How much will you spend on holidays in 2023?

Just starting to plan for holidays for next year!

I'm hoping to keep things under 3k for flights, accomodation and car rental for a couple weeks for a family of 3. We also have a campervan so we go for a lot of weekends away in that but any cost just comes out of our weekly spending money. Last year we had 3 holidays and spent roughly 14k, I don't feel great about it after adding it all up so I'm really looking to cut back this year!

Just curious what other people plan to spend if anyone is happy to share. Any holiday ninjas out there that manage to have amazing holidays on a budget?

I booked our summer holiday last night for just under 1k flights and accommodation for 10 days in July. We staying in a bungalow at a campsite outside Rome. Hoping that we will have just as good a time on a fraction of what we usually spend!

Don't swallow it wholesale, a lot of it is fantasy.

£6000 on a 2 week Europe beach holiday AI for 4, UK break for 7 and Europe City break for 2.

10 year wedding anniversary and maybe will spend £2000 on a holiday for that but undecided. I can do overtime shifts so I decide what I need and work the shifts I need to get the money needed for things like this.

Have you ever looked at companies that offer trips such as Audley, Scott and Dunn, Steppes- I could go on. They all survive. I’ve looked at Audley accounts online and their turnover is HUGE (10’s of millions). Plenty of people spend big on holidays.

I think the sarcastic posts are easier to pick out, but those without uplifting info less easy.

We are hiring a yacht, skiing, family trip with GP’s, it soon adds up.

I think the idea that this is fantasy is interesting. Beyond the £250k ever other figure is easily believable. Lots of people go on multiple holidays a year and holidays aren't cheap.

I prioritise travel now in a way I didn't pre-pandemic. Previously one or two holidays a year would have been sufficient. Covid has put travel into a different light for me now. This year I've had 9 holidays I don't see 2023 as being any different. Spending about £25k on 9 holidays isn't that much money per holiday.

Its funny because i see the odd thread on designer brands pop up, in the style and beauty section. I NEVER seen someone moaning that people are spending 500 quid on a handbag when there are people choosing betweeen heating and eating

But on threads about housing, holidays, private schools, you name it, someone will come up and say its either unbelievable that people have that sort of money or that its in bad taste to ask about it.

I'm not sure why it's unbelievable just because it's more than other have as a budget.

Years ago when I couldn't have afforded these holidays (nursery fees, lower income etc) I wouldn't have thought others were posting fantasies.

Around 20k.

2 holidays for a family of 5 in the first half of the year; 10 nights in Cape Verde, 7 nights in Majorca.
2 holidays for a family of 6 later in the year; both a week in Europe.

Two trips booked so far costing 9k in total. Will probably book another one with a budget of around 4k.

A 10 day UK holiday in summer is costing around £1.5k.

Weekend away for my birthday in April will cost less than £200.

I think we will probably do another trip away at the end of summer or in October, a few hundred pounds max.

Next year we will hopefully go abroad and our budget for that will be around £3.5k for a weekish.

Why would most of it be fantasy? The £250k thing is clearly a piss take, but can you not grasp that people have different incomes? The begrudgery and grievance on here is tiresome.

I have seen that. Cries of ‘why would you spend that???!’; ‘I could buy a car with that’. I suspect there is a cohort of posters on here who go on patrol, descend on certain threads just to upbraid people because of their discretionary spendings. They’re berks.

They are boring. They are everywhere. I work with a few and it's tedious.

Bloody loads. Not had more than a couple of days away at a time, since before the apocalypse began. Had to postpone my planned break in December due to caring then bereavement.

I'm going to go absolutely wild.

Isn’t it just! If you aren’t all sharing one lettuce leaf a day between 11 and having your heating on 45 minutes a month then it’s fair game to slate you. Ridiculous.

The people that are getting upset about the prices people are paying out for hols .if you have two good wages coming in go enjoy yourselves, me I enjoy myself stopping at home, I take everything that’s posted on here with a big pinch of salt, but for those genuine posts that have the money to do it, you obviously work hard you’ve earned it, go fill ya boots 🤪

At the minute we have:

• Long weekend in Porto over Easter £500
• Florence trip using free amex BA flights £1500
• 10 days in Jersey £2000
• DS South Africa School rugby trip £3000
• probably a week in Madeira in Oct £1500
• Possibly a UK weekend or two

So around £10k which feels like quite a lot now I add it up

There was a thread once about someone who was spending a lot on a handbag, in the style and beauty section and it was suggested she buy a bench😂

. 600 pound - all booked butlins minehead. Includes a dine around package (breakfast and dinner) in any of the resteraunts. So don’t expect to spend much when there.😀
