Going to France in a couple of weeks and I can't wait! I bloody love French supermarkets but it's been so long since we've been (thanks covid) that I can't remember the cool little things that I should buy. Anyone got any recommendations?

OP posts:

Breton gateaux

OrangeBlossom28 · 07/07/2022 20:54

Ooh, we'll be there in two weeks as well and I can't wait for the food and drink! Adding to my supermarket list as we speak.

ShaunaTheSheep · 07/07/2022 21:00

Pschitt!
Lu Chamonix cakes
Rotisserie chicken
Cidre
Cornetto in every flavour

And Petit Marseillaise shampoo and soap

Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese.
When eating out then seafood, all the seafood.

RAINSh0wers · 07/07/2022 21:05

Seconding the suggestion of duck confit in a can. And also canned potato dauphinois.

we’re off to France in the summer and I can’t wait to hit the supermarket, it’s my favourite part!

stripeymonster · 07/07/2022 21:14

Bacon Tuc biscuits, giant tomatoes, goats cheese babybel, peaches, plums, green gages, olives.....

bigbluebus · 07/07/2022 21:16

We always buy that grated carrot salad when we go - carrottes rappees?

FuncaMunca · 07/07/2022 21:19

I'd be making a beeline for the sauscisson noisette and the cidre breton

ChaToilLeam · 07/07/2022 21:20

A friend of mine has moved to Nice. I have an invitation to visit. Oh, the stuff I can bring back! (I’m already in Europe!) 😋 I don’t know where to start!

WWRGD · 07/07/2022 21:21

Raspberry jaffa cakes
Maoams
Mustard crisps, paprika crisps

Oh yes, and the celeriac remoulade. Have a dollop with pretty much every meal.

ShaunaTheSheep · 07/07/2022 22:36

I bought raspberry Jaffa cakes in Lidl today (also had cherry).

Frozen noisette and parmentier potatoes - great for camping.

Remoulade - yes!

Mailed Dijonnaise

Tins of sirop - grenadine, citron.

Chupa Chups café crème flavour

ShaunaTheSheep · 07/07/2022 22:39

Peanut puffs
Crème de mure and cheap fizz

minipie · 07/07/2022 22:41

Maille mayonnaise
Melons
Saucisson definitely - why is it so hard to find whole salamis here?
Definitely those biscuits made entirely of butter and sugar

LateMumma · 07/07/2022 22:48

Millefeuille from the supermarket, the ratatouille in green rectangular tins, gallettes, the tomatoes that actually taste and smell
like tomatoes, tartiflette, great big garlic bulbs, chocolate, the cheese cubes in different flavours (can't remember their names) ALL the wine and cheese in fact 😁 Not at all jealous!!

Roundlampshade · 07/07/2022 22:53

Thank you for this thread OP as we are going to France this weekend and our supermarche shop is booked for Monday.

One thing to add: tinned cassoulet. And Poulain hot chocolate powder.

Apparently we cannot being dairy back into the U.K. - can anyone verify this?

France: food and drink 😁
Imissmoominmama · 07/07/2022 22:58

We brought loads of cheese back in the fridge of our campervan a couple of weeks ago…

DeliaOwens · 07/07/2022 23:13

Petit Marseillais shower gels/shampoos
Tahiti douche shower gels
Savon de Marseille
Tins of cassoulet
Tins of saucisses au lentilles
Tins of veg
French Condiments (stock cubes, mustards, salad dressings etc)
Benedicta mayonnaise.
Fig & nut Boursin.
Peanut puffs.

Tesseir sirops (like squash)

madamy · 07/07/2022 23:15

Mousseline boxed mashed potatoes, really good posh Smash!
Petit Marseillais shower gel
DH and the kids love Candy Up chocolate milk
Crema sweets, like chewier Starburst
Cheese, all of it!
Massive lettuces
Proper French butter
Real baguettes, not fake Sainsbury's soft and squidgy ones.

Going in 5 weeks can't wait! Unfortunately flying so limited to what we can bring back!

LaChatte · 07/07/2022 23:19

Liptonic if you've never tried it.

bloodyunicorns · 07/07/2022 23:19

Compotes in all different flavours! Apple, pear - yum!

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 07/07/2022 23:22

If you have an occasion, buy a raspberry entremet. I don't normally eat sweet things, but honestly this was the best thing I've ever eaten

PlopPlop · 07/07/2022 23:22

Butter, fresh bread daily from the baker, eggs and middle shelf wine,

the basics are so much superior in France

LaChatte · 07/07/2022 23:25

There's a mustard shortage at the moment by the way !

If you go into a Carrefour I highly recommend the trianon au chocolat in the fresh case section.

BrianWankum · 07/07/2022 23:25

Just got back and didn't have much space - had to get the squeezy packets of apple etc puree though! Then prioritised wine and soft drinks (Agrumes and ice tea cans), chocolate, mustard crisps and Minizzas for DH's colleague's son!
