I can’t stop looking at trips and getting excited about booking them. I already have a UK cottage booked for Easter and a European beach holiday for July but I am now obsessing over where to go after that. All our spare money goes into holidays (probably a bit silly - but then I’ve never regretted a single trip so maybe not) - I think it’s because both of us travelled a lot pre kids and now they’re older it feels feasible again. Anyone else spend a lot of time thinking about travel?!!

I visited Mitsis Laguna late last August, it’s a lovely resort but the sea is not good.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/03/2022 21:01

This is me too, UK and abroad. I also work in travel so am inspired regularly!

NeedleNoodle3 · 23/03/2022 21:06

I’m an addict and my DH is even worse. I was in a cruise to The Virgin Islands last week, we’re going to Brussels in a couple of weeks, New York in May, a Med cruise in June, to Rhodes late August, a river cruise in the Autumn and have a spa break booked for the weekend after next.

itsnevertolate · 23/03/2022 21:38

Thanks for the suggestions. Adding them all to my list Grin

ivykaty44 · 25/03/2022 14:05

@NeedleNoodle3

what is wrong with the sea?

NeedleNoodle3 · 25/03/2022 17:06

ivykaty44 there is only one part of the beach near the water slides where you can safely access the sea. The rest of the access into the sea has massive rocks, I’m not talking pebbles needing beach shoes but actual rocks in the sea and sand bags. I sure they’ll be lots of reviews of the sea on Tripadvisor. The beach is nice and pools beautiful but this isn’t the best choice if you enjoy swimming in the sea or doing water sports.

ivykaty44 · 26/03/2022 05:55

@NeedleNoodle3 Thanks for the reply, not much bothered about sea swimming on beaches I’m not familiar with (had nasty experience with rip current previously)

BG2015 · 01/04/2022 15:55

I'm the same. We've just come back from Egypt.
Going to the lakes at Easter
Wales in June
Kos in August
Prague in October
Edinburgh for New Year
Mexico Easter 2023.
Now discussing summer 2023.

A few of these are amended holidays from 2020/21.

I live for my holidays!

GeneLovesJezebel · 01/04/2022 15:57

Pre covid we went away 4 times a year. I used to like finding cheap flights, and we got hotels cheaper by booking direct.

KELLOGSspeck · 01/04/2022 16:33

@uggmum

Yep. I'm in Jamaica at the moment. Rome in 2 weeks. Dubai in June and Croatia on sept.

I would keep on booking!!

Oooo so Jelous your in Jamaica! Have a lovely time. I've been twice I last states in Negril.
RoundGlass · 01/04/2022 16:34

I love going away for UK breaks more than week/2 weeks somewhere - because I get to do it more often. Already been away 6 times this year (5 days each). Not a fan of the sun and love the cold. Have a 5 day trip, a 2 day trip x2 and a 9 day trip planned for the rest of the year so far.

I aim for something once a month.. even if its only 2 days.

Georgyporky · 01/04/2022 18:37

We got our fingers burnt in 2020 by having booked flights & hotels separately as we usually did, so now we use an agent to tailor a package for us & we are covered.

We returned to Egypt recently as they were one of the few countries that didn't require testing,
Day after we got back we booked a 5-day city break, but are holding off booking Mekong & Galapagos until restrictions are lifted.

DH only gets 5 weeks holiday, so it's a juggling act to include Bank Holidays but avoid school holidays.

I could go alone, of course ......

lightisnotwhite · 02/04/2022 22:27

I’m joining you lot.
Last year I did a uk city break with DS, a last minute Greece in the summer, south of France in the Autumn and Barcelona in the spring with DH.
I’m seriously concerned that my finances this year will limit my holidays. Looking for a second job just to pay for my holiday obsession.

TonkaBean22 · 03/04/2022 06:52

Totally a thread for me! I generally like travelling solo but my boyfriend sometimes joins.

Last year: Armenia, Bosnia, Lebanon, Crete and Lithuania.

This year: no travels so far, but I will be going to: Albania in April, Jordan in May for my birthday and Morocco in September. First time in all these places so I’m very excited!

I really want to go to Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Egypt, in 2023.

garlictwist · 03/04/2022 08:10

@SavaDc

I'm the opposite, I just can't make a decision because I worry about the trip, hotel, place, weather ( you name it) being perfect.

Stupid, we end up going know where.... 🤯

I am the same. I really want holidays to be perfect and so I spend so much time stressing that it won't be that I don't enjoy the build up, the planning or sometimes even the holiday itself.

Ooh, we're booked to go to Jordan next May, please post back afterwards what it was like!

I love looking at holidays but then they cost so much I find it hard to commit. My brother and his family are always off somewhere, but I've no idea how they afford it. I sometimes wonder whether they use these websites like Secret Deals or Voyage Prive but have never used them myself.

