I can’t stop looking at trips and getting excited about booking them. I already have a UK cottage booked for Easter and a European beach holiday for July but I am now obsessing over where to go after that. All our spare money goes into holidays (probably a bit silly - but then I’ve never regretted a single trip so maybe not) - I think it’s because both of us travelled a lot pre kids and now they’re older it feels feasible again. Anyone else spend a lot of time thinking about travel?!!

I am fantasising about upcoming holiday to Majorca and one in December to SE Asia that has been cancelled twice. Would love to squeeze in a trip to the Channel Islands and a mini break to Sicily too.
I am seriously impressed with a 5 year plan.. Grin

Love love holidays and trips. The last 2 years have been so hard as it's been so difficult to make plans. Last year we did get to Italy though in the summer and had a weekend in Lisbon. This year I have planned South of France in May, girls weekend in Madrid in June and a mini-tour of Puglia (3 stops) in September. I'm just waiting to find out dd's plans for the summer (she leaves school this year) so I can fit something else in. She's just got her local "animation team" qualification too which means she can work on the holiday camps abroad as well as locally which is very exciting for her.

BlueSpottedGiraffe · 22/03/2022 09:41

Yep I always have to have something booked which has been hard during COVID, we don't have kids yet so trying to travel as much as we can before we do and we use all our disposable income for trips away (not bothered about designer clothes/latest tech etc).

We are going to NY next week Grin and don't have anything else booked at the minute as we are going to see how much money we have in our 'holiday account' after that but I am hoping for a weekend away in June (thinking Bristol?), a UK 5 night break in September and then somewhere for 10 days next March, possibly AI in Mexico. And then I'm already thinking about Greece or Italy for next summer Blush. We like a mix of different things too, sometimes we will splash out on one night in a £400 hotel others we are in the cheapest B&B we can find!

I have enjoyed every minute of planning for NY, lots of people get stressed but I just love it!! My mum was always the same though and we had some great holidays as kids.

nearlyspringyay · 22/03/2022 09:50

Yep, particularly since Covid. I have literally just booked Butlins for a short break over Christmas. My kids favourite place in the world!!

We got a week in the Peak District over Easter, a week on the IoW in half term, two weeks in Ibiza in August and will have a few nights somewhere in October.

No1HolidayPlanner · 22/03/2022 11:29

This is a great thread.. I am not alone then😊

I love the planning as much as anything!

I live for holidays and spend all my spare money!

A bit restricted this year due to DSs A levels and GCSEs ... but finish mid June so got cheap flights to Lanzarote early July.

Lisbon in September- first time visit- for 20th wedding anniversary

Duinrell in October.

So many places on my list to visit!!

Happy holidays everyone 😊✈️

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 22/03/2022 15:06

I feel like I’ve found my people
Belfast this weekend
York April
Munich May
Budapest June
Algarve July
Croatia August
Newcastle Sept
Marrakech October

Also planning big holiday next February.

Most of these flights have been previous years carried forward with a few extras. Love being away and exploring.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 22/03/2022 15:08

God I would love to!! Money is so tight now though abs the cost of living is going through the roof. We are heating or eating now. I can't believe after being the type of person who holidays a lot this is the situation we are in!

NatMoz · 22/03/2022 15:13

I am the same when it comes to holidays.

I had a baby in December and my doom and gloom parents said I'd never go away again due to the effort involved

So far I have a long weekend over Easter in the lake District

Salcombe in June

Cornwall in September.

Just waiting on my baby's passport (got an email yesterday saying 'application approved') and once in my hand I'm booking a week to Greece!

AnyFucker · 22/03/2022 17:10

It’s not impossible to holiday with a baby, it’s just different. Enjoy !

AmandaStaveleysBlackNWhiteArmy · 22/03/2022 17:19

Oh this is me. I would quite happily spend all of our cash on holidays but I restrain myself.

So far we have been to Spain and intend one further visit at least this year in May as we have family out there. I will no doubt do a few weekend trips throughout the year as well. We are planning a week away in the summer somewhere warm and then in November we’re doing a big trip just DH and I to watch a big sporting event with sand and sun and sea either side of it.

Just wondering if we can slit something else in as well although rising cost of living means it really wouldn’t be the sensible thing to do.

My favourite past-time! We were in Costa Rica when the covid shit hit the fan so we were one of the lucky ones who got abroad in 2019. We ended up coming home a couple of days early but still had a great 10 days there. Then, I managed to book a week in Jersey in September 2019 when things were opened up briefly. We even got a few days in the Isle of Wight at the start of November, before they locked us down again!

