Passports!!

Has anyone ordered new passports recently? How long did they take to come after sending documents In?
Also I don't have contact with my parents they've asked for my mums birth certificate which I can't get. So I've written a cover letter proving her name, date of birth and passport number. Do you think this will be okay?

I applied for mine just after Xmas. They said it could take up to ten weeks but I got it back after about a fortnight. I have a couple of friends at about the same time and they also got theirs back quickly. I have no idea if the upcoming strikes will already be having an impact though.

I recently applied for my daughter's first passport. We live abroad and she was born here so me applying for her passport was effectively the first time the UK became aware of her existence, and we had to send quite a lot of documents to prove her entitlement to British citizenship. It took 4 weeks from the initial application to receiving the passport, including 8 days for the supporting documents to get to the passport office from where we live. About a week after the supporting documents arrived I got an email asking me to send a scanned copy of my countersignatory's (the person who confirmed her identity) passport. Once I'd done that I got a message within hours to say the application had been approved and the passport was being printed. It arrived in the post about a week layer.

Ahh that's not too long then!

Dd has just had hers back in under 3 weeks. It was a renewal.

We've recently (last month) renewed an adult and child, it was about 2 weeks max from submitting online application to receiving new ones in post.

Mine was a renewal but I applied on March 10th and received new passport on March 20th so it was really quick

I submitted my son's renewal on the 12th March. Didn't send old passport until the 15th. His new passport arrived yesterday.

I think the passport office staff announced that they were taking industrial action on the 16th, and there has been a flood of applications since. You're supposed to leave 10 weeks as it stands, but I don't think I'd be risking much money until I had it in my hand.

Hope yours comes through soon.

Applications and passports being sent out won't be affected by the strike they say yesterday

I wouldn't be surprised if they do a deal before the strike action even starts. Get your application in and give it a couple of weeks to see what happens. If you can afford to lose the deposit, but I wouldn't shell out for the whole thing, even if it was more than 10 weeks away, just in case. If it is a mass walkout, I can't see how it won't affect applications. What are they all doing all day otherwise.

Holiday insurance won't cover you if it doesn't come in time. Unless you can book flights that you can move without a big cost, and accommodation that is refundable right up to the last minute.

Do you mean deposit for a holiday or for the passport? And I've been told not all passport offices are striking at the Same time not sure how true that is tho

Applied for DS's first passport last weekend and it was approved today and sent to print so hopefully will be delivered sometime in the next week.

We'd put the deposit down and could afford to lose it but if it got to time to pay the full balance and I still had no passport, I wouldn't risk that because prices are insanely expensive this year.

We applied abouts 2 weeks ago on a staurday, sent docs monday, 1 that was a renewal come back that friday, 2 first child passports came back the thursday after that, and ive got an interview on the 4th and they said it will be printed after that, had emails to say the 3 we had already got were ready for printing and we got them 2 days later

Apparently not all offices are striking at the same time. When I spoke to them the other day I said the same thing and they said at the minute we're to give up to 10 weeks for them to come and it'll be the same during strikes too
