How much was your holiday?

We're looking at booking a last minute holiday. Like going on Monday! But prices seem to still be sky high.
If you've booked/ gone on holiday in the summer holidays, 4/5 star all inclusive for a week somewhere in Europe this year, how much did you pay? Just wondering whether prices have changed compared to people that booked a while ago. 2 adults, 1 child.

@Crikeyalmighty - we don’t ever go all inclusive either, but I can 100% it being cheaper in many places. Ie where we live is expensive, for 2 adults and one child with drinks but no alcohol its always around €100 for dinner out now. So a 2 week holiday its 14 x100 - €1400 extra just for dinner, and the other meals ontop

Ohmylovejune · 29/07/2023 16:07

We price up AI not necessarily to use it to it's full extent..we've once upgraded on booking for £7pppn extra (4 star.at Christmas) and more recently £20 pppn (5 star with a la carte meal included). At the latter, we didn't always have lunch as I wasn't hungry 12 - 2 after such a big breakfast and sometime we went out. But coffees during the day, a bottle of wine for the evening meal, a few cocktails, after dinner drinks and two bottles of water a day were enough to make it worth having upgraded plus we had a beautiful a la carte meal one night. We found out when we were there that our upgrade price was a half price deal so if it had been double we wouldn't have bought it.

About 13k euro . Two days in Paris, 5 days 5 star all inclusive in Greece followed by a week in a fab Greek villa.
Still can't quite believe how much it cost . Always do everything myself as we have 5 teens and it works out cheaper .
Holidays have become insanely expensive.

gingercat02 · 29/07/2023 16:27

Just over £5k Gran Canaria, Monday afternoon. 4* AI for 3 of us. 10 nights. Booked last Tuesday as Rhodes went tits up. Should have flown tonight

Newshoess · 29/07/2023 16:31

£1,200 1A 1C 9 nights all-inclusive in Turkey. Booked last year. Booked for next year 11 nights in Egypt 1A 1C £2,000 May half term 2024.

Lordofmyflies · 29/07/2023 17:22

Just under £12,000 for 2 weeks in Croatia for 4. Three different 5* hotels, travelling down the coast. We had food costs on top. Holidays are way more expensive since 2020

AccidentallySuckedTheStrippersDick · 29/07/2023 17:26

Two adults and a teenager. Kos , half board £1200 all in plus £340 car hire ( our choice, transfers were £15 each)

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/07/2023 17:28

I mean 5* hotels will up the price a lot!

Our holidays abroad tend to be out and about a lot so we go for fairly basic hotels. The one we had in France was 2* but it was fine for our needs - very central, large room, clean, friendly owners, ensuite bathroom (the bathroom was a little tired and old fashioned but worked fine).

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 29/07/2023 17:36

We booked a holiday for July 2024 in January this year. 2 adults, 3 tweens, AI 4* to Tenerife. Cost £6300.

Just looked now and the same holiday is more than a thousand pounds pricier!

Last minute used to be cheaper, but I'm not sure that's the case anymore. I think now it's get in early.

BRIGHT0NANDHOVE · 29/07/2023 17:37

Yeah I've never been AI in my life. Not my idea of fun, but each to their own

hby9628 · 29/07/2023 18:08

Have you looked at Tui last minute deals? I was mooching on there a week or so ago and they seemed to have some decent offers.
Maybe look at flights from Scotland if you could go from there as their schools are back before our.

TizerorFizz · 29/07/2023 20:04

Last minute hasn’t been cheaper since airlines went into active pricing. Few seats left equals high price, not discounted price. They try to match flights closely to demand so empty seats are not sold off at the last minute. Hotels ditto.

My DC were great with food. We went AI once. Never again. So many more characterful places to stay.

MissRoo1982 · 29/07/2023 20:15

I paid £400 for myself in August for 4 days in Copenhagen this summer. Inc flight and hotel and breakfast. Hotel is 3 stars looks clean enough and is in centre. I booked this back in February. I also paid £650 for another 4 day hiking trip in August with hotel flights and 2 meals included every day. Plus guide.
I tend to book early and sometimes I’m amazed at how much all inclusives costs from what I read on here with people spending thousands.

