it's upsetting but it would be a shame to ruin her holiday so it's all about perspective!

Devastated? C'mon

TheCrystalPalace · 20/08/2023 12:42

Make sure that she gets receipts for any essentials she buys in the meantime. She will need them for any insurance claim she makes.

PollyAmour · 20/08/2023 12:42

It will be located and delivered to her hotel within 24 hours. Can she borrow stuff from her friends in the meantime? Or buy a cheap bikini and sundress for now?

Don’t worry, mislaid luggage happens a lot and is almost always swiftly resolved.

I can imagine a 19 year old being devastated about this. She is on a girls holiday with all the plans they will have made of clubbing and going to the beach etc..... clothes are a big deal to teens.

PurpleChrayne · 20/08/2023 12:42

She needs to stop being such a wet-wipe drama queen, quite frankly. The reps will have dealt with this sort of thing countless times. She can borrow off her mates, and pick up some cheap stuff from local shops.

That's reassuring, I so hope she has the same luck.

Get a grip. She can borrow friends stuff or it’s cheap enough to pick up a few things in resort. It is likely to turn up and if it doesn’t, then she is insured right ?

Clymene · 20/08/2023 12:43

I can understand her being devastated but you? Come on. She can buy stuff tomorrow if she needs to. I presume she has insurance.

Her case will most likely show up.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 20/08/2023 12:43

I’ve had this happen a lot. Usually arrives within the day. The important thing is that your DD doesn’t let it ruin her holiday! She needs to find out if TUI offer anything cash wise and what her insurance allowance is and then go and buy the essentials/borrow the rest from her friends.

It’s just stuff. It will more than likely turn up soon. Calm her down and hopefully she can enjoy her holiday.

She's learned a valuable lesson - always pack some essentials in your carry on!

sadaboutmycat · 20/08/2023 12:44

Don't people realise that there is always a risk of this? Devastated is sheer hyperbole. Upset I could understand but goodness me first world problems and all that!

Frenchfancy · 20/08/2023 12:45

Basic rule of travelling is to have a change of clothes and a swimming costume in hand luggage because this is extremely common. It will probably turn up and in the meantime she can borrow off her friends.

No-one is dead or hurt and she isn't being evacuated because the island is on fire.

Tell her to have a nice holiday then get on with your own life.

ZolaBudd · 20/08/2023 12:45

If she’s in holiday as an adult she can sort it out

WandaWonder · 20/08/2023 12:45

Annoyed and her feeling inconvenienced sure devastated?

TenOhSeven · 20/08/2023 12:46

Devastated. Dear Lord.

PinkPondQueen · 20/08/2023 12:47

I feel for her. How long is she away for and who did she fly with? As someone has pointed out hopefully it will get delivered to the hotel in a day or 2! This happened to me many years ago on a trip to Canada and we didn't get the case back until we returned to Heathrow. It was horrific as the majority of our spending money went on replacing expensive things like hiking boots and waterproofs. Can she borrow clothes & toiletries from her pals in the meantime? Poor girl 😕

modgepodge · 20/08/2023 12:47

Happened to me, also in a Greek airport. Suitcase was delivered about 24 hours later.

since then, we always pack a few essentials in each other’s suitcases and/or a few bits in carry on luggage.

I was very upset when it happened to me, I can imagine a teenager being very upset. I bought a swimsuit at the resort, and a few other bits. I think they refused to refund me though as they said they expected everyone to carry enough for the first 24 hours with them!

wutheringkites · 20/08/2023 12:47

You need to calm down. Your 19 year old is experiencing a disappointing inconvenience and you feel helpless?

This! I'm surprised that she hadn't got at least one outfit in her carry on. I doubt she'll make that mistake again.

Cheeseandlobster · 20/08/2023 12:48

I know it's too late for this trip but I would always advise people to bring essentials in hand luggage too so a spare bikini, underwear, dress etc. Tui allow 10k hand luggage which would accommodate all these spares.

For now though check the insurance. Does she have delayed baggage cover? That usually allows a small daily allowance to purchase essential items. Make sure she keeps her receipts. She will need a property irregularity form to claim this which I am assuming they will have given her at the airport. And I would second sharing her friends clothes n toiletries for now until her suitcase hopefully arrives
