As the title says where is hot for October half term - short flight and short transfer (up to one hour private transport)

I'm thinking Majorca - palma nova

Menorca

Corfu

Portugal

Costa del sol

Costa Blanca

Are any of these a yes or no? Any others can you think of please ?

Thanks for this - do the main resorts and restaurants and day trip type things stay open that time of year?

Most of the beach restaurants start closing at the end of October but other restaurants will still be open as will hotels and you’ll still be able to book day trips etc.

Yup @Karrpt I have experience of the torrential rain on Costa Del Sol - hence my warning 'may be heavy'. But to repeat - you would be extremely unlucky to get this the whole week.

@hollyblueivy yes - the main resorts close to Malaga should still be up and running during October half term. A lot of things stay open all year round . I don't know the ages of your children - but I would suggest that wherever you choose to go to you look into rainy day activities so you are prepared for days when the weather isn't so good. You can also double check any other child friendly activities before you go - opening times etc .

Tunisia, I went in May and it’s a three hour flight and no time difference.

@guineacup I mentioned this resort as it's the only one I could think of that fits the Op's criteria ie less than 30 minutes from the airport. Other resorts are closer ie Playa de Las Americas but the Op may not like it there.

Other Canary Islands I've visited the transfer has been longer than 30 minutes.

Lykia · 15/07/2023 10:38

@hollyblueivy yes it's a short transfer. We got a private transfer with Jet2 last year it was around £40 return and the journey was around 20 minutes.

Costa Adeje is nice.

In fuerteventura, Caleta de Fuste is about 10 mins from the airport

We went to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote in October half term last year. It was 24-28 degrees all week and the evenings were still warm enough to wear a t-shirt.

The flight time was advertised as 4 hours but both legs were less than that. Transfer time was about an hour which was a bit long as it was evening time when we arrived and we had a 4 year old so he ended up having a late night, so if we end up going back there this October I will look for a different resort with a shorter transfer time. Or book a private transfer as we stopped at about 6 different hotels before ours, so direct it would have probably been around 30 mins or less.

Hammamet. 3 hour flight and 45 minute transfer from Enfidha by private taxi.

PinkPoppyRed · 16/07/2023 00:25

Stella - when we went to Lara Beach in October last half term it was in the low 30s without a cloud in the sky. Booked again for this half term and looking again for next October as you cannot beat the hotels out there with the 24/7 all inclusive it's fantastic for kids

Depends how much you want to trade flying time with weather. I would do Malaga personally, it is advertised as 3 hours from Gatwick, but most flights do it in 2.30 (see below clip as evidence) I like it because it is only 30 mins tops to most hotels (Torremolinos, Benalmadena etc. and there is a train direct out of the airport that goes every half an hour or so and goes along the coast for a couple of euros). Plenty of choice re: hotels. The weather there is not absolutely guaranteed, you need the Canaries for that (or some of the other places mentioned). Just on personal experience, anything on the Algarve can be hit an miss, also the Balearics.
