Tui or Jet2?

TheMindfulMum · 03/09/2022 21:02

Just wondered if there was a lean towards either Tui or Jet2 when booking a package holiday for a young family?

Cost is a big factor for us shortly followed by support at the resort should anything go wrong (accident/illness/issues with the hotel when there). I know Tui often say they have a rep at resorts, is the same true for Jet2 or are they purely an online booking company and after that you’re on your own once on holiday?

Any other pros or cons for either would be gratefully received. Looking for next year for our first family holiday abroad with two young children and it’s all a bit overwhelming 🙈

At least if I can start off by narrowing down who to book through I can focus my research on either of their websites.

Jet2 all the way and you get more luggage allowance

Hoppinggreen · 04/09/2022 20:38

My friend is an independent travel agent and she said that when Covid was causing difficulties Jet2 was the best company for refunds etc

I flew Jet2 in june to majorca , highly recommend, no queues at the airport , smooth and speedy check in loads of reps the other side , I've flown loads and will always gravitate to Jet2

We booked with Tui this year. We realised before they did, seventeen days before our holiday, that Virgin Airlines had cancelled the outbound flight. We had to push to get booked onto a new flight later that day (after I had checked Virgin's website and found that there were seats available on several later flights the same day) rather than have our holiday cancelled which, along with being told we had to pay £3000 more for the same holiday on different dates, was Tui's response. The people in the local shop were unable to answer most of our questions and repeatedly said "the third party team are dealing with this" but would not phone the third party team while we were in the shop. I felt that communication was very poor and not consistent. We will not be booking with Tui again.

Jet2 tends to have rubbish flight times from our local airport so we use TUI.

TinaTotal · 04/09/2022 21:09

I've used Jet2 loads and really like them. Luckily they added my nearest airport this year too so I don't have drive 200 miles to an airport now 🤣

Amazingly help info here. Thank you so much. When I was looking at Tui holiday earlier this year (still for next year) the flight times weren't great. With two young children it is a factor and I hadn't considered switching airlines might improve things here (spot the person who doesn't holiday much!!) Thanks again 💜

100% jet 2

I hate tui

Mosso · 04/09/2022 23:23

Jet2 are always a lot more expensive from my local airport than TUI. No idea why but the exact same hotel was £159 more per person with them when I was looking earlier for Majorca

Mosso · 04/09/2022 23:24

Also Jet2 flights were very early morning. By the time you take off the checking in time and driving to the airport you'd have to get up at 2am to be there on time which isn't ideal with kids.

Sorrynotsorry2 · 04/09/2022 23:27

Im in spain now . Package holiday with jet2. Would definitely book with them again . Booked a private transfer with them and they were there ready and waiting when we got to the airport . No trouble at all.

They also do pm departures. The planes generally do a morning and
afternoon/evening rotation. Not sure the latter is any better Tbh. But all the holiday charters do this not just jet 2.

Aposterhasnoname · 05/09/2022 09:40

We’ve been TUI customers for 20 years, but recently went with jet 2 as TUI dates didn’t suit, and what a revelation. Won’t touch TUI for short haul now, jet 2 all the way. Just wish they did long haul holidays.

PooWeeBum · 05/09/2022 09:50

We use Jet2 for package villa holidays, with car hire so not had any experiences using a rep for customer service needs, the only Jet2 people we see on holiday are the flight attendants.

We did have one issue where our flight was delayed and our car hire place was closed, but was able to sort it via the uk customer service helpline and received compensation too.

A couple of friends have recently used TUI and not had the best customer service when things have gone wrong

Whammyyammy · 06/09/2022 15:17

100% Jet2, Tui are just awful now

Brendabigbaps · 06/09/2022 15:34

Jet2.
we’ve done packages with both. No sign of tui reps, jet2 rep appeared a couple of times during the week at scheduled points. Both canarie holidays.

jet2 are also a better company to deal with, throughout covid they refunded people immediately, etc.

34and3 · 11/02/2023 17:05

We've always gone tui but have just booked our first jet2 for July. I was a bit nervous doing something different but sounds like a great choice considering these replies!

SnarkyBag · 11/02/2023 17:12

Have done two Jet 2 package holidays and they were spot on for both. They seem to have loads of staff at the airports either side pointing you in the right direction, transfers were good, no daily rep but we were in a less typically tourist part of the Algarve we just got a text saying they’d be at the hotel for an hour on certain days (didn’t need them anyway). Check in at airport was well run and they let us put our cabin bags in the hold too which is always a bonus for me.

Fairysilver · 11/02/2023 18:38

Just back from a Jet2 holiday, probably used them a dozen times.
They have always been spot on. One holiday we had a medical crisis and they were very helpfu.
All done via App. I believe there was a rep visit hotel but I don't usually bother with that.

ChungusBoi · 11/02/2023 18:41

Jet2 have their own ground staff so are less prone to airport disruption, but their holidays were significantly more expensive last summer.

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 11/02/2023 18:44

Jet2 every time

FizzyStream · 11/02/2023 18:46

Much prefer jet2 but that bloody song drives me mad. Do they still play it on the planes?

whytesnow · 11/02/2023 19:25

Jet 2 by far!! I love there 22 kg I had a promblrn with tui last year the hotel we booked went viral on social media saying the staff were breaking into rooms then denying it tui did nothing so me and 2 friends ended up not going we lost out on 1200 between us

karamazing · 11/02/2023 19:30

Wheat is the legroom like on Jet2 for tall people? I don't understand the large bag charges. Do you get an overall reduction on the package price if you don't want to check-in bags.

Teebles007 · 11/02/2023 19:33

I wouldn't fly jet 2 as they use Stansted airport which is an absolute no. TUI use Gatwick which is easy to get to from the South as well as Bournemouth airport. I guess it depends where you live.
