Feel like I’ve been mugged

Arrived last evening with family for our first holiday in a very very long time, which I have spent over 10k on with an reputable company and it is not remotely what I was expecting 50 meters from A road on one side, no soundproofing, shabby exterior. I understand it’s busy and high summer but I feel cheated.

They have a changeover day tomorrow and I’ve asked that we are moved at that point (that I need to see the accommodation beforehand so that I know it’s worth moving).

I will complain to the holding company - with photos etc - on return, I will copy in the CEO. And will ask for a proportion of our money to be refunded. One more bit of admin drag. But it is outrageous that this seems so pervasive - what a joke.

Please complain while you are there. Don't wait until you get home.

leccybill · 03/08/2022 04:17

Which island are you on?

pigcon1 · 03/08/2022 04:46

Thanks. I have complained twice, the first time with fury. I spoke to the management again yesterday and reconfirmed I would like to move.

Sorry but I think you've paid ridiculous money to stay on a complex with a shared bathroom.. we stayed in a 5 bed villa in corfu for much less.

This

I am struggling to understand how anyone would pay £2,250 per person for a week’s holiday with shared bathroom facilities. It makes no sense and something is not quite right.

pigcon1 · 03/08/2022 08:22

Yes. The shared toilet is in the reception of the main complex not in our room.

Fingers crossed you move today. How exhausting and stressful having to deal with this on holiday

pigcon1 · 03/08/2022 08:29

The update is there is a family room in the same annex or a small twin which we could have use of during the day (not big enough to fit us at night).

So no change, but I have much appreciated all the thoughts and encouragement here. I will pick up with the customer services on return. And be much more aware of what I pay for as and when I book a holiday again.

So annoyed on your behalf. What a way to treat people. Hope you can enjoy the final days in spite of this

pigcon1 · 03/08/2022 08:35

Thank you @firefly123 and everyone else who has been so supportive.

£10k for a hol to Greece- flipping heck, OP! Are you trying to get rid of some dirty money or something?! 😉 That’d be a great deposit for a flat up north- hint hint!

I can only dream of that kind of money to spunk up the wall. Then again, I’m saving for a rhinoplasty so you could say I’m just as crazy!!

LittlePickleHead · 03/08/2022 09:05

I think a lot of people haven't been on an AI holiday for a while - the prices have gone up loads! We paid £8k in Greece over May half term for 4 - that's was IKOS though so was outstanding. But that holiday would be more like £15k in the summer!

CombatBarbie · 03/08/2022 09:14

10k for 4 people in Greece! I'd be expecting alot for that kind of money!!!

mycatisannoying · 03/08/2022 09:18

Oh, fuck off with annoying people commenting meaninglessly on the price. How in any way does that help the OP?

leccybill · 03/08/2022 11:53

£10k though 😮

We stayed a week in August at Stella Palace last year, 3 of us, all inclusive. Thought to be one of the best quality hotels in Greece in terms of service, food, facilities (I would agree, it's brilliant).
That was £2700!

It's literally the title of the thread 😂

OP felt like she was mugged and posters are confirming and encouraging her to to steps to claim some of it back.

Have you checked out the same holiday this year tho @leccybill

Holidays have increased significantly.

We usually go to Croatia. Very smart hotel, B&B - as I prefer to eat out at night - price increased from £2,900 for a week for two in 2019 to £5,200 this year. We didn’t go!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/08/2022 18:24

I've just checked a holiday to Crete I went on four years ago and it was the same

The same price as four years ago or the same as op is paying?

They have added a huge new aquapark and people have got wind of how good it is so I'm not surprised!
We love Croatia too, had a few bargain holidays there.

Midliffey · 03/08/2022 22:03

Yes please to holiday recommendations x

Why do people insist on commenting on what people spend? You can spend 1k or 100k on a holiday, get over it and stick to the point!

This is one of the silliest responses I've seen.

It's pretty relevant if you are unhappy where you are staying!! If it's a cheap and cheerful last minute deal you will forgive a lot more than if it's cost a fortune once in a lifetime holiday.

shinynewapple22 · 03/08/2022 22:41

Sorry to hear all this OP - it must be awful to spend out this sort of money and end up with somewhere mediocre.

Johnnysgirl · 03/08/2022 22:46

Of course op is pissed off dropping £10k for a week she's not particularly enjoying, who wouldn't be?

prepared101 · 04/08/2022 06:19

I'm guessing this is Santorini for that price.

Sorry you're disappointed OP but £2.5k each for a week is extortion and there are other, clearly luxurious, options out there for that price. Did you book on a whim!?

whynotwhatknot · 15/08/2022 19:06

whe4re is this place did you get anywhere with themop
