AIBU to go out to neighbour and ask them to stop?

So it’s 9.20am bank holiday Monday and a beautiful morning. DD playing on the patio and I’m just putting our baby down for nap 1.

For the last 30 minutes out neighbour has been cutting flags on and off. It’s the loudest most annoying noise I can imagine at this time on a Monday morning. We do have the windows open as it’s a lovely morning, but even closed we can hear it.

DH is cross too but thinks we shouldn’t say anything… he’s worried we will start an ongoing argument as a few weeks back, he was doing some more flag cutting at 8pm and woke both my kids up! I absolutely went out and told him to stop that time.

Would I be unreasonable to ask neighbour to stop now? I know we are up anyway with the kids, but it’s early right?

for reference, neighbours have been extensively renovating for 12 months and I think they’re desperate to finish their drive and be done with it all!

YABU it's not an unreasonable time - when do you want him to do it?

Peacepudding · 29/05/2023 09:31

Unfortunately you can't ask somebody to stop at 9:20

BonnieGlasses · 29/05/2023 09:31

YABU sorry.

Womencanlift · 29/05/2023 09:31

Not an unreasonable time at all, even if it was a weekend or bank holiday. YABU

I want to agree with the others but i have no idea what it means to cut a flag.

Conkersinautumn · 29/05/2023 09:32

After 9 it's really annoying but a reasonable hour. Maybe a nap in the pram away from the noise. Yes it's frustrating but hopefully with a big push today you'll get peace later this evening?

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 29/05/2023 09:32

9:20 isn’t early. 😂

What time would you find acceptable?

FloweryName · 29/05/2023 09:33

9.20 is not too early and you would be very much in the wrong to complain.

Me either.

Tinkerbyebye · 29/05/2023 09:33

It’s a reasonable time although I agree the noise will be bad. But if they crack on now and get it done at least it will be finished

I think it means flagstones, so presumably cutting with some sort of grinder thingy?

BabbleBee · 29/05/2023 09:33

It’s not too early, and unfortunately your neighbours schedule doesn’t have to work around baby’s nap time.

Try and think of it that the more times you ask him to stop, the longer it’s going to take to get finished.

Womencanlift · 29/05/2023 09:33

Flagstones aka patio slabs

NameforMN · 29/05/2023 09:33

I think it's a flagstone?

Yabu. 9.20 is fine.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 29/05/2023 09:34

Flagstone??

Sandylanes69 · 29/05/2023 09:34

Call the flag-cutting police IMMEDIATELY 🚔 🚩🏳️‍🌈

Op means cutting slabs.

Op, YABU.

it’s early right?

It really isn’t.

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 29/05/2023 09:34

Presume flagstone with a grinder.. Usually a no no on a bank holiday.. Check your council website. One Easter Sunday out ndn started filling a skip from an upstairs window with rubble... Soon put a stop to that!

HappyHolidays22 · 29/05/2023 09:35

Think really loud drilling but more high pitched.

Gutted to read the consensus is that I’m being unreasonable - wasn’t expecting that! But fair enough - I am going to take this as a warning to wind my neck in and keep quiet!

hope everyone’s morning is more peaceful than ours 😝

Agree with other -YABU.
Your neighbours would likely think you are bonkers.
Unfortunately it coincides with baby's nap time but it won't be the last thing that does.

Gtsr443 · 29/05/2023 09:36

Yabu. For a lot of people BHM is the one day they can get chores done. And it's not early.

PinkiOcelot · 29/05/2023 09:37

YADBU. When would be a suitable time for you? It’s hardly too early.
