TUI.... WTF is going on?!

We're due to fly out to Greece through TUI in 4 weeks. It's our first holiday abroad with our 4YO. I'm really nervous now as there's tonnes of people saying they've had horrific experiences and even been kept at the airport hours only for the entire holiday to be cancelled! Is the whole company going under? Should I just write our holiday off now? Does anyone who's travelled recently actually have a positive experience to share? I'm so worried. Thanks x

Watching. Due to fly to Majorca on the 7th June with TUI. Kids first time abroad and I don’t want to get their hopes up

the best advice is to stop reading horror stories about holidays on the internet. Millions of people have great holidays with TUI (and any other holiday company) but they aren’t complaining online. You only hear about when it goes wrong.

You will have a lovely holiday.

I think you should stop scaring yourself and look forward to your holiday
There are rumours yes , there have been cnx flights and horrendous queues at airports .. but same for Easy Jet who had an IT failure

Relax and pack your suitcase

Returned this week and looking to book again. Flew from manchester and had no issues outbound, then a 2 hour delay returning. The delay was caused by manchester airport and a random spot check from the aviation authority (i think that is what it was called). Stayed in a tui hotel which was faultless - so much so we are goung to book a return holiday for later in the summer

Thanks. FTR I've done a couple of Tui holidays in the past and had no issues at all. I'm also aware that media are very much scaremongering... But this all feels 'different' somehow. My fear is based on things people are saying on Tui's own fb page

We are due to fly out on Wednesday with Tui Whilst the media do hype things up we do know from Tui themselves that they have cancelled flights and some flights have been delayed by hours. We are flying long haul with 3 kids so the last thing we need is a 4-5 hour delay.
I plan to prepare for a lengthy delay there and back, I have also checked out availability with Jet2 in the event that our holiday is cancelled. We normally have a case each with our own things in, this time I am going to split things across the cases as there are lots of reports about missing luggage. If I could cancel the holiday myself without any financial implications I would. Not how I imagined the exciting pre holiday prep!

Flew out last week to Greece with tui with no issues, return tomorrow. Once half term is out the way maybe things will calm down. I was the same before our holiday but no problems yet, hopefully tomorrow will go smoothly too. It's a tiny minority that has had these problems.

We flew out on Saturday with another company. Loads of Tui flights taking off before and after us from the airport without issue, from the boards none even looked to be delayed. Tui desks looked calm, certainly no hoardes of disgruntled passengers or anything like that. Seems to be an issue with some airports more than others perhaps?

On Sat 3 flights were cancelled including mine to Rhodes
all of them had significant delays of at least 8-10 hrs and then completely cancelled by text
on Sunday the flight to Egypt and I think Ibiza were also cancelled completely
No Tui reps at the airports
I would say if you arrive and the flights been delayed you have a pretty good chance of it being cancelled

if you go on FB and search for Tui holiday complaints you will see that over this weekend loads and loads of flights have been completely cancelled

My flight was also supposed to collect people to bring them back to the uk which obviously didn’t happen

So just on the 3 flights that were cancelled that’s roughly 70k in compensation for one way at £350 per person on a full flight . X 3 flights so 200k

Add the refund of the holidays ours was 5k for a week for 3 people .

Then do that again for the people that can’t get back because the flights have been cancelled in the UK and get £350 each compensation so another 200k

Multiply that by all the other flights that have been cancelled over the last few days

Thats a shit load of money to lose in 1 day

FFS you are actually joking. Our honeymoon is mid June with Tui. It's been arranged as a belated one after we finally got married the end of last year following 5 rearrangements (originally due to get married at the start of the first lockdown). Pretty sure I'm currently miscarrying our first child. Can nothing go smoothly for us. Guess I better get ready to loose our nice honeymoon too.

I would just assume you are going, do everything you usually would, and just keep an eye out for updates, who knows what will happen. Reading between the lines in this Ryanair, EasyJet and Tui may be in trouble, but who knows for certain. I hope you get your holiday and have a lovely break.

Sorry you’ve had a tough time @PoleFairy im sure your holiday will go smoothly there is still time! I’m hoping this half term will kick the airports into gear for summer (might be wishful thinking…)

The recent issues were to do with air traffic control iirc - this meant flights were delayed and the pilot and crew were timed out so their next flights had to be cancelled as new crew couldn't be found in time. It is scaremongering to say that if your flight is showing as delayed it is going to be cancelled.

After following all the various Tui pages online for a while now something I would say is that if you have any delays at all take screenshots, keep receipts and take videos etc. The people that have had their compensation paid quickly are the ones that have done this, many have had their claims denied and some are even arguing with Tui that they were even on a flight! It’s horrible to read some of the stories. People have ended up sleeping in their cars after their whole holiday has been cancelled after spending 24 hours waiting for a flight that was then cancelled.

My sister was due to fly home yesterday from Cyprus with TUI. Flight was cancelled/delayed. Just waiting to hear if they did eventually get home. My friend had the same flying out to Turkey a few weeks ago with TUI. They are obviously struggling. I'm flying with Easyjet in a few weeks and expecting it to be hard work. We are only going away for a few days so if our flight doesn't leave on the day it won't be worth going.

@WeAreTheHeroes
that’s been my experience and that of many other people this week who have holidays with Tui
it seems to have got really bad from around Wednesday and has carried on over the weekend .

The flights that were cancelled at my airport on Saturday were already delayed when we checked in
then cancelled many hours later
A friend was on the way to the airport and got the Text that it was cancelled

on trust pilot pretty much every review wrote in the last few days are about holidays being cancelled while at the airport after checking in .

on Facebook it’s even worse - although FB is known for being overdramatic 😂 but their are loads of people all saying the same thing with Tui both in the uk and being stuck abroad for several days with no real help .

I expect that when the half term is over things will return to normal and most people have pretty short memories and will continue to book with Tui -that’s if they are still around as they do long haul packages and JET Easy Jet & Ryan Air don’t . I’m

And I’m lucky I live 20 mins from my airport so was home quickly
Others had to drive 2-3 hours to get home

Plus I’ve can afford to rebook a new holiday for Wednesday with Jet 2 so I will still get my holiday - hopefully

Family delayed a day coming home tui let them stay at resort so an extra day. Five hour delay at airport next day due to problems with Manchester.. read yesterday a complete shift of baggage handlers failed to come into work which isn't helpful

Where are you flying from? I flew from Luton a few weeks ago and had no issues at all. We went an hour earlier than normal after seeing all the issues at airports. Security took 10 minutes to get through and in the hours we were left hanging around (because we were so early) we didn't see any cancelled flights.
