Thought I'd get in early. Booked flights yesterday for July next year as I need something to look forward to!

Can anyone tell me do package holidays like tui and jet 2 usually rise in price the nearer departure date.
Not really used to booking packages but looking to book a week or five day solo holiday for next year probably May/June.
Some decent prices now but should I wait till nearer the time.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 23/07/2022 12:35

Japan in feb bloody counting the days down 😂😂

rookiemere · 23/07/2022 12:39

@Grackl8 It's slightly hard to predict outside the school holidays, but generally prices won't go down, so if you've found something you're happy with I'd go ahead and book it.

If you ring up Jet2 you can often get an additional £60 off on booking, also you pay the holiday in instalments so it will be all paid up before next year.

I'm not on commission- honest - just a recent convert post covid to Jet2 package holidays.

I have booked a holiday for me, dh, ds and ds's Partner.

12 nights in Mauritius. Direct flights from Heathrow. All inclusive, upgraded rooms with terrace, garden and beach access, private transfers.

£8600 in total. Mauritius has some really good offers at the moment.

@Pearlyqueen21 brilliant, I'll definitely keep checking for car hire prices to go down.

I should have also specified the company was Rentalplus 👍

Grackl8 · 23/07/2022 19:24

@rookiemere Thanks. I’ve not heard a bad word about tui, so I know what you mean!

Grackl8 · 23/07/2022 21:38

Meant jet 2😂

Varies massively where are you thinking of going? I booked for next year got a bargain and this was about 3 months ago. If you see a deL snap it up I usually watch the price for so long and compare... then book.

@AngelsWithSilverWings

What's the driver there. I ask out of compassion and interest. A daughter who becomes unwell in the sun, a nightmare getting there, a nightmare now sorting food and drinks? Is there a need to go abroad?

DH is a nightmare with holidays. Won't go abroad, to hot. I take kids to centre parts myself, to busy for him. What we have sadly settled on is a week remote uk January coast. We enjoy that.

Summer wise though I would love to try something different but you sound like you would prefer not to be abroad? Or perhaps I'm wrong.

Polkadotties · 23/07/2022 22:26

Going to the Maldives in January for our honeymoon

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/07/2022 07:55

@kateandme I briefly looked into the reasons for the jump in car hire costs.

Apparently during the pandemic lockdowns a lot of the cars were sold and then they companies struggled to buy new ones because of the chip shortage. So there is a shortage of cats available to hire and possibly a general increase in prices because if the losses during the lockdowns.

Thanks dor this.
Things really have gone tits up with every walk of life hasn't it.every system faulty in some way now.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 24/07/2022 07:39

@sheepandcaravan good question! So the history is we usually camp in our tent in the UK with another family for two weeks in the summer and then take a week in Greece in May when it's not so hot. We also sometimes try to get away in October somewhere.

This year DS was doing GCSEs so a holiday in May half term was not an option and as our camping buddies are on a long awaited holiday of a lifetime in Canada we decided to go abroad. ( the kids didn't want to camp without their friends)

We had found a wonderful villa in Sicily but had to cancel it after two flights were cancelled ( one just 5 hours before we were due to fly ) The holiday we hastily booked and are on now is something of a consolation prize and not at all what we would have planned had we had more time or options.

With regards to my daughter - she was very recently put on new medication for her Crohns which causes sun sensitivity - she didn't want to give up having holidays because of this so we have to just be careful and take precautions with the sun. So it's factor 50 , a parasol and she goes back to her room for a couple of hours in the middle of the day ( as a 14 year old phone addict this is no hardship for her!)

If your child becomes unwell due to the sun that is definitely a good reason to not want to holiday abroad.

The rest isn't though. You can pick a short flight, go half board or all inclusive. Find a hotel that offers kids activities. Places like Center Parcs are extortionate and a full week at the coast would be far too much.

Grackl8 · 25/07/2022 21:02

@Palg68 Thanks. Nor sure what I fancy.will be away with dh to Greek island in June and canaries in feb. Maybe Nerja Spain or algarve.
