Long shot!
Anyone there right now?
Wondering if they managed to put a plan in place regarding the kitchen?

Can’t get through on phone and emails not been replied to.

All SM says not to bother going to Cornwall if no tables have been booked Sad

We’ve spent hours looking. It’s been relentless and now DH is nervous and thinks we’ll get burned again so we’ve cut our losses for this year….just like last year.

There’s a saying “We can always get more money but we’ll never get more time”. Right now the 3 of us will just have family time together at home and have local days out I guess. Not what we envisioned at all but better than what a lot of others are going through and have been through over the last 18 months.

So sorry about your holiday @PercyWercy. We have a holiday let but it is booked solidly til the end of October, when I've voluntarily decided to shut up shop. It's been relentless and I'd like to get away myself to see my grown up son.
i suspect the picture for bookings is the same everywhere.
I hope you get some good outings from where you live - a proper staycation xx

I am so sorry Percy.

I know you'll make the best of it, but it stings, doesn't it.

ZydecoLaydee · 12/08/2021 10:51

@PercyWercy I’m so sorry, but if it makes you feel any better I think you made the right decision! Last night’s dinner was McDonald’s from Cornwall services. We couldn’t face pizza for the 3rd night in a row!

We’ve had a shocker of an 18 months, DH has been working on the vaccine and I’m a infectious disease doctor. We lost 2 grandparents, 1 close friend and several colleagues to the virus. I haven’t seen my parents for 2 years. I was looking forward to this break so very much! Sad

I have to say I'm not surprised that they offered such a pitiful discount. We stayed there many many times when DC were younger as it worked for us but a more money grabbing business I have yet to see - every year something else had to be paid for for "just" this supplement or that. Often also dressed up as a green initiative - best one was when they introduced a supplementary charge for orange juice at breakfast as oranges were environmentally unfriendly but still had a bucketful of orange slices to adorn their overpriced cocktails.....

I'd imagine it's pretty chaotic around the whole area with Boardmasters at Watergate Bay, so could make it even harder to get food. We've had some great holidays at Bedruthan and at Watergate Bay, sorry this has happened to you.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/08/2021 14:44

I don't understand this Confused

If you've paid for dinner and breakfast that's hundreds of pounds worth of food for a family - how can they only offer a £50 discount?

Is that ON TOP of the difference in room rates for a room with bed and breakfast and a room with dinner?

The difference in the room rates at the Scarlet for example is about £400-£500 for the week more if you have dinner

That's awful! I was looking at their website recently and was confused as I was sure I remembered them being recommended several years back and having childcare included in the manner of Crieff Hydro up here in Scotland but it sounds like that's all gone and now it's just a (not particularly functional!) ordinary hotel.

Nothing to add other than Jesus. I'm so sorry. 😖

CornishTiger · 12/08/2021 21:09

@ZydecoLaydee do you need local pub recommendations a little bit away from Newquay?

ZydecoLaydee · 13/08/2021 08:49

@CornishTiger, thanks, we did a few but so many were booked. To add to my miserable holiday this morning I was served a meat option as a vegetarian and I ate 2 bites before I realised! Sad

PercyWercy · 15/08/2021 14:27

Interesting Hmm A scathing review was left on TripAdvisor on Friday…it’s no longer on there.

@ZydecoLaydee You left yesterday I think?
Hope your journey home was ok x

It's on their website that the restaurants will be closed until 29th August and they are only taking afternoon tea bookings from the 30th.

I am guessing most kids will be back at school then anyway.
