I have friens but for various reasosns they do not want to go on holiday with me. The problem is the destination. I want to go to Florida. I ased one friend who likes going to America and she said sorry I could not go to Florida because it is to hot there. Another frien said to me yes she would like to go to America but her daughter is planning to go to New York andd she wants to wait until her daughter is in New Yor and then she will go over and visit herr. Another friend said to me she cannot aford to go to America. Another person said she has no interest in America

What do I do? Go by myself or not go at all and miss out on a place that I woul love to go to. I have searched group tour but none of them go to Florida and besides they are very expenive and my experience of tours is that it i not relaxing, My idea of a goo holiday is having days wehre you go out and about seeing tourist sites an then have a couple of rest days where you just chill.

I suggest that you go visit a travel agent that deals with tailor made trips. Tell them exactly what you want to do and ask them to arrange an itinerary, book hotels, get you from place to place etc. There are many agents who do this.

It'll cost ya though! So be prepared for that, but it shouldn't be an issue especially to a popular spot like Florida.

@Flute56 you might be better posting on the forum for the area you want to go to in Tripadvisor as there are more people who have been to the specific area and will have good ideas about what might work for you.

GibKev · 15/01/2023 18:07

I am a single guy and often go to USA alone. I book sporting events, Comic cons etc and love the freedom of being able to do what I want when I want.

Obviously being a lady, just make sure its a safe area to be alone. Do it, you wont regret going. And you might meet new people there and do excursions etc.

did you hear about that feale who went to NZ anone an met a guy an got on very well with him. He inite her to his room or flat or whereever and he killed her. I would not go into a home or room of a perrson I did not now well no matter how well we got on. It takes time to get to know someone andd I mean a lot of time.

Lots of great ideas for you op.

Try looking up the things op’s have recommended then make your mind up, don’t dismiss the ideas before you have investigated them.

You could go on your own, millions do every year.. ☺️

mollynolly · 15/01/2023 18:31

Why don't you invite your physio? 😉

rookiemere · 15/01/2023 19:50

@Flute56 I wasn't suggesting for one minute that you travel with some randomer from tripadvisor, I meant that they are more likely to be able to give you advice on day trips and tours you could do on your own.

LordSugarTits · 15/01/2023 19:53

"why would I want to stay in a hostel? I can afford a hotl. I did stay in a hostel for one night in Australia and it was horrible. I vowed never to do it again. I do not lie them at all"

Confused it was just a suggestion.

Spectre8 · 15/01/2023 20:02

Its America..they hear an English accent and they love to chat to you. I've been to LA a few times on my own. I love it, I do what I want when I want. When I go eat the waiters/waitress always have a chat cos they are elite oh your from the uk. You can still have those chats like I've had a lovely day or the food is great with them.

I went to see a movie and had abit of a chat with the guy serving me, just about how different their menu is compared to the uk. That's a chat I would ofnhad if I was with someone and they never seem to mind at all.

Just keep an open mind, take most of opportunities to have a small chat where you can.

Most importantly just go!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 15/01/2023 20:20

I was you a few years ago and I came to two choices, stay home waiting for someone to eventually be available for travelling with me or go it alone. Bit the bullet and went alone and have done several solo trips since then.

Yes, it can be a bit daunting at first and there are times it would be nice to have the 'shared experience' but the trade off is you can do exactly as you please and you will get chatting to many interesting people that you might not had done if in a twosome.

If you sit around waiting for someone to travel with you might find it never happens.

Bard6817 · 15/01/2023 20:24

Eating alone in America is quite normal - unkllike here in the Uk.

In fact, it’s so different, I with a friend to a bar in new york and barely spoke with him, as we had sat at the bar, and everyone who came up to either side of us was on their own too, and chatted to us as we had ‘accents’.

There’s almost always individuals staying in the hotels too - so again - bar chat is possible and you get great recommendations or even a free guide sometimes.

Florida can be insanely hot, and crazy wet. so pick your time.

My final suggestion is to go another year, and try somewhere else with others in the meantime.

Id definately go to Florida on my own - and i never go anywhere without mates or partner.

Flute56 · 15/01/2023 21:09

I actually went to Canaa alone in May last year. I was curious to see what it was like. I went to Toronto. It was a big mistake. Everythg wa too far away. I stayed in a maive commercial hotel which I did not like and eating in the hotel retaurant was very lonely as nobody spoke to me. It was a boring disaster rom start to finish

So you had a bad experience you must of learnt from that so just apply it this time. Go on tripadvisor asks for suggestions. You get really good advice.

Or failing go to explore and join a solo tour group.

To be honest your just coming across really resistant to suggestions so I dunno maybe you need to just be bit less negative

Sunsetintheeast · 15/01/2023 21:23

You’re pretty negative OP, do you think this might be why no one wants to go away with you?

Lovemydoggiesomuch · 15/01/2023 21:25

I am wizzing off to NZ next year….cannot wait for me time TBH .

This

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 15/01/2023 21:31

I've been to Toronto alone too and really enjoyed it! It sounds like your first mistake was not staying centrally (although Toronto has decent public transport). My hotel was across from Union Station so I could walk to most places. I also took a bus tour to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I thought it an incredible, diverse and fairly compact, city with nature on the doorstep so its a shame you found it boring.

Did you research in advance - for example, which sights you wanted to visit, location of hotel in relation to what you see? For me, researching somewhere new is key but I enjoy the planning.

no I do not. The reason is money or not keen on the destination or they want to go to other destinations for whatever reason.

i booked through a trael agent and th agent suggested th hotel saying he loved it thre an that it was a lovely hotel. For starters I got there and was ased to pay a fee. I said what is this fee for and was told it was for danage to the hotel. They said you gt it back on departure. I have stayed in very smalll hotels in usa and havve never been ased to pay a bond beore and was told but this is a large commerial hotel. Also the breakfasts were not free. I thought I wa aying on a bed and breakfast basis but it was only bed so when I went to breakfast I fille my plate thinking it wass free. The first coule of days noboy approached me and then someone saidd what room are you in so I said why do you as and they sai because we can bill you for your breakfast. I said excuse me its ree an they said no it not.

I then had to pay for the first two breakffasts as well as the third one and then I stopped having them because they were expensive and I just ha toast. The other thing that put me off was loads of beggars sitting near the hotel to try and get money off peole Sorry but I would never go to Torronto again. There was a loely ice cream shop I found nearby and I got ice cream an went back the next day and it wa shut There was no sign on the door to say what times they open so I asked in the next door shop an was told we do not knwo. I hung around for hours and eventually at 5pm the owner turned up. I said oh you are here and she sai yess and I said I did not know what tie you were open as there was no sign on the door andd she sai I o not need to put my opening times on the door as most people know what time I open. i then said but I am a tourist so had no idea. I am not a local. Goodnes sake most shop people have opening an closing times on the door. The woman running the sshop was from Spain

Anyway thanks or the response. Its giene me a lot to think about and plan properly

Just book your own holiday so you only have yourself to blame next time.

This way you can book the hotel you like to stay in, research where to go eat and what will be open. Don't blame the business, every country has its own culture.

These are called excuses.

Everything is wrong. You’ve not been polite - no ooh that looks good but blah blah. You bitch and moan, get the wrong end of the stick. You need to understand that there’s only so much glass half empty people can take.

Anyway, good luck. I’m off

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 16/01/2023 06:42

Well if you wanna go, you'll have to go alone as no one wants to go with you. You've been negative about all suggestions.

milkysmum · 16/01/2023 06:49

Everytime someone suggests something you shoot them down. You sound very negative. People are just trying to help.
