Anybody else really boring on holiday?

We're currently on holiday in Mexico. It's amazing, fabulous hotel and just loving our time here. Both mid fifties and done the holidays with mates plus holidays with young and then teenage kids. Our time now.

Explored the area, day on the beach and done a couple of trips but our day to day is pretty boring really.

We're early risers so breakfast is 7-7.30am. Down by the pool by 8am. Early morning sun and the quiet is bliss. The noise of the animals and birds so different to the U.K. birdsong.

Couple of iced coffees when the bar opens at 10am. Reading, listening to music, swim. Lunch at 1 ish and afternoon, few cocktails and back to the book under the shade.

Evening meal at the a la cartes around 7pm, last drink in the bar and we're back in our room by 9pm.

We just can't seem to extend our evenings. We're both quite happy with this, don't think I could stay up until 11pm.

Anyone else in a similar holiday vibe?

But surely in life, there is room for both types? Could I do every holiday lazing by the pool, no? But once a year, a week of nothingness, I love it.

I love the packing, knowing all I'll need for a week is a couple of swimmers, a couple of throw-over dresses and a couple of books. But, equally, I love a holiday that requires loads of research to find the right places to visit, and then once there, spontaneous exploring of back streets and dodgy alleys.

Enjoy your holiday Op, and get recharged 🏖

We like not seeing huge numbers of people in cities from time to time. We like the countryside and wild places plus wildlife viewing. We did beach holidays when dc were small but from around 5/6 we took them on safari holidays and places like the Galápagos Islands and India. We find relaxing easy but need to see exciting things as well.

We like a bit of both! Two weeks Mexico City then Oaxaca exploring and then Tulum for ruins and beautiful cenotes. Now bumming around on the beach for the last week with almost exactly the same schedule as you.

Sounds like my kind of holiday but we like to hire a villa so we do all that with no one else around. We also intersperse lazy days by travelling around in a hire car to fully explore areas further afield.

We don’t socialise and we are in bed by 10pm. It’s great.

I can't wait to be able to go away again, just my DH and me! This sounds like bliss. We have quite a few years of family holidays to go first though ...

We have a mix of holidays but I love a lazy beach holiday too. Morning at beach before it gets too hot, afternoon by pool. Nice

Sun, pool, drink, book is my absolute dream holiday. Got a few years til the kids are old enough to have one though.

DarkDarkNight · 14/05/2023 18:57

Sounds like heaven to me.

We like a lazy holiday, up early to sit in the peacefulness before the resort really wakes up, breakfast, pool/beach, late morning coffee, lunch, a couple of drinks, more pool/beach sitting, all while reading a good book. Fairly early dinner, a few more drinks then generally sit on patio or balcony listening to low music before bed at around 10pm. We like to get off a resort in a couple of days, usually the local town or out on an excursion of some sort.

Since my husband's heart attack he cannot stay up past 9, even on holidays so we are like you. I think it sounds absolutely wonderful. Enjoy and don't worry if it is boring. You will have a good rest!

We have a mix of holiday types.

Some are city breaks, some are multi centre with exploring the first part and a few days relaxing at the end. Some, especially winter sun, are mainly relaxing with a few trips out.

Currently away now.

We've been to the local town a couple of times fir a stroll, watch the sunset, meals out.
We've been to an elephant sanctuary, for a trip on a bamboo raft, a 'jungle' meal, a temple or two, turtle sanctuary, local market, tsunami memorial, etc.
Rest of time has been in the pool, sea, walks on the beach, chance to read, lovely meals locally, drinks at the bar, etc.

It's been a much more relaxing holiday than what we do in the summer but it was very much needed too.

Thailand or Sri Lanka?

absolutely perfect. i can't wait for these holidays. went to spain with two teenagers and an 18 month old who runs off the minute his feet hit the floor. was hell on earth.

FrenchandSaunders · 04/09/2023 17:46

I used to love a holiday like that when I commuted every day for hours. Now I'm wfh I prefer a more active holiday, after a couple of days of podcasts/sunbeds/cocktails. We're a similar age (mid 50s). DH has a very physical job though so he wants to do what you do! It's trying to find a balance.

Our DDs are coming with us on our next one (early 20s), so I'll hire a car and be out and about with them for some of the time.

Dreamingofasandybeach · 04/09/2023 17:52

sounds absolutely perfect to me! we get called boring by our friends when we tell them what we get up to on our two week long haul holidays as we only do about 2 excursions (they are usually full on day ones though ie, catamaran to an island, snorkeling)

We love nothing more than to wake up, then Fiancé goes down to get us a nice chair either on the beach or by the pool, I get ready, then we have our breakfast and stay at the beach till lunchtime reading our books, have a nice lunch, then we usually move to the pool area then at 5 we walk back to the room and have a lie down, then we go out and have some food and then have some drinks and play cards ☺️ We love it! it's our time to relax and enjoy ourselves and not stress about work or responsibilities ❤️ enjoy yourselves! you deserve it 👏

muddyford · 04/09/2023 18:09

Sounds blissful!