Last year we went to Greece twice in July and September and to Scotland in August and for New Year, so again managed to squeeze the holidays in during the times things were opened up.

We are off to Italy in a couple of weeks time - travelling around Northern Italy by train for 12 days. Then we have Greece in July, Wales in August, Canada in September/October and back to Scotland for New Year.

I design all the holidays myself - book the flights then do everything else on the internet and book direct with the accommodation etc. I love the planning and anticipation of the holiday almost as much as the holiday itself

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 22/03/2022 20:01

@99victoria would you mind sharing your Costa Rica trip, I’m hoping to go for 2 weeks in February

ImInStealthMode · 22/03/2022 20:03

My people!! I work in travel and live for it. I've been with my DP since just before the pandemic and it frustrates me that we've not really been able to travel much together.

Mauritius and Italy this year though, and already thinking about some Winter sun after Christmas Smile

We flew into San Jose and spent a couple of days there then we travelled to Tortuguero (by coach then boat, you can't drive all the way there) for 3 days. We then went to Arenal Volcano and on to Rinconda de la Vieja. We were supposed to be going to Samara on the West coast for the last few days but unfortunately the FCO changed their travel advice which invalidated our insurance so we had to head back to San Jose and get an earlier plane home.

We used a local company Ecole Travel to arrange all our transit between the various location. They were so helpful. I would thoroughly recommend CR - it's beautiful and the people are so lovely - they take such a pride in their country

ImInStealthMode · 22/03/2022 20:49

Another vote for Costa Rica from me @Chocbuttonsandredwine! Best place I've ever been Smile

I've been to Tamarindo, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, Tortuguero, La Cahuita and Puerto Viejo, so if you have questions on any of those places specially I'll be happy to try and help.

Manuel Antonio was my favourite beach place, Monteverde my favourite for rainforest / wildlife and Tortuguero just generally amazing!

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 22/03/2022 20:53

The more help the better!

2 weeks, probably flying into and out of San Jose. Would like beaches, luxury, a little bit of adventure and wildlife, snorkelling maybe, just a general mix?

CathyorClaire · 22/03/2022 20:56

Yep.

Easter incoming, October half term sorted, in-between Xmas and New Year UK break sorted and booked Feb 2023 half term a while back.

Work in a school and organise hols on a military basis so as to minimise ghastly hiked cost of school holiday dates.

SavaDc · 22/03/2022 20:59

I'm the opposite, I just can't make a decision because I worry about the trip, hotel, place, weather ( you name it) being perfect.

Stupid, we end up going know where.... 🤯

TheGonnagle · 22/03/2022 21:01

Me too! Just booked our PCR tests for Thailand next week (fingers crossed!), France over the summer, Suffolk for October, London New Year, then Bali next Spring. Bring on the holidays!

Ladyladylady · 22/03/2022 21:06

Love this thread. Can’t beat the anticipation of an upcoming trip. We do a mix of UK trips in our campervan, overseas city breaks, fly and flop and interesting tours of long haul destinations. Aim for 1 a month
We’ve done Cape Verde & Lanzarote so far this year, Turkey in April, Budapest in May, Edinburgh in June, Scarborough in July, Pembrokeshire in August booked.
Still have the rest of the year to choose.

ImInStealthMode · 22/03/2022 21:08

@Chocbuttonsandredwine Thinking back to my research, the most luxurious resorts were on the Pacific coast (bigger more developed resorts popular with American visitors) while the Caribbean coast is less developed although there are some boutique gems about.

Adventure and wildlife is found throughout the country so that's easy. The cloud forest in Monteverde is just an amazing place to visit though Smile

I understand that there is great snorkelling to be found but having seen a giant crocodile chilling on the beach on day 1 of my first visit, I never ventured in the water (that was Pacific side, near the Tamarindo river estuary).

If you're spending a night or two in San Jose, I can recommend the Alta Las Palomas Hotel. It was recommended to me by a local and it was absolutely wonderful to chill for 2 nights after a busy 3 weeks.

goodnightgrumble · 22/03/2022 21:13

How the hell do you afford all these holidays? Does booking early make a difference?
am an addict and save a few hundred each month for holidays but couldn't afford all these!
I have been to a lodge in North Yorkshire, got South of France in a gite in June and probably Cornwall in August camping!

Kitkat151 · 22/03/2022 21:15

I’m away 3 times this month..,,then once a month for rest of year

Kitkat151 · 22/03/2022 21:16
