How much was your holiday?

We're looking at booking a last minute holiday. Like going on Monday! But prices seem to still be sky high.
If you've booked/ gone on holiday in the summer holidays, 4/5 star all inclusive for a week somewhere in Europe this year, how much did you pay? Just wondering whether prices have changed compared to people that booked a while ago. 2 adults, 1 child.

€2400 for 2 adults and 1 child. That’s half board and 6 nights. No flights included as we will drive

Justonemoreepisode · 29/07/2023 06:32

Booked a year ahead - 2 weeks 4* all inclusive, 3 adults/1child (older children) in 2 conjoined rooms was £5,5k. Looked in May time and it had gone up to £7k. Same holiday for next year is almost £8k!!!
prices are crazy.

Sfex · 29/07/2023 06:50

We went to Tenerife in May and paid £3.3k for 2 adults (plus 10m old DC who was free). 5* AI.
We’re also going to Greece in September, again 5* AI and that was £3.9k. Booked in November last year, same holiday to book now is £10k 🤯. The prices are crazy this year - we did the same hotel in Tenerife 2 years ago, same week and it was almost half the price!

FfeminyddCymraeg · 29/07/2023 07:38

We paid £3k for 2 weeks in Turkey over the summer holidays, 2 adults and 2 older kids. 2 apartments, bed and breakfast.

We booked everything separately but it’s about the same as last year.

Lovelynames123 · 29/07/2023 07:48

Booked last year for 9 nights in Turkey for 2 adults, 3 kids for what seemed like a bargain £3800 for 5* AI. Reading reviews in April we decided to change hotel, going on Tuesday and have now paid £5200 but feeling much happier about the new hotel.

There just aren't the deas there once was! Pre covid I'd paid £1200 for 2 kids 2 adults, and even last year got a last minute for may half term for 1600 4* AI.

If you're searching the same sites make sure to clear your cache, or use a different device. There are also loads of independent travel agents on fb who will search for you, one I follow is putting last minute deals up which are less than 2k for 2 adults 1 child, but probably the lower end accommodation

JuneOsborne · 29/07/2023 07:55

We've pushed the boat out.

6 of us. 11 nights in a villa with pools, aircon, games room, plenty of bathrooms, all the gizmos: £3.5k. Flights (nice times, best flights available from our local airport.) £500 each, including additional luggage and insurance. We'll hire a car circa £800.

We booked in April.
I don't think that's too bad.

janeyredlion · 29/07/2023 08:04

Where are you flying from op? My sister has just booked to go to turkey for a week on Monday, 4 star hotel £2k including luggage and transfers. They also have one child

gogomoto · 29/07/2023 08:22

Just paid £1300 ai in Morocco for 2 but term time (they do grow up eventually Grin)

When my kids were school aged I booked ferries many months ahead then gradually booked hotels for road trips over the year.

Lykia · 29/07/2023 08:42

If you're tied to school holiday and want something half decent budget between £1 - 1.5k per person and you won't be too shocked.

NorthernGirlie · 29/07/2023 08:44

We're in Turkey now, 5 star AI for us and 12 year old ds for 3 weeks was £6230

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/07/2023 10:06

We don't do packages but our most recent holiday (for two adults) was ten days in the South of France in early July. We spent about £650 on hotels, £500 on transport (4 x Eurostar plus TGV tickets and a couple of internal train connections ) and then a little over £1200 on food, drinks, trips out and other expenses.

StillWantingADog · 29/07/2023 10:11

Some nuts prices on here but others have clearly got good deals

i’ve paid £1k for four nights in an air bnb on the beach in northuberland. The Airbnb looks nice and we know northumberland is lovely but the weather forecast is so rubbish I am feeling very cross.

(we did have a very sunny and cheapish week in the Netherlands in June- cost about £2500- so not feeling too hard done by).

StillWantingADog · 29/07/2023 10:12

I have heard of very good deals to Rhodes going imminently, and the weather is much less hot now.
probably the best chance of a good deal this summer.

BoobyDazzler · 29/07/2023 10:13

14k but we were away for a month - Thailand 3 adults 1 teenager.

Short haul holidays seems incredibly expensive noverdays. I remember going to Tunisia for £109 for a week all inclusive back in the day 😳

AngelsWithSilverWings · 29/07/2023 10:15

Went to Corfu with Jet2 last week after booking it a few days before we left.

3 star half board £600pp

The hotel pool area was fancier and more relaxing than any 5 star all inclusive resort I've stayed in and the food was much better too. No early morning scramble for a sun bed either!

Worked out cheaper than all inc even with paying for lunch and drinks.

xyz111 · 29/07/2023 12:35

We've booked something! Portugal, £2400 for a week, all inclusive, 2 adults 1 child flying on Tuesday. There was only 3 seats left on the flight, which I assume is why it was cheaper. The seats aren't together though, do we just have to suck it up that we aren't sat together? DS is 5

OP posts:
XelaM · 29/07/2023 12:41

You can go to Eurocamp France (or elsewhere in Europe) for fairly cheap

XelaM · 29/07/2023 12:42

Ah sorry, just saw your update. Sounds great! Have a lovely holiday 🤩

Ohmylovejune · 29/07/2023 12:42

I'd imagine so because the others have all been allocated and people have probably already downloaded boarding passes.

Are they all separate or are two together and the third separate? I presume it's allowed if the booking went ahead.

If you were sat by me, I'd personally move for you so you and your DC could sit together. I'm really not bothered about such a short flight but it's a risk.

They're a few rows apart. But there's leg room spaces free so I'm hoping they might move a row to sit there (we had that happen to us when we went to Rome) as I don't think DS is allowed to sit there due to age

Not the end of the world if not. He'll just sit there with the iPad and watch a film

OP posts:
Ohmylovejune · 29/07/2023 12:55

Hopefully something will work out and if not he can be a "grown up" with his ipad.

Before you go, I would tell him about it and get him to make up his own bag of treats and activities (add drinks/fill his water bottle after security). Show him where the "grown up" seats are on a picture. It won't be a surprise then!

He will probably be disappointed if they sort something out and you are together!

Very true! Thank you 😊

Why are these posts always about AI ? We never go AI and consequently pay less than some of the prices quoted- Even if I factor in all our spending money. (And we get more variety ) - I do appreciate why many go AI but it's not compulsory and there are many reasonable priced apartments and villas out there and you can then vary meals and drinks out to your budget and even do the odd meal on your terrace if you feel like it . It's not as if you don't spend anything on an AI unless you never move from the hotel- which seems a bit of a waste- especially if you've got young kids who don't eat much or drink alcohol.

We paid £3.2k for 12 days for two of us - 5 star in Malta and Gozo including spending money and car hire (4 days) and that included staying in the Kempinski for 5 days -

We go AI as we have a 5year old, and don't want the hassle of going to a restaurant and him not liking the food, and then having to find something else for him to eat. This way he can choose what he wants and try different things
