Passports!!

Has anyone ordered new passports recently? How long did they take to come after sending documents In?
Also I don't have contact with my parents they've asked for my mums birth certificate which I can't get. So I've written a cover letter proving her name, date of birth and passport number. Do you think this will be okay?

I think there’s a 5 week strike about to happen?

dementedpixie · 26/03/2023 18:50

Is it a passport for yourself?
Her passport number should be OK I would think.

There is, I spoke to them yesterday and the strike won't effect applications or passports being sent out 🙂

It is yeah, it's my first ever one. I don't have any contact with parents due to being a care leaver so it's the only information I can get 😪

It's to show you are a British citizen through your mother. Passport number should do for that

Ahh see in the application form when it asked if she had a passport I selected I didn't know (because I didn't lol) but when I got to the part it was telling me which documents I needed I realised I had to get a birth certificate for her. So I asked my cousin to speak to her for me and find out if she had a birth certificate which is when she said no she doesn't just a passport number. Wish I found out before selecting I don't know... but I have written a cover letter explaining I just hope it's okay...

You can order birth certificates online but the passport number should be sufficient

We recently got one back within a week of having our online application approved. It took a few attempts to find a suitable person to confirm the photo but was quick once we sorted that.

tribpot · 26/03/2023 18:58

I think as a care leaver Social Services should be involved in applying for your passport. I found some guidance here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/118775/looked-after-children-passports.pdf and it sounds as if they would need to apply to the UK Border Agency for a 'status letter', has anyone mentioned this to you?

Ordered some last weekend, old passport received by them on Monday and new one printed by Friday, currently awaiting it in the post!

We've all had our identities confirmed just waiting for them to receive documents 🤞

Don't first time adult passport applicants have to have an interview?

Hi, I applied 4th feb and they arrived 25th Feb. Had to have photos verified online and also send old passports. Pretty quick turnaround, was for 2 kids passports.

Not all the time, when I did my application it said "you may be selected for an interview" it's not 100%

Yes a first adult passport may require an interview. During covid some were online I think

Hi. I've sent off online applications for dh and 2dcs. My dsis recently applied for a first time passport for her ds and it arrived 10 days after submitting everything so fingers crossed they're still running reasonably fast.

HamstersAreMyLife · 26/03/2023 19:04

Our recent renewal took 4 weeks (have always been a week to 10 days before) I think a lot depends on which office. Ours kept asking for more and more things so I had to rung twice to speak to them and chase things up. I'd just make sure you keep an eye on things wirh the strike

I recently applied for my daughter's first passport. We live abroad and she was born here so me applying for her passport was effectively the first time the UK became aware of her existence, and we had to send quite a lot of documents to prove her entitlement to British citizenship. It took 4 weeks from the initial application to receiving the passport, including 8 days for the supporting documents to get to the passport office from where we live. About a week after the supporting documents arrived I got an email asking me to send a scanned copy of my countersignatory's (the person who confirmed her identity) passport. Once I'd done that I got a message within hours to say the application had been approved and the passport was being printed. It arrived in the post about a week layer.