I do think if you source your own holiday eg paying for flights and choosing hotel plus booking early it would be less expensive than all inclusive ( although I get why families do them).

I looked at a holidays through a Meetup group and it’s often a thousand pounds for Europe for 4 days because it’s through a company when I think I could get that for half the price if I did it myself.

Bankholnightmare · 29/07/2023 20:40

We have booked mexico last week as rhodes went tits up. 5star 1 week AL 2 adults and. 12 years old 2.9k, it was 45% off from tui. Price now 1k more on the website

Sotiredmjmmy · 29/07/2023 20:55

BRIGHT0NANDHOVE · 29/07/2023 17:37

Yeah I've never been AI in my life. Not my idea of fun, but each to their own

You have no reference point to comment at all then, like saying you don’t like mayonnaise so stick with salad cream when you’ve never tried it.

Not saying you should try it unless you want to, but AI is a very broad category, not all AI are equal at all they vary dramatically. For example I’ve done AI in the 5 Maldives and Mexico, both amazing and don’t feel “AI” other than no bill at checkout, but also 3 AI typical Brit intense very average/naff hotel Canary Islands and everything in between - absolutely no comparison and picked each time for differing reasons

Newshoess · 29/07/2023 20:59

@Sotiredmjmmy absolutely agree. I think its clear that some must not have tried Mexico or the Carribean AL unless you have a huge huge budget the majority of people go AL. You can also go half board... even if you are AL sometimes it's cheaper almost. You can venture out and eat out still never understood these comments..about hating AL hotels.

Katypp · 29/07/2023 21:04

my eyes are watering at these prices! We've booked a villa for next August in Majorca for £1400 for 8 nights. Sleeps 6 but there will only be five of us. Expect flights be be about £300 each return, so another £1500, plus about £500 for car hire. So £3400 but fir that we have loads of our own space, our own pool and our own transport. I am always amazed that people regard villas as expensive - we have always found them a cheaper option.

troppibambini6 · 29/07/2023 21:07

The prices are definitely crazy. We went to Turkey last year at an amazing 5 star AI it's was £6500 for two adults and four children.
I looked for next year on the same week (May half term) we would only be taking 3 kids this time and it was £8,500! Two grand more with one less child.... Ridiculous!

Crikeyalmighty · 29/07/2023 21:49

@Katypp I just looked on James villas out of interest and some very nice villas in August on their last minute offers for last week of August - lovely one in playa Blanca, lanzarote was£829 for 2 adults and 2 kids- so even factoring in august flights (if you can get them) would be around £2500 with private pool. That's an awful lot of meals out and drinks you can have to get it up to even £4.5k and itsAugust!!!

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/07/2023 22:13

I can see why AI works for families. For us the main joy of a holiday is eating and drinking in different local bars and restaurants.

Also am not keen on having stuff organised for me - I even get a bit anxious when breakfast is included in the hotel price.

Dibblydoodahdah · 29/07/2023 22:20

£3500 for 2 adults and 2 children 5 star in Gran Canaria. Bed and breakfast as we don’t eat or drink enough to make AI value for money. That’s for a two bedroom suite and was the best deal I could find. Booked in January though.

Tapasgoofy · 29/07/2023 22:25

2.8k for 10 nights In Spain in a 4* hotel with bed & breakfast, flights & transfers included for 2 adults/2 kids.

Here now.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 29/07/2023 10:15

Went to Corfu with Jet2 last week after booking it a few days before we left.

3 star half board £600pp

The hotel pool area was fancier and more relaxing than any 5 star all inclusive resort I've stayed in and the food was much better too. No early morning scramble for a sun bed either!

Worked out cheaper than all inc even with paying for lunch and drinks.

Can I ask the name of the hotel please?

Toddlerteaplease · 29/07/2023 22:34

Around £800 but a busman's holiday as it was a pilgrimage to Lourdes and that was the subsidised rate! Far more of you don't go as a helper.

colouringindoors · 29/07/2023 22:35

£280 for a pitch at lovely campsite in Cornwall. I'm clearly in the wrong job.
