Going to France in a couple of weeks and I can't wait! I bloody love French supermarkets but it's been so long since we've been (thanks covid) that I can't remember the cool little things that I should buy. Anyone got any recommendations?

All the cheese! Crepes, gazpacho, rice desserts, biscuits.

poorbuthappy · 07/07/2022 19:36

All the wine.....😁

Correlation · 07/07/2022 19:42

Pain d’epices, yogurts in glass pots, proper chocolate eclairs, madeleines, apericube cheese, mini pizza crackers….. I’m sure I’ll think of more

artisanbread · 07/07/2022 19:44

Apericubes definitely! The reason I go to France on holiday. And lots of wine to go with them. La Roche Mazet is cheap but tastes good.

froomeonthebroom · 07/07/2022 19:46

Oh my goodness apericubes! I'd totally forgotten about them.

Obv all the wine/cheese. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Duck in a tin! Confit de canard. But I don't think you can bring meat or dairy back to the UK anymore. You can eat with fried potatoes or really make each leg pay its way putting them into pancakes / pitta / wraps.

All the nibbles for drinks parties.

Bottles of syrup/squash in all the flavours.

scissorsandsellotape · 07/07/2022 20:19

Those yummy individual pot yoghurts that come in glass jars

Are there lots of rules on the food??

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/07/2022 20:29

Re Brexit - as far as I know, UK doesn't restrict what you bring in.
The EU, on the other hand, does have rules on what you can bring in to an EU country from a 3rd country such as UK.
So you'll be fine, OP. Just don't over buy on the alcohol 😂

I think you'll find you are limited to 4 litres of wine!

Whereabouts are you going to @ChoiceChoice4567 ? We are heading to the Dordogne and the Loire

No, it's a marvellous 18 litres @Lineala!

And you can bring spirits and port on top of that

You are right, I just checked!

Clymene · 07/07/2022 20:36

I only know because I checked the other day as we're going soon. I was pleasantly surprised GrinGrin

Kerrrmieee · 07/07/2022 20:39

Just a humble jar of mayonnaise every time. Nothing posh - Super-U's cheapest far beats anything here.

LadySparkleHound · 07/07/2022 20:40

Supermarket millefeuille and the opera torte!

Definitely the Confit. Also the beef carpaccio.

We're going to the Dordogne in a couple of weeks and can't wait.

You've reminded me that they have mustard mayo in squeezy bottles!
