Just wondering what people are booking and at what price? If anyones found any real bargains!

Today I have booked..

10 nights in the Balearic Islands.
hotel is beach front and it includes bed and breakfast at £1,845
flights for 2 adult, 2 children is £855 via easyJet.
Going in July 2 days before schools break up so flights were still a bit high but not as much as a few days later.
so approx 2.7K

I didn’t think it was too bad as a school mum told me they are paying 6k to go to Spain next year! They have 1 extra child though!

Would love to book something really cheap in aug but I doubt that will happen!

Can't you read?

There are people on here smugly bragging about how much money they spend on holidays and yet there are many other threads on here where posters can't afford to pay their bills or put food on the table.

Still, comparison is the thief of joy and all that.

And so what?

Some people have money, some don’t. It’s life. Get off the holiday section if you are going to cry about it.

No ones bragging about how much they will spend…. They were asked! Fair play to the people that can afford it and if people are lying then so what.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/11/2022 14:23

As has been stated it’s the HOLIDAY thread, not a cost of living thread. I can read, thank you. Are you deliberately being so obtuse?

If people on here are lying (likely, including you) then it's not reflective of real life. Might as well go and read a fairy tale book.

Are you normally so precious?

Yes, I know it is the HOLIDAY thread thank you.

You yourself are being rather obtuse.

This gives me hope! We want to do Florida in 2025 and I'd been expecting it to be nearer £10k

We went to Disney/universal and discovery cove, sea world etc this year in May/June for 23 days and the trip cost us just over 8.5k.

Not including any food or spending money.

flights were about £1,550 return.
universal hotel was Aventura and was about a grand for the 9 nights.
we stayed at all stars for 2 weeks with tickets which was £3,420 and we got $500 Disney dining credits back.
univeral tickets/discovery cove/sea world tickets were approx 1.8k

we also plan to go back in 2025 or 2026!! I’m hoping il be able to get it for 10k then as they will have the new universal epic universe by then (fingers crossed).

Nah and I have no reason to lie either 😂

FFS. Stop booking your hols people, others get the tit on about it. You must not spend anymore than a fiver on a second hand sleeping bag in Skegness.

I'll spend what I want on my holidays and I won't hide it either. I've earned it, it's not on the tick and all my bills are paid. I'm not 'smugly' bragging about it, we're discussing it between like minded people. Unless you come and actually read the thread then you wouldn't know it was there. So why bother? Those that have spent more are not belittling those that have spent less.

You know that travel keeps people in work don't you? It's a much needed industry for the economy or would you prefer those working in travel to lose their jobs because no one can go?

£400....end of march....Kaleici, antalyla.....4 half board, Oct is Olu deniz...4 half board....£450....also booked flights to riga....£24 return, barcelona....£30 return...early retired teacher here...always love summer here in the uk and stay home and travel when prices are rock bottom plus always have some dentistry done while in turkey...!!...always encounter a few parents who have taken child out of school a bit early to get a good deal....why not...!!

Iv been to Olu Deniz a couple of times with my family years ago. It was a lovely holiday.

RedRiverShore2 · 05/11/2022 14:33

Why are these people on a holiday thread, there are loads of competitive coldness threads to whinge on.

We will be going on holiday in our touring caravan s few times and will book an overseas holiday next year, we don't have to book early as we are retired so not sure how much we will spend but have money saved from only being able to go away in the caravan during Covid, probably up to about £5k

elm26 · 05/11/2022 14:33

It genuinely blows my mind that people pay £4k+ to go to places like Spain.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/11/2022 14:34

Who cares if people are making it up? It’s the internet. I could a a hairy- toed Sri Lankan fisherman for all you know...

elm26 · 05/11/2022 14:35

Also, £11k to Florida???? Stay an hour outside Orlando (which I prefer as I've found Orlando to be a shithole every time I go) and the total holiday will come to half of that. Crazy to me.

green82 · 05/11/2022 14:48

@elm26 we priced up a villa and it was exactly the same cost. By the time we would have paid parking and car hire (which has gone up astronomically), and discounted the $600 Disney dollars in the offer it made little difference. Admittedly didn't look an hour away but we wouldn't have wanted to spend 2 hours a day driving. We've also paid for upgraded Universal hotel in order to express tickets. £3000 is food budget because of how much prices have gone up over there (admittedly probably could save here in a Villa). Few years ago this holiday was going to cost us £8000 but it's a different world post Covid.

