Where to go for my 50th

So I am 50 at the end of next year and want to go on holiday for 2 weeks to somewhere amazing that I’ve never been before!
The only trouble is I will have 2 x 11 year old DD’s and DH plus I used to fly for Etihad Airlines. So I have lived in the Middle East and have flown to some fantastic locations. I’ve travelled around Australia, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, a few African countries and most of The US, Mexico and Europe.
Sorry I know I sound like a massive AH but help! Where can I go for 2 week that will wow me?
We all love the beach but also history and sightseeing. We can do either all inclusive or backpacking I’m up for anything! Budget around £6000.

Norway or Finland to see the northern lights, huskies etc…?

Farmageddon · 23/06/2023 15:30

What about Japan? I've never been but would love to go some day.

Your kids will probably love all the weird Anime stuff, there are old temples, and apparently in September/ October time it's not too cold, so it would be a good time to go. Also the train system is supposed to be really good, so it would be easy enough to travel around.

What about traveling through parts of Europe?
So much to see. So much history.
Make it into a 3 or 4 destination holiday.

Pineappletart7 · 23/06/2023 15:50

Mauritius!! You could go from there to Madagascar for a short trip too

MermaidEyes · 23/06/2023 15:51

Japan and South Korea. The Caribbean (could do several different islands within the two weeks). Canada, travelling through the Rockies, Vancouver.

NeverendingCircus · 23/06/2023 15:56

Japan! Absolutely beautiful country with mountains, hot springs, wild monkeys, gorgeous temples and shrines but also mega modern with cute robots, very clean cities, bullet train etc, Delicious food, amazing art, loads to do.

Costa Rica ? (Never been but would love to.)

I wouldn't go to Mauritius I was a bit under whelmed when I went
Japan sounds like it could be amazing.

Villagetoraiseachild · 23/06/2023 16:07

Seriously tho Op, I went to Japan for my fortieth and loved it. Bali is also wonderful....monkeys, beaches, culture, gentle people, lovely food and massages available.....

LooPissCapaldi · 23/06/2023 16:15

Uzbekistan

StampOnTheGround · 23/06/2023 16:15

Indonesia, not just Bali (which some parts are absolutely beautiful!) but got to 3/4 different places

OneFrenchEgg · 23/06/2023 16:16

Scotland - it's gorgeous

EmpressSoleil · 23/06/2023 16:17

Another vote for Japan. I went for my 40th and loved it so much I've been back a few times since.

Newgirls · 23/06/2023 16:21

Iceland? For an adventure?

Greece to explore?

Ilikewinter · 23/06/2023 16:24

I would pick Canada, Vancouver Island and the Rockies.....but PP suggestion of Japan also sounds intriguing !.

Netcam · 23/06/2023 16:25

Japan is great, lived there for 2 years in my relative youth. But I'd be amazed if you could do 2 weeks for 4 people including flights for £6000. I'd be sticking to short haul flights with that budget. How about Slovenia?

DramaticBananas · 23/06/2023 16:26

Oh, Japan. Yes! See if you can fit in a music festival too. One like Glastonbury or Latitude. Try one that has tents already set up for you to save precious energy. You'll discover new music you never knew you liked. Just go with a couple of friends, chat to anyone and keep an open mind.

jellyminelli · 23/06/2023 16:42

You're not going to be wowed in Japan for 2 weeks on 6k.

I'd stay closer to home, whereabouts in Europe have you been?

cherryassam · 23/06/2023 16:46

I agree with PPs that long haul for 4 is going to be difficult with a £6000 budget.

what time of year are you hoping to go?
What travelling have you done in Europe?

Maddy70 · 23/06/2023 16:51

Japan definitely

Maddy70 · 23/06/2023 16:51

Cruise?

Ohjustboreoff · 23/06/2023 16:53

@Farmageddon Japan is amazing! I would love to go back but I lived there during a gap year at uni. It's definitely on my short list of return to countries.
