Bedruthan right now

Long shot!
Anyone there right now?
Wondering if they managed to put a plan in place regarding the kitchen?

Can’t get through on phone and emails not been replied to.

All SM says not to bother going to Cornwall if no tables have been booked Sad

Just to add breakfast is definitely not delicious! We only had a hot option on the first day and mine was a lentil burger. We now get cold pastries x2 and muesli!

There is absolutely not substantial compensation, the options were we could have gone home and got a refund or we grin and bear it!

Sorry to hear that, obviously things have taken a massive dip with the kitchen closure. Agree, not an acceptable position.
TriciaMcMillan · 11/08/2021 07:56

Also, no idea what the hell is going on with the quote function on the app!Confused

Rainallnight · 11/08/2021 07:59

Wow, what a bodge. It’s so expensive there too.

Isn’t the Scarlet their sister hotel? Are they offering their restaurant as an alternative?

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 08:01

@Lulu1919
Sands is no longer related to Bedruthan; apparently they become ‘detached’ several years ago. I only found out last year.

OP posts:
PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 08:04

@Lulu1919 They’re owned by cousins I think, so still family members but I was told two completely separate companies now and not part of the Red Group. No connection at all now x

Sands was lovely but a shame about the road and heavy traffic interrupting the view.

@Rainallnight
Yep, Scarlet is the sister hotel and adults only.

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 08:12

We were offered a £50 reduction on a 5night £2800 stay if we chose to arrive yesterday.

At the time of booking there was the kids club, softplay, games room, beach club, as
much swimming we as a guest wanted, all sorts,

They wanted the same money for no product. Then they said they’ve scrapped all that because they think families want quality time together. Clearly no research done as I don’t know any parent who has said this recently Confused

Did you cancel ?
Sounds like a huge amount to pay for a less than perfect holiday?

Alamindah · 11/08/2021 08:15

I'm sorry to read this. Off the path cafe (head inland towards St Mawgan) is fab for breakfast and lunch. Open 10-3 I think. The Falcon in St Mawgan doesn't take bookings, so you should be able to get in there. Lovely big garden and nice food. Cornish fresh, the shop in Mawgan Porth, had good bread, cheese etc, pastries, pasties etc etc. There is a fish snd chip shop. Man selling pizza by crazy golf but get there early as he sells out early. Hope that helps!

ZydecoLaydee · 11/08/2021 08:15

Scarlet not an option, even if we didn’t have the DCs!

yoshiblue · 11/08/2021 08:19

So sorry to read this and sounds so stressful. I'd be cancelling if you can get your money back. Have you decided not to go?

Ah ok
I'm going back 25 years when we first went to Sands..was called Trevelgue then owned by Mr Malcom
The road never bothered us...we always had a higher up room !!
Just remember happy memories ....one day I'll take my grandchildren lol

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 08:31

@rookiemere We had packed, the dog was in kennels, we were minutes away from locking the front door, ready to go then they called to say the kitchen was closed. A very lengthy debate (hours) took place and we chose to not go.

Alamindah · 11/08/2021 08:32

@PercyWercy as a PS to my earlier suggestions, the box at the Trav (travellers rest in Trevarrian, up the hill in the other side of the bay to you) does pizzas in the evenings if it's fine

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 08:51

@ZydecoLaydee
Have you seen @shallIswim’s idea? Maybe suggest that to David Rotheram? He’s not the GM but he is a senior point of contact: Deputy Creative Experience Manager & this could turn a negative experience into a positive one. Local enterprising food trucks can be hired by management to park up and cater?

I saw on their web page that people who had booked full board or whatever are still able to get food in the dining room but anyone who didn’t can’t. What a difficult situation all round. I understand why they’ve had to close or partially close the kitchen but the £50 refund is a kick in the teeth to say the least.

That's shocking! Totally inadequate. There is some accommodation left in Cornwall and Devon on Air B and B and other sites but obviously you're not going to get the facilities. I think I'd accept a full refund and book a last minute stay somewhere just to get away and take advantage of the good weather coming up.

ZydecoLaydee · 11/08/2021 16:37

@Gophering, that is no longer the case, there is no food for anyone.

Marcipex · 11/08/2021 16:47

I’d expect a much bigger refund than £50 if you paid for full board.
£50 might feed you for a day. Only just though.
I’d expect at least £50 per day minimum. £80 would be a fairer rate and that would hardly cover the difference.

Gophering · 11/08/2021 16:56
@Gophering, that is no longer the case, there is no food for anyone.
Wow. That’s awful. I’m so sorry for everyone affected.

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 17:56

@Gophering

We’re not there. We were due to arrive today and we were told in a call yesterday that as we were dinner, bed & breakfast we could use the dining room for takeaways bought in.

£50 discount for the entire stay. What an insult.

@ZydecoLaydee I hope you are as Ok as you can be xx

OP posts:
rookiemere · 11/08/2021 17:58

It seems strange that's all the discount they'd offer versus a full refund for cancellation. You'd think it would be worth their while to have the rooms full albeit at a reduced rate.

VodselForDinner · 11/08/2021 18:01

£50 is definitely an insult.

Surely if they’ve been hit so heavily with Covid, it’s not just kitchen/dining staff and they’re also impacted in terms of housekeeping?

PercyWercy · 11/08/2021 18:25

@rookiemere

The £50 would have been a discount if we had chosen to go. We received our deposit back.

Sorry to hear this Percy could you get something last minute, it's a shame not to have a holiday
