TUI.... WTF is going on?!

Ahurricaneofjacarandas · 29/05/2022 20:38

We're due to fly out to Greece through TUI in 4 weeks. It's our first holiday abroad with our 4YO. I'm really nervous now as there's tonnes of people saying they've had horrific experiences and even been kept at the airport hours only for the entire holiday to be cancelled! Is the whole company going under? Should I just write our holiday off now? Does anyone who's travelled recently actually have a positive experience to share? I'm so worried. Thanks x

TUI has confirmed today that they will be cancelling 6 flights a day from Manchester airport for the next 4 weeks due to the chaos at Manchester airport. So if you're flying from Manchester, there's a small chance you'll be affected, but if not, then you should be okay.

Absolutely shite for those who are flying from Manchester, though.

Tui are are shit show atm. Their routine of cancelling flights last minute is causing further chaos at airports for non tui passengers.
They'll be lucky to survive this

I would be too concerned about cancellation to book a holiday with them now.

If TUI weren’t in trouble already they almost certainly will be after this chaos.

This absolutely isn’t media scaremongering, I know people this has happened to and it is chaos. But people will be reluctant to book with them in the future because we’re not just talking flights being cancelled but entire holidays. So it goes way beyond chaos at Manchester.

If people were being rebooked on flights a few hours later it would be different. But the people I know this happened to just had to go home and had no holiday.

Flew with Tui last Thursday to greece from Gatwick. Booked premium security. A fiver a go. But really no problem. Bit mystified why they didn't have the bag drop open but we arrived 3 hrs before flight and had plenty of time.

Part of the problem with security is some people turning up too early for flights. Tui and UK airports are understaffed. Who'd have thought that would be a consequence of a pandemic and Brexit?

We were supposed to fly from Manchester to Turkey on Friday. Had 4.5 hour delay then boarded, sat on the plane for 2.5 hours then told it was cancelled. This apparently was due to the catering truck not turning up and they can’t legally fly without minimum catering amounts. Some people were put up in hotels but we went home. Flight was rescheduled for 2 days later and we did actually get to Turkey but after about 3 hour delay.

We made it back from Greece OK. Flight slightly delayed, but only by 50 minutes. However when we came to get our cases at b'ham there were loads of cases next to one of the converter belts. Looked like a cancelled flight(no idea which airline). Our flight was fine though.

The problems are with the airports

We flew out of Glasgow to Croatia on Thursday 19th and flew home the following week.
both planes took off on time, landed on time.
queues were reasonable.

we had a great time.

Our tui holiday leaving on Friday was cancelled today, one of the unlucky 6 a day,I'm just so grateful it's happened now and not when iv got the kids to the airport, obviously devastated though

I don't think it's a TUI-specific problem. There has been chaos at all the airports and some of the ferry ports. It was the same at Easter. They are understaffed to deal with the the surge in demand post-Covid, especially roles like baggage-handlers. There are also more passport and security checks needed after Brexit. Eg, you need a stamp in your passport to travel to EU countries now. It doesn't take long to stamp a passport but with the numbers of people passing through it adds up.

However, I would say you are much less likely to have problems travelling outside the school holidays.

The main problems being reported are with Tui, EasyJet and BA. It’s making Ryanair and jet2 look the most promising at the moment

We LOVED croatia when we went. Did a mini road trip. Started in Dubrovnik and finished in Zagreb and even drove into Slovenia one day! Sorry just wanted to reminisce about simpler times when holidays were easier haha

They’ve said themselves they’re cancelling 34000 holidays in the next month

Been a stressful night here! Was booked to go to Bulgaria with Tui on 9th, obviously that's been postponed three times because of the pandemic. Finally got an email confirming holiday was cancelled at 4am this morning. Rebooked same holiday, same hotel with Jet2, managed to get the last room. Now flying 7am on the 8th instead. Fingers crossed!

Technically that's incorrect, they are cancelling six flights a day till 30th June which will apparently impact 30000 customers, me included (see above)

Following this. We go (supposedly) after half term. Booked with TUI, going to Turkey from Manchester. Originally booked for 2020.

Sorry to those who have had holidays cancelled recently.

Tui are a bag of shit. Horrendous firm, no response to complaints, no customer service. I’ve voted with my feet and will never, ever book with them again. If I was you, I’d have a back up plan if you possibly can……

From what I understand the Turkey flights are quite badly affected :-( You will want to keep a close eye on your emails and the Tui app I'd say x
