Thought I'd get in early. Booked flights yesterday for July next year as I need something to look forward to!

Started putting together a holiday in Africa for September ’23. I have booked the hotel we want at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and 3 nights on the Zambezi Queen on the Chobe River, as they both have a small number of rooms and I don’t want to risk them not being available. The flights then are not yet available. I’ll add those in in due course.

CaptainTroy · 22/07/2022 22:54

Yes, 5-star in Mauritius in May.

BritWifeInUSA · 23/07/2022 05:41

We have booked 2 for next year (Argentina and Finland) and a cruise around Hawaii for 2024.

Workyticket · 23/07/2022 05:52

Not yet but I'm looking!

We're on holiday now in Turkey 🌞

ginsparkles · 23/07/2022 06:00

We have! Italy at Easter and a cottage in the Lake District in august.

PurBal · 23/07/2022 06:05

Yes. No way we were going to risk this year. But we might have to cancel as we chose an inaccessible rural villa and the cost of car hire will probably double or triple the holiday 😞

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/07/2022 06:19

Thinking about this a lot but am so depressed about the current chaotic travel situation that I'm not sure what to do about next year.

We were supposed to fly to Italy last weekend and stay in an air b&b we had booked. We always arrange our holidays in this way. Always have fabulous and relaxing holidays by organising it this way.

This year EasyJet cancelled our flight two days before we were due to fly. We hastily booked another flight with Wizz air on a different day as Easy Jet had no flights available until 4 days before we were due to fly home.

Was ready to leave for the airport when we got a text telling us the flight had been cancelled. Could not find another flight. Lost 50% of the cost of the air b&b.

Insurance company warning us they may not pay out because the airline didn't follow correct protocol ( wizzair even refused us a cash refund so we had to get out bank to do a charge back)

No longer feel confident booking flights and accommodation separately if insurance won't cover flight cancellations and airlines won't provide the consumer rights we are entitled to.

Booked a last min package holiday at al all inc resort because we couldn't face losing anymore money if flights cancelled again. I hate all inc resorts.

Currently sat on my sun bed at 7am because if you don't get down then there are none left for the rest of the day ( many of them say empty for hours after being reserved)
Christ knows what time the people who bagged the beach beds get up ( no sign of any of them!) There will be the 9am stampede for limited parasols and then at 6pm the staff come and take them back even though the sun is still burning down.

Had to say no to a women who arrived in the middle of the day and was begging everyone for a sun bed for her baby. Felt awful but my daughter is on drugs that make her highly sensitive to the sun.

Food is barely adequate and only the lager is drinkable. We paid £3900 for a week for four of us and are going off to the local town for better food and G&T that actually tastes like G&T.

We thought me might book a villa in France for next year and then we see the chaos at Dover.

Thoroughly depressing situation.

LibbyL92 · 23/07/2022 06:34

I’ve booked two so far! Las Vegas in late April and Majorca in late May.

still looking around for august next year. Unsure on where to go though!

I always book a year in advance to encourage me to save up!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/07/2022 06:49

@PurBal car hire was a shock this year. We were going to pay £1300 for two weeks car hire for our now cancelled trip to Italy. No choice as it was the villa was in a fairly remote spot.

In previous years we've paid as little as £150 p/w for car hire in Corfu but when we looked for this year when trying to re book a holiday it was going to be £500 for the smallest type of car and more for one that would I actually fit our luggage in.

Palg68 · 23/07/2022 06:50

@Workyticket can I ask what part of Turkey and any good hotel recommendations please?

ItsAllInMyHeadImFuckingUpAgain · 23/07/2022 06:51

Going to Center Parcs in Feb.

kateandme · 23/07/2022 06:55

BitterTits · 22/07/2022 21:06

£1.5k a might for that Villa Murat 😯

Makes you want to weep right.
She got it for 400! Literally last minute booking so you'd have to be brave.
But some can afford it full price right😩

kateandme · 23/07/2022 06:57

Anyone no why the car hires have gone up so ridiculously?

kateandme · 23/07/2022 07:00

PurBal · 23/07/2022 07:17

Yeah. Also Italy. £700 for a 3 door fiat panda or something for a week. We will have a 2yo by the time we go.

gogohmm · 23/07/2022 07:33

No but got plans, we don't go in school holidays so no need. Plan is to overland to Mallorca by motorbike. Need to find somewhere nice for a few days there otherwise we do t prebook much

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/07/2022 07:55

@kateandme I briefly looked into the reasons for the jump in car hire costs.

Apparently during the pandemic lockdowns a lot of the cars were sold and then they companies struggled to buy new ones because of the chip shortage. So there is a shortage of cats available to hire and possibly a general increase in prices because if the losses during the lockdowns.

Pearlyqueen21 · 23/07/2022 12:12

rookiemere · 22/07/2022 22:34

Used free BA companion flight and Airmiles to get free flights to Florence next June ( will leave 17 yr old DS at home).
Also booked a lovely rental for around £500 for the week.
Annoyingly car hire is coming in at 400 euros, but hopefully prices will come down.

Keep an eye on this hire car provider: m.doyouitaly.com/index.htm

I was shocked at the rise in prices, and usually stick with searching on the main sites. But this company ended up cheapest - they shuttled us to and from the airport, nice people and much more relaxed than the airport companies. No need to clean the car before returning, lower deposit taken etc. I would use them again.

rookiemere · 23/07/2022 12:25

@Pearlyqueen21 brilliant, I'll definitely keep checking for car hire prices to go down.

Grackl8 · 23/07/2022 12:30

Just booked our car hire for the canaries form next jan. . Canaries is always cheap for car hire, It was £140’ for the week for a small car.