Not sure if you've priced it up recently but if you're talking theme parks you will not get it for a family of 4 for £5500 all in, theme park tickets alone are £3400 and you can't make savings there, even cheap flights will be £1600 minimum (for 4).

grayhairdontcare · 05/11/2022 14:55

£1200 for the 2 of us.
B&B in Crete next September

Half of my family live between Miami and Orlando, it's been my second home since I was born and I can 100% promise you, you can do it so much cheaper if you stay outside of Orlando.

I get that people don't want to do 2 hours in the car with kids every day but I genuinely don't understand how people can spend more than 5/6 days on all the parks anyway so that would only be half the holiday days. 2 hours isn't really much driving out there especially split into 2.

I didn't mean to come across rude just kind of disbelief that people pay this much, maybe because I'm used to it out there.

Hope you have a great time anyway, you will love it!

Withnoshoes · 05/11/2022 15:09

Wow some of these holidays are amazing. Also some cost my yearly take home 😂

Next year we hope to do a spa hotel in the lakes in maybe March as a treat. Belfast is looking likely and we always go to the lakes or maybe Scotland. Hoping to do a Norway adventure on 2024 including Fjords and Oslo. So saving already. Holidays have become very expensive!

green82 · 05/11/2022 15:20

@elm26 we go to the US often, have done road trips in several states, we are not averse to driving. But we are going to Orlando for the theme parks, we want to do Disney and universal, non negotiable. Staying on site gives you early access, we can go back to hotel in afternoon to go back at night for fireworks and shorter queues, it would not be the same experience an hour away. £3400 in tickets, flights were £1800 (which is good for school holidays) so we're at £5200 before even looking at food and accommodation. You can't do the theme parks for £5500 now, you just can't (family of 4). Other things in Florida of course, but you can't do the theme parks in 5/6 days, there are 9 parks across Disney and Universal alone!

Whether the theme parks are your thing or not is down to taste isn't it, plenty of holidays aren't to my taste but we all get to choose how to spend our money

This thread is disgusting and probably full of liars and fantasists, but if half of it is true then it goes to show how much the gap is widening between the haves and have not.

I've just priced up Disney on their website. Using the cheapest flight and hotel options for 10 days in summer school Holidays. Family of 4. It's just over £7,000 plus food, drink and spending money. So I'd guess you're looking at £9,000 minimum.

Are you suggesting that Disney is full of imaginary people as according to you everyone is lying.

I don't quite understand why you think everyone is lying about going on holiday.

Clearly there are people who have money to spend on holidays. I haven't seen a single bragging post, just answers to OP's question of how much they are spending.

I expect vast majority of people are delighted to be going on holiday and realise how fortunate they are. I know I do. I grew up going on basic holidays in the UK. Now I can afford to fly long haul & stay in. 5* hotels several times a year. I'm Very grateful.

Did I say that….

I just said I have no reason to lie. Considering I said I’m going to Spain and a few caravan holidays next year, it’s not exactly bigging myself up.

but to keeping moaning about what people spend on their holidays on the holiday thread is bizarre.

If you are going for Disney and universal then most people don’t want to stay outside of Orlando.

Why would I want to waste 2 hours in a car everyday with 2 kids. That’s loads of driving when I can literally step out a hotel and get into a park without 10 mins.

Its different if you have family out there but most people visiting don’t.

It’s a different section. If a member is struggling, why would they come to the holiday section and read posts about other people’s holidays? I’m not rich, nor poor thankfully (I do feel for those struggling, give to charity & campaign politically for a fairer society). I have some savings and experiences are more important to me that consuming more stuff.

£480 for four nights in a gorgeous log cabin in Wales with hot tub (stayed last year and it's lovely). £1500 for a week self catering in crete. 2 adults and 2 teens. That includes flights with seats booked, baggage, hotel and transfers on 4 July. Dds break up early as they are at college now.
