Tui or Jet2?

Just wondered if there was a lean towards either Tui or Jet2 when booking a package holiday for a young family?

Cost is a big factor for us shortly followed by support at the resort should anything go wrong (accident/illness/issues with the hotel when there). I know Tui often say they have a rep at resorts, is the same true for Jet2 or are they purely an online booking company and after that you’re on your own once on holiday?

Any other pros or cons for either would be gratefully received. Looking for next year for our first family holiday abroad with two young children and it’s all a bit overwhelming 🙈

At least if I can start off by narrowing down who to book through I can focus my research on either of their websites.

My preference is for Jet2, they are very reliable. Always been very happy with them.

During the summer disruption they had far less cancellations than other airlines like Tui. Often Tui sub contract parts of the service which can cause issues.

I'd have always said TUI but we've recently had a trip where there was no English speaking TUI rep to be seen, and we were definitely in a resort aimed at young families. All the info was in German.

We did actually have an issue and also a query and there was no support - the issue didn't get resolved during our trip and I'd consider it something important. I ended up approaching the German TUI rep in the end for the query, who was lovely.

TUI now try to compensate for lack of human contact by spamming you with emails during your stay and plugging their glitchy app.

I'm going to look at jet2 next time, as that seems to get recommended a lot and at first glance is cheaper. Otherwise you may as well go EasyJet holidays and appreciate you're not getting anything other than flights and hotels.

@Invisimamma - am I right in thinking no Jet2 rep at resorts on Jet2 holidays?

@whirlyswirly thanks so much for your feedback. The moral of the story is don't assume the rep present means easy sailings!

There are usually discount codes available for jet2 holidays on their app 60.00 off per holiday is the usual one plus 10.00 a person if you do bid for a break . There is also 65.00 a booking with lidl app on partner offers at the moment

Every resort will be different.dependong on the popularity and jet2 staffing in the area.

We went with Jet2 in June and our rep was responsible for a few hotels and had a couple of days a week in each with specific drop-in hours. We had a mobile number for them if we needed to contact them at other times and they sent a few text messages about welcome meetings etc. But we didn't need to use them.

We used Jet2. There was a Jet2 rep in our hotel for an hour a day. Flights etc all smooth running. Can definitely recommend

Both Jet2 and Tui have reps at resorts. They have set times when they sit in the hotel lounge and you can consult them/book excursions etc. Tui generally put a note under the bedroom door inviting you to a welcome meeting.

PS compare like for like between them. JET2 seem to cost less than Tui.

Jet2 were brilliant for us recently. TUI and easyJet flights were cancelled all over the departure boards but no issues with jet2.

I've always used TUI... because my aunt and mum did so it's what I'm familiar with. TUI do a single parent discount and they have TUI NHS holiday heroes too.

I have thought about Jet2 and Easyjet as someone told me with easy jet you can cancel your holiday upto 28 days before. So if your holiday dropped £££ in price you could cancel and rebook.

From a Rep point of view.... TUI also have someone on the app who you can message. I flew in June and I only saw the rep on the day of my flight leaving and she had no info "apparently" about the delays in the airport.

Went with jet 2 this summer. Def lots of reps at destinations (dozens at Faro airport) and in most of the hotels but none in ours nor could we contact one which I thought was a bit shit. We were (deliberately) staying a bit out of the way but I was surprised we were given only a 0113 (Leeds!) number to contact which put you on hold for ages

that said we had a good value hol with no major issues.

in the larger resorts there are def reps about.

Jet2 by a country mile, I'd wouldn't touch TUI with a bargepole. I've worked in travel for 25 years and if I'm booking a package for myself I'm using Jet2.

Jet2 do have reps that visit in popular places and normally someone available on the phone or in a nearby hotel if it's a quieter place which is what we tend to choose. We did have a rep this year though who was present and also texted up information and contact details. Don't get hung up on reps though, take responsibility and buy good quality insurance the minute you book and alps order GHICs.

We went with jet2 in may and have to say was impressed the plane went on time pick up at the airport other end and going back was very efficient and our rep was in the hotel twice a week at certain times and a phone number if we needed her other times and the hotel was everything it had been described as, not been on a tui holiday so cant tell on theirs

It depends where you're flying from as Jet2 only use certain airports.
I'm lazy so will only fly from my nearest airport which Jet2 don't use.

Depends where you want to fly from. If you're London it's Stanstead for jet2 and it's a pain in the arse for us so we do Tui from Gatwick. You can also shove a low deposit down on tui and pay as and when where as jet2 is dd fixed amounts if you don't pay in full.

Thanks everyone, some really helpful and interesting points. It seems that Jet2 are the favourites. My gut was telling me that, I was just a bit nervous about them being an "online" agent and was a bit concerned about the faceless-ness of it. But, if they're the most competitive cost wise, have reps and other bonuses like discount codes then they seem to tick lots of boxes.

As a pp, I've always used Tui (as did all my family) and never had an issue.
That said, I've not travelled with them since 2018.
And I've read all the post Covid issues, the Which articles, etc which definitely point to Jet2 having better customer service when things go wrong. My cousin has used Jet2 as he's East Midlands, for years, and says they'd never use anyone else.
I'm definitely thinking of looking through their website over the next month or so for next summer.
I saw you can pay monthly as well, though you can possibly do that with Tui now as well.
I think the days of a rep always on hand are dying out tbh, the last times I went with Tui the hotels had a rep available a couple of hours a week. I think with electronic communication and people not needing to have their hands held abroad as much as a couple of decades ago, we'll see fewer and fewer reps on site.

im just back from a holiday using tui and never had a problem, there was a rep at the hotel everyday if needed
last used jet2 in 2019 and never had a problem with them either
to me its cost and flight times that can swing between either company, i only went with tui this time as jet2 didnt go to my destination

Jet2 have reps. We've never had a bad holiday with them and have done package and flights only.

Jet2 just home with them amazing airline and staff

We lost bag with insulin in it and then couldn't do enough to retrieve it and we got it next day

Have been flying with jet2 8 years even when pandemic hit they where very quick to reschedule holiday then when that was cancelled they refunded next day

There were no Jet2 reps to be seen at my hotel this year in Tenerife.

Have you looked at EasyJet holidays? They do package deals and are sometimes cheaper than Jet2 and Tui. They are ABTA and ATOL protected.

We always use Tui as Jet2 don't fly from our local airport. No issues in last 25 plus years.