Madrenetterhere · 03/04/2022 18:47

I've just now booked a holiday to Poland (Warsaw) in June and also two long weekends to the Norfolk broads. That is in addition to two holidays to Spain this year. Oh my goodness I am buzzin!!!!!!!!! Eeekkkkkkkkkkkkk only posting here as I know you will understand my excitement 😀

BibliophileYogiGirl · 05/04/2022 14:35

Love this thread!

We just got back from two weeks in Thailand which was absolutely amazing.

We are doing a weekend in Stratford Upon Avon in May. London for the long weekend in June. Bali in September. Hoar Cross Hall for a spa weekend in November. These are all booked so now thinking about next year! Definitely doing Iceland in February, Cyprus in September and Maldives in November. Going to try and do Venice for the Easter weekend too!

I honestly love travelling!

Favourite places everyone has been to? Mine is definitely Thailand so far

pinkchampagne1 · 05/04/2022 15:30

I love holidays too!

We went to Tenerife during October half term and are now in the French Alps on a skiing holiday. My DH’s parents own a property out here.
We also have a few nights away booked in May and then Duinrell booked for August. In October we have a treehouse in Center Parcs booked for a long weekend and then 4 nights in Sorrento for October half term, both to celebrate my big birthday.
We have to book during peak times as I work term time so look for the best deals.

TortolaParadise · 07/04/2022 22:15

Me too! I always have an itinerary on the boil.

Sallyingon · 10/04/2022 09:06

I am the same. I love the planning and the remembering afterwards. Our budget is solidly 3 star but we research hard and have had some lovely holidays. This year we are going to Zadar in July, Tenerife in August and Coniston in September. Hoping to get a London weekend in at the end of the year too.
I am beside myself with excitement today because I have booked some flights to Corfu for summer 2023 with jet2. Got a good price and now have 19 whole days to fill and the plan is coming together nicely!

Triotriotrio · 10/04/2022 09:11

Me!! My name is Trio and I am a holiday addict!

I had 6 holidays booked and paid for in 2020 and managed to finally get away to Greece in Oct 21. This year I have been away already and have USA, South East Asia and Africa already booked for later in the year. I'm hoping for a few long weekends away too!

I spend all my spare cash on holidays. I book cheap ones after lots of research and I bloody love it. Guaranteed if I get drunk ill book another holiday!!! 🤣

NalPolishRemover · 10/04/2022 13:00

Oh I have found my people!
I ADORE travelling! I love the research & the planning & as someone else said, the remembering afterwards. It sustains me in some vital way & makes me feel alive.

I actually have a really interesting & creative job & a nice life so it's not like I have to get through the monotony of a job I ensure to get to a holiday. But I've always loved loved loved travel.

We're fans of city breaks & we love art & culture & museums & food & wine. Not into beach holidays at all. So we do a real mix every few years we do long haul & have been to Australia 5 times, Canada, USA, Thailand, China.

Inbetween we do European city breaks & national breaks. We're not in the UK.

The pandemic was so tough as travel was so off the cards but we considered ourselves v lucky as we were in Italy in Feb 2020 right before it all broke!

Last year we managed to squeeze in Dublin x 2, Galway, Malaga & Budapest.

This year we were in London in February for 3 days.

We're heading to Venice over Easter. Berlin in June. Dublin late June/ early July. Malaga October & we'll go somewhere in December.

Possibly Barcelona in September. Dh may have a work trip there not 100% confirmed yet. If he does we'll go with him.

Unless it's long haul we usually don't go for longer than a week as we prefer to have more shorter breaks than 1 long one.

We spend most of our disposable income on travel. I am really good at getting v cheap flights. Our trip to Budapest last year was v inexpensive as I got the flights for 9.99 each on a Ryanair sale!

I'm a genius member of booking. Com & often get great deals through that on good accommodation.

We revisit places that we love (Venice multiple multiple times, Prague twice, Florence 4 times etc, Budapest twice etc) but we add in new ones all the time too.

We're currently planning a trip for next year & we're interested in either visiting Tallin & ferry to Finland or driving through Germany into Netherlands

I often worry that there isn't enough time or money to see all the places I want to experience.

I can't fathom going to places like Tenerife etc year after year as it holds no appeal for me at all, but i get that it's each to their own.

I am incredibly grateful that we've been able to bring our dc with us & allow them to experience so much of the world.

Triotriotrio · 10/04/2022 16:27

@goodnightgrumble

How the hell do you afford all these holidays? Does booking early make a difference? am an addict and save a few hundred each month for holidays but couldn't afford all these! I have been to a lodge in North Yorkshire, got South of France in a gite in June and probably Cornwall in August camping!
I follow holiday pirates and book cheap holidays then pay off monthly. 1 week in Greece £127 each. All Inc in Fuerteventura £310 each etc
