As the title says where is hot for October half term - short flight and short transfer (up to one hour private transport)

I'm thinking Majorca - palma nova

Menorca

Corfu

Portugal

Costa del sol

Costa Blanca

Are any of these a yes or no? Any others can you think of please ?

Agree with PPs who mention Seville. Andalucia has an amazing climate almost year-round. Lived there for a couple of years so can vouch. Granada is also fab. But for a beach holiday, look at flying to Almeria. We went last Oct half term. On the beach in swimwear every day and swimming in the sea. Wonderful. We stay about half an hour away from the airport in a small village but it’s not a resort - however, Jet2 fly to Almeria so maybe check their package holiday deals?

If you can stretch to 4 ish hours
Lara beach in turkey is about 15 minutes transfer

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/07/2023 22:56

I'm not sure that anywhere is guaranteed to be hot and sunny at any given time.

Yes the temperatures are more guaranteed in the canaries but it can be cloudy and windy too .

Costa Del Sol you would be very unlucky to get a whole week without sunshine, but I would probably expect to have a couple of days where there was cloud and a bit of rain - which may be heavy .

As I think of it, we went to Sitges October half term one year, that's quite a bit further north, and it was lovely - but no guarantees!

Extremely heavy some years. Torrential in fact. Turkey will possibly be cool too. I'm not sure how much some pps know about how lucky they've been with weather on the cusp of November on this thread

Mallorca is not guaranteed in October, I'd go canaries or turkey.

Another vote for the Costa del Sol. I live in Andalucia and the weather is generally still good at the end of October so we often have family coming at that time of year. I’d suggest flying into Malaga and either basing yourself there or going to one of the resorts like Fuengirola, Benalmadena or Torremolinos which are all really close and easy to get to from Malaga by bus or train. One benefit of staying in Malaga is that if you do have the odd cloudy day there are still loads of things to do.

We went to Seville in early October once and it was in the high 30’s the whole time!

and? What is the point of writing this comment? It was 30 in October in England once.

🙄it was a suggestion as Seville is always warm later in the year than most of Europe.

PinkPoppyRed · 15/07/2023 00:09

Also recommend Lara Beach in Turkey about a 4 hour flight and 15-20 mins transfer time. Went last October half term and have booked again for this year

I didnt think Turkey was good for Oct half term week.

This has peaked my interest - what temps did you have?

CallieQ · 15/07/2023 01:07

Turkish riviera

SleepingUnderaRainbow321 · 15/07/2023 05:27

Malta

Egypt- further to fly

LiloP · 15/07/2023 05:34

Don’t go to Lara Beach, didn’t like it at all. We had a rainy Easter holiday, nowhere near the expected 25 degrees. Very boring AI places one after the other, no town unless you want a high streer with fake designer bags and shoes or track to Antalya. No character at all.

pilates · 15/07/2023 05:44

I would stick to canaries - a small island so where-ever you stay will be a short transfer.

bk1981 · 15/07/2023 06:53

We did Rome/Sorrento last October half term. It was sunny the whole week and mid twenties during the day I think. Evenings were a bit chilly but could still eat out with a jacket on.

Is that nice at the end of October? I know it's only 2.5 hour flight so assumed it would be off the cards?

Thanks for this - do the main resorts and restaurants and day trip type things stay open that time of year?

Canaries are best bet.

reluctantbrit · 15/07/2023 07:36

We went to Lanzerote and Cyprus in the last week in October and in both cases had a big mix of hot and sunny days and a day of downpour.

It also cools down quick in the late afternoon when the sun goes down.

We still enjoyed it but it's not guaranteed to have 100% sunshine and beach weather.

Also, do check what is still open, even at the resorts. Ours had some of the restaurants already on reduced days and some in the towns were also closing.

We stopped looking at October sun holidays and now do a city break and just accept that the weather may not be great.

grass321 · 15/07/2023 07:50

We went to ikos Andalusia in October half term last year and the weather was lovely. Early 20s, no rain and warm enough to lie outside by the pool.

freetheunicorn1 · 15/07/2023 08:05

Turkey, we went to Fethiye last October and is was mid to late 20s during the day.

hopsalong · 15/07/2023 08:10

I totally understand wanting to keep the flight down to three hours, especially with kids.

If you're content to leave things open and if cost isn't that much of an issue, I would book a few days before once you have the 10-day forecast. In the UK it's hard to forecast the fickle weather but forecasts are much more accurate in places like Ibiza or Cyprus. It might be that the weather is unusually warm and you can go almost anywhere in Spain, even the south of France, Sicily etc and enjoy good weather. (Also doesn't sound as if you want it to be very hot.) Or you might have to go to the Canaries. Because of the tourist season ending I would aim to go to somewhere that doesn't get all of its income from tourism. Seville is a good suggestion.

The BA holiday finder is buggy but lets you choose destinations by flight time and temperature range on a particular date.

Seville is an hour and a half from the coast anyway if she's looking for a beach holiday.
It can be really warm at the end of October or piss it down torrentially for a week.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2023 08:18

The Med gets most of its rain at that time of year. @hollyblueivy you need to be realistic and accept that if you want a short flight time the weather will be less reliable. Lanzarote springs to mind as it isn't very big, and most resorts will fit into your short transfer time criteria, especially If you take a taxi. We last flew there from East Midlands airport and it was under 4 hours.

DogFord · 15/07/2023 08:20

Turkey is 4 hours and still lovely in October, the Antalya region is the hottest but we have been to other parts in October and still been able to sunbathe all day, and didn’t need jackets in the evening either.

I think that Bodrum, Sarigeme (near Dalaman airport) and Side are all about 30 minutes at most, as far as I remember.

There are great all inclusives there and some good deals at the moment (particularly through Thomas Cook for some reason!)

We have just booked for the 17th October and are really looking toward to it.
