Long shot!
Anyone there right now?
Wondering if they managed to put a plan in place regarding the kitchen?

Can’t get through on phone and emails not been replied to.

All SM says not to bother going to Cornwall if no tables have been booked Sad

Bump!

ZydecoLaydee · 10/08/2021 20:31

Here now, it’s not great, everyone is struggling to get food! No tables to be had anywhere and their list of suggested ‘restaurants’ includes a Chinese takeaway in Newquay. I’m so sad we’ve spent so much money and I can’t even feed my DCs properly!

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 21:39

Oh no Sad
I’m so sorry.

We had packed and were practically in the car for a 5hr journey when we were called and advised about the kitchen closures.

One very distraught child and the dog already in kennels. Timeline given by them is questionable as they’ve told us the kitchen will be running on the 17th.

They also told us they’re trying to implement a plan. They told us you can still have breakfast in your room and use the dining room for food bought in but there aren’t self-catering facilities either are there? 😬

I gather swimming is still only 30min slots too. Softplay is now permanently closed as has the Kids Club which was their USP.

Have you used their arty events at all? Just wondering if they’re as I imagine.

I am so sorry you’re in this situation.

CornishTiger · 10/08/2021 21:42

What’s happening with the kitchen? There is nothing on social media.

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/08/2021 21:43

What's happened?

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 21:45

It’s down, there’s no food at all other than breakfast being served in bedrooms and according to one MNer, at times this was a cheeseburger.

Staff are isolating.

Plus this. Supermarkets are running low because restaurants are having to close.

OP posts:
AllTheCakes · 10/08/2021 21:48

They have kept it quiet on all their platforms. How disappointing to anyone there. It’s not cheap!

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/08/2021 21:49

Oh gosh, poor staff and poor holidaymakers. Rotten bad luck.

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 21:50

A Facebook post yesterday was so cheeky. They recommended a pizza from ‘Jam’ (?)

The clue was there. Sad

OP posts:
FlibbertyGiblets · 10/08/2021 21:53

I don't understand the jam reference sorry.

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 21:58

Recommending restaurants outside of their own, because they know theirs is closed.

It’s so stressful when it should be a relaxing break, at £3k and our first holiday since 2019! I wanted to come home but DH and the kids want to stay for the beach.

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 22:04

Sad How much longer do you have? Absolutely heartbroken for you.

OP posts:
ZydecoLaydee · 10/08/2021 22:05

Until Saturday Sad

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/08/2021 22:06

Why is it cheeky to offer recommendations in these circs?

Zydeco I am so sorry, a much longed for holiday crapped on by covid.

PercyWercy · 10/08/2021 22:08

Flibberty, with respect, you don’t know the conversations I have had with the GM. There is so much more to this.

OP posts:
lalafafa · 10/08/2021 22:25

There's a real staff shortage anyway in Cornwall, lots of restaurants cant open fully. We've stayed at Bedruthan numerous times and found it really difficult to get a table anywhere in normal times unless you book 3 weeks in advance. I hope all of your holidays aren't ruined.

VodselForDinner · 10/08/2021 22:32

That sounds awful.

Were you due to go today, OP? Have you cancelled or are you still considering it? I take it you’ll get a full refund?

Very disappointing for you.

Lulu1919 · 10/08/2021 22:37

Nooooo that's awful
Feeling for you and those there now
I know the hotel...it's jolly expensive ...we stayed at the sister hotel a few times many years ago Sands Resort

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/08/2021 22:47

Oh ok. Sorry, I am not helping, I can see that.
I hope it resolves, this year has been so horribly stressful, a holiday snatched from you would be really hard to bear.

Best wishes and fervent hopes for all affected.

CornishTiger · 11/08/2021 06:09

There is a massive staff shortage at moment plus most restaurants are struggling to run even at Covid secure capacity. A lot have closed to anyone not staying there.

Yes supermarkets are pretty bare but that’s normal in the summer. Cornwall like most holiday destinations in UK are busy.

I’d take the refund if you can. If not grim and bear it. Check out less touristy places for food.

Turmerictolly · 11/08/2021 06:36

It's disappointing but I'd still go and have fun. You can get take aways and I'm sure they'll offer you substantial compensation?

shallIswim · 11/08/2021 06:48

Little or nothing in local media down here ( I live in Cornwall). Is there no kitchen due to Covid?
There are so many enterprising food trucks and things around - why aren't the h otel just hiring them to come and park up and cater?

TriciaMcMillan · 11/08/2021 07:03

So sorry to hear this, we got back last week and things were running pretty smoothly then. Must have hit just after we left, what a nightmare.

Just to add though, we had the breakfast in the room which was generally delicious. I think the MNer who referred to a cheeseburger was mistaken, there was a variety of different hot foods different each day, one of which was sausage patty with cheese in brioche or similar. Not my thing, but definitely breakfast fare, DH and kids loved it and certainly not a burger!
