It's a bit too hot in Spain....where to go in 2023??

So, currently on day 8 of a 10 day all inclusive in Spain. It's hot. So hot the kids don't want to leave the complex which I get. It's also making my eldest a bit grumpy. She's happy in the pool but in all honestly I'm getting cabin fever and I think they are getting a bit bored.
Next year we were thinking of going to the vendee area for 14 nights. We did it in 2019 and we had the most amazing hol. Temp was around 28 degrees & we had the car so we could travel to beaches etc. However, I notice that Vendee is a similar temp to Spain (37degrees) this year so it could possibly cause similar problems

So, my query is this.....where should we consider for next august that will be a little cooler to allow us to explore & will be sunny but not baking hot. Happy to fly or drive. Maybe northern France but I have bad childhood memories of holidays in the rain in Brittany! Austria? Any amazing gems appreciated.

Do you not think the problem is the heatwave, rather than it being that particular location??

KangarooKenny · 13/08/2022 14:36

It’s usually breezy in the Canaries.

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 14:38

@WinterMusings yes potentially but is this a sign of things to come? I guess it's difficult to predict based on one year isn't it.

UK is lovely this tome of year 😬 maybe go away for sunshine over xmas instead?

Or if you need to go in summer, do mountains and lakes its much cooler up there. Lake Garda, Alps, etc.

I was in Lake Garda last week and it was around 32 all week 🤷🏼‍♀️

@For yes we always do a U.K. hol at some point. To be honest I think the kids would be complaining at the heat at home at the moment too. At least they have the pools here.

Try Bavaria
Our teens love it.
It can get up to 30 but is more often 25 in August and there are lots of lovely lakes to cool down in. Plus it tends to rain at night so much fresher and if it does get too hot you can go up into the mountains

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 15:43

I wonder if it's just a sign of things to come. Maybe do a sunshine break in May & U.K. in august. We are restricted to school hols and my eldest only gets a week in May

Brittany has been around 32 to 35 this week but you do have lots of beaches.

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 15:44

@Hoppinggreen thank you. I'll take a look. That's somewhere I'd never even think off
I'm wondering if doing the last 2 weeks of august might be a bit better temp wise too

Come to Corfu it’s been raining here today.

Maëlys · 13/08/2022 15:49

Norway? I’ve never been but it looks beautiful.

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 15:49

@notangelinajolie what are the temps like?

BunsyGirl · 13/08/2022 15:50

People have mentioned the Alps but it’s regularly over 30 during the summer in the area of that French alps that my family live in and it’s gone up to 40 at times this summer.

Afterfire · 13/08/2022 15:51

Anywhere canaries seems to be around 25-28 most of the year, with a wind.

I do think Europe is changing with the climate change though and lots of places will be scorching 🥵 in August from now on.

Maybe consider something like a Scandinavian type trip or pick earlier in the year to go away.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 13/08/2022 15:51

Yes do keep flying. That will really help with the extreme heat. Honestly the cognitive dissonance is baffling.

notangelinajolie · 13/08/2022 15:52

Low to mid 30’s this past week. So not the massive heatwave that’s been hitting Western Europe.

Panicmode1 · 13/08/2022 15:53

We usually go to the Dordogne but this year fancied a change and went to Spain. Our original accommodation was damaged in the wildfires so we had to find something else at very short notice and ended up just south of Valencia - it was 37 degrees most days and I was super glad of the a/c!

It has been c. 35 in the Dordogne before, and is usually up around 30 at this time of year anyway - equally we have had the odd week when it's rained...! We've also had a couple of hot summers in Brittany and the Vendee (I nannied there in the early 90s for a summer and it was HOT even then) - but I think that this very hot weather is just what we are going to have to get used to.

BunsyGirl · 13/08/2022 15:53

San Diego it my favourite place for the summer holidays. Lots to do and always much cooler in the evenings due to the dry desert heat.

huuskymam · 13/08/2022 15:54

I always do a holiday at home during the summer, and some where foreign around October/November. Much prefer getting a bit of sun when at home is cold and rainy.

Center parcs in Netherlands. Much better than UK ones

Bulgaria always seems cooler but I worry about the pools being cold.
