I have friens but for various reasosns they do not want to go on holiday with me. The problem is the destination. I want to go to Florida. I ased one friend who likes going to America and she said sorry I could not go to Florida because it is to hot there. Another frien said to me yes she would like to go to America but her daughter is planning to go to New York andd she wants to wait until her daughter is in New Yor and then she will go over and visit herr. Another friend said to me she cannot aford to go to America. Another person said she has no interest in America

What do I do? Go by myself or not go at all and miss out on a place that I woul love to go to. I have searched group tour but none of them go to Florida and besides they are very expenive and my experience of tours is that it i not relaxing, My idea of a goo holiday is having days wehre you go out and about seeing tourist sites an then have a couple of rest days where you just chill.

If it's somewhere you'd love to go, absolutely go on your own, don't miss out just because nobody is able to go with you.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 14/01/2023 14:55

If you really want to go but not on your own, I think the best bet is paying for the friend who wants to go but cannot afford it.
Otherwise, go on your own.

Florissant · 14/01/2023 14:56

What's stopping you from going on your own?

LIZS · 14/01/2023 15:05

It is not hot all year, warm, humid but seasonal.

BungleandGeorge · 14/01/2023 15:12

i can’t see a reason not to go to the US on your own? Have you been away alone before?

rookiemere · 14/01/2023 15:13

Why Florida in particular- do you want to go to the theme parks ?

validnumber · 14/01/2023 15:14

Definitely go on your own.
Are there any traveler boards you could go on to arrange meeting up with others out there (safely) if you want to?

if you go on your own then you hae noboy to share the exerience with. If you are with someone and see something nice like a place of interest you can say to th person with you look at that over there isnt it nice. Then you can share the experience and talk about it. Also going out to a restaurant for a meal on your own esecially in the evening. You eat alone you sit alone and you are surroundedd by groups of peole chatting. Again you hae nobody with you to share the meal with and nobdy to say oh this dish is lovely what shal we have for desert. Then in th evening you go bac to your hhotel on your own and you cant say to anyone we had a lovely ay today where shall we go tomorrow.

Have a look on Facebook - there is a group called, I think, Women Travelling Alone. If not, there will be others. You could maybe find someone to meet up with who'd like to go to Florida too.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/01/2023 23:11

I would go alone. I think there’s something lovely about the idea of complete independence.

Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Everglades, Keys, I’m not sure there is enough to build a tour from, that’s why you can’t find one - Tour Hound has loads, but only dips to Orlando.

You could base yourself in Miami and do all
of those. Driving in Miami is hectic so day trips might be best. Not looked but I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find something.

Actually OP I found this

Looks like the sites I said and more

I always go on holiday alone.

More often than not people at the next table start chatting.

It's a different experience, but still a great one.

Warspite · 15/01/2023 10:06

Look up a web site called “Sister Stay”
These are women (only) world wide who offer a room etc in their own homes & look out for you.
I think this might suit you. It’s something I would try if I was travelling alone.

I have been on holiday on my own a few times. When I went to a hotel in Madeira I was befriended at dinner by two couples who took me under their wing. We had some lovely dinners out and trips to see the island. They were great company.

I once went on a steam train holiday because I love steam trains!
I was never alone because my fellow travellers were so kind. Frankly I was glad to get back to my room after dinner each night!

I’ve also done walking holidays where I’ve joined a group of walkers in the Lakes for example. Had a great time and came back home really energised.

In your shoes I’d pick a hotel, sort out transfers and go! When you get there the concierge will help with tours to various places I’m sure.

Frankly don’t think you will be alone for long. Just keep your antennae up, don’t do anything your gut is telling you not too and I think you’ll have a great time.

There’s a company called “Just You” who do singles holidays. Not sure about Florida but look them up too.

Florida is lovely at/around Easter. Quieter because all the “snow birds” have gone back up north.
Go for it!

What about staying in hostels? Although they tend to cater more to a younger crowd they're cheap, a good place to meet others and often offer tours cheaply themselves. When I went to the US I stayed in hostels (late 20's) and always met people to do things with and went on day tours.

why would I want to stay in a hostel? I can afford a hotl. I did stay in a hostel for one night in Australia and it was horrible. I vowed never to do it again. I do not lie them at all

Flute56 · 15/01/2023 17:41
