Feel like I’ve been mugged

Arrived last evening with family for our first holiday in a very very long time, which I have spent over 10k on with an reputable company and it is not remotely what I was expecting 50 meters from A road on one side, no soundproofing, shabby exterior. I understand it’s busy and high summer but I feel cheated.

Ooh. Could you pm me the hotel please

Dartmoorcheffy · 31/07/2022 16:28

Sorry but I think you've paid ridiculous money to stay on a complex with a shared bathroom.. we stayed in a 5 bed villa in corfu for much less.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 31/07/2022 16:29

@MissyB1 - that looks beautiful! Already having a look for next year!

pigcon1 · 31/07/2022 16:31

Thanks. It’s not a shared bathroom, because we are in an annex I used the reception toilets in the main area.

we have a small shower room en suite.

Who did you book with? Rather than the Rep in the actual hotel, who invariably does nothing, can you complain and ask to move, with TUI or On-the-Beach or whoever you booked with?

TreacheryPepper · 31/07/2022 16:34

Do people really spend ten grand ona holiday?

MarshaBradyo · 31/07/2022 16:35

Are the other rooms nicer or is it the whole resort that’s poor?

pigcon1 · 31/07/2022 16:35

Yep - I don’t have a pool at home and someone else is cooking half board. But as you say my expectations..

I hope it is all inclusive! I only spent 6k going to Maldives for 4 in 2019

pigcon1 · 31/07/2022 16:36

Apparently so

Other areas better, we are in the second tier spot.

was the brochure though promising things that you have not got? thats the issue?

did the room you booked correspond with what the brochure or website promised?

MissyB1 · 31/07/2022 16:49

MarneyM · 31/07/2022 16:16

@MissyB1
The hotel link you posted - looks lovely - can you walk to anywhere outside of the hotel - daytime and nighttime for evening meals - or is this very much a hotel based holiday?

@MarneyM
there is a village called Panormas 10 minutes walk from the hotel. It has tavernas, a supermarket, and it’s own beach, we had a few lunches there. You can also catch the bus from outside the hotel to Skopelos town. We enjoyed doing that.

The hotel also has paddle boarding, sailing and scuba diving lessons.

EwwSprouts · 31/07/2022 16:59

You've said you booked with a reputable company. Putting you in second tier accommodation is not okay unless that was clear at the time of booking. Take screenshots of the advertising now if it still reads the same/same photos.

lechatnoir · 31/07/2022 17:20

So 10k and you've only got one room or is it meant to be a family apartment? I'll be camping out in reception making a very loud noise until they found alternative accommodation

LIZS · 31/07/2022 17:37

If the tour operator has misrepresented what you believed you were booking complain, loudly and often to the rep then head office while you are there. Screenshot the webpage that you booked on the basis of. However it is not uncommon for photos to show upgraded rooms for which a supplement applies (with tiny disclaimers to that effect) and the TO standard offer to be less spacious and luxurious or in an annexe. If you know the changeover days ask to move room at the first opportunity.

If the price is so high because there are lots of activities make sure all four of you use them!

pigcon1 · 31/07/2022 19:27

We will

How's it going OP? Hope holiday getting better

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/08/2022 21:57

We went to Crete four years ago and that was £5k for a week for 3 of us. Spent 2.5k on on holiday in corfu this year and getting a bit worried now

whynotwhatknot · 01/08/2022 23:13

im a bit cinfuused dont you have your own toilet-and is this a villa type place

pigcon1 · 02/08/2022 07:35

Thanks for asking. The kids are much more into it. The club for them and activities are good the food is good. I just feel cross about the accommodation and I am not going to get past that as as soon as I see it I see the shoddiness.
