Where to go for my 50th

So I am 50 at the end of next year and want to go on holiday for 2 weeks to somewhere amazing that I’ve never been before!
The only trouble is I will have 2 x 11 year old DD’s and DH plus I used to fly for Etihad Airlines. So I have lived in the Middle East and have flown to some fantastic locations. I’ve travelled around Australia, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, a few African countries and most of The US, Mexico and Europe.
Sorry I know I sound like a massive AH but help! Where can I go for 2 week that will wow me?
We all love the beach but also history and sightseeing. We can do either all inclusive or backpacking I’m up for anything! Budget around £6000.

Indonesia, not just Bali (which some parts are absolutely beautiful!) but got to 3/4 different places

I second this. Next year we're doing Bali, Lombok and also sailing around the Komodo Islands and it looks amazing!

Sorry, I just saw your budget - forget Argentina and Brazil for 4 people for £6k. You'd need at least double that amount, I reckon.

Iceland is bloody expensive too, so look into the price of that before you all get too excited.

For £6k I think I'd book something fabulous in Europe - a city break in a lovely hotel.

I don't know if France is not special enough for you, but one of the best holidays we had with our sons 4 years ago when they were 12 and 15 was at this chateau hotel in the Dordogne.

We stayed in the Family Charme room which had a main double bedroom with decent fridge and big en suite shower and separate toilet and then an interconnecting adjoining twin room with it's own toilet. The restaurant had really nice food that definitely felt special. We stayed a week and booked half board for some of the days and other days bought breakfast from the local bakery which we ate on the castle terrace and tried some of the amazing local restaurants for dinner.

We flew BA to Bergerac where we hired a car for a week. There was loads of stuff to do in the area, we did canoeing on the Dordogne, visited Lascaux caves and museum which the boys loved and visited a great museum with garden on top of a huge rock peak with an excellent outdoor activity trail. The hotel had 2 really nice heated swimming pools, one adult only and one for everyone, which were great to come back to after a day out in the hot weather.

It was not busy and bustling with entertainment if that's your thing, but friendly and felt kind of unique and special. We also thought it was pretty good value, although I imagine you would need to book that family room quite far in advance for school holidays, although they also have some gites by the swimming pool if you want the option to self cater and eat at the restaurant sometimes.

OP is there any chance you could just do one week rather than two, which would give you a lot more options for your money.

WhoHasTimeForThat · 24/06/2023 14:57

Two weeks with a budget of 1500 pp? Do you still get staff travel? I don’t fancy your chances of getting something long haul unless you still get your flight perks and that’s just your land budget. I was going to suggest Galapagos, which is where we are going for my 50th, until I saw the 6000 for 4.

Newgirls · 24/06/2023 16:41

The geothermal pools are amazing - plenty dotted all around so you can done each day. waterfalls anazing. Very cool bars/food halls in rekyavik which have teen appeal

Did OP say, 6K for 4 people, 2 weeks? That’s not enough money for long haul

StampOnTheGround · 24/06/2023 22:25

Ahh yes, I hadn't taken note of the budget either, especially for 4 people, for 2 weeks somewhere - I'd definitely look at europe for that, lots of great places to see!

I've just booked Iceland for my 50th birthday!

itstrue · 24/06/2023 23:39

Nepal? I'm planning on hiking to base camp for my 50th next year

LooPissCapaldi · 25/06/2023 00:39

No, but friends have. Had a great time traveling up the old Silk Road route. Really fascinating and untouched by a lot of tourism.
On my list to go to when the kids are older

MadameBrigitte · 25/06/2023 05:34

I'm 50 next year and we're planning on doing route 66, I've wanted to do it for as long as I can remember. The only other place I wanted to visit was the Galapagos but sadly way too expensive.
Have a great time op whatever you decide on!

Ohjustboreoff · 27/06/2023 14:11

We've stretched the budget a bit and having two weeks in Iceland with an Artic Circle and Blue Lagoon tour. Fingers crossed for the Northern Lights.

Mexico City and then over to Oaxaca and the Pacific coastline. The food is incredible, MC has more museums than London and the Pacific coastline is stunning.

Newjobformoremoney · 27/06/2023 15:22

Ohh OP sounds great. Send us the links for what you’ve choose? I’m desperate to see the northern lights.

gogomoto · 27/06/2023 15:48

Victoria falls and Mozambique... not sure if it's in budget though
