Due to holiday on Greek Island in 2 weeks. Really anxiety inducing, anyone in the area boat or can offer reassurance?

@Dontrainonmyparade

Posting from Zakinthos. We are here. Relatively stress free, everything seemed correct and airport and flight were v quiet. Plenty of people who still don’t grasp how they should wear their mask Hmm and/or are incapable of following basic instructions. But honestly we are really glad to be here and looking forward to a long awaited break! Enjoy your holidays all!
I am in Zante now too and noticed this.

On another note are you also finding it far too hot? 🥵

Summersdreaming · 04/08/2021 07:46

I forgot to ask - what are the mask rules on the islands? Last year in corfu we had to wear masks in communal areas of the hotel except the pool, so mask on to go to the bar etc. And restaurants/public transport. Is it still the same or a bit more relaxed?

Summersdreaming · 04/08/2021 07:47

Also, is there still a midnight curfew?

poshme · 04/08/2021 07:52

We're in Crete.

Smaller villages- quite relaxed about masks in shops. We're Only eating outside and some waiters wearing masks.

Larger towns- everyone wearing masks in supermarket. All waiters wearing masks.

No one wearing masks on beach.

We're not in a hotel so can't help with that sorry.

ilkleymoorbartat · 04/08/2021 08:32

Thank you @poshme

Dontrainonmyparade · 04/08/2021 11:18

@BillThePony it’s hot hot hot! but we aren’t finding it too bad, plenty of sun cream/shade etc. I actually brought trainers to go for a run a couple of times but it may be too hot for that!!!

@Summersdreaming our hotel is apartments really and there’s a pool bar but it’s all outside really so no masks.

FizzyPink · 04/08/2021 11:35

Bit of a random question but I’ve heard from so many people recently who have been notified they need to isolate after arriving home from a holiday presumably because of a positive contact on the plane.

Obviously if that happened we would isolate. However, my job involves a lot of client calls and presentations. Does anyone know what happens if test and trace show up and you don’t answer the door or whether it would be sufficient for DP to open the door and say I’m on a call?

I wouldn’t usually worry so much but it’s a brand new job and I imagine they’d be pissed off enough at me having to isolate never mind being interrupted on client calls.

Smile DH and I are sitting Tsilivi beach and every time we feel the slightest breeze we get excited. We are definitely sticking to June or end of sSeptember in future

Delatron · 04/08/2021 12:21

Does the isolating after a plane case stop after the 16th August? Hasn’t thought about the way home. We can isolate but 10 days takes us to the first day of school so would rather not!

FizzyPink · 04/08/2021 12:26

@Delatron that’s a good point I hadn’t thought of! We’re both fully jabbed so hopefully that would mean we wouldn’t need to self isolate if we were near a positive case on the plane

Delatron · 04/08/2021 12:40

Let’s hope so @FizzyPink one less thing to stress about!

newboe · 04/08/2021 12:42

I'm on a Greek island. With a 1 year old- honestly felt no different to usual apart from being a tiny bit more organised with paperwork. Did a rapid antigen test before going (not double vaxed), £28. All really easy

Summersdreaming · 04/08/2021 13:19

You are all getting me a bit excited now Grin 2 weeks to go!

GrealishHairband · 04/08/2021 14:01

Bloody hell, just frightened myself reading a horror story re Greek quarantine on the Daily Mail. I deserve everything I get for even venturing over there I know.

Does anyone know what QR codes are being tested on arrival?

ArabellaPilkington · 04/08/2021 14:26

Grealish- it's super random - we arrived in Heraklion last Sunday and no one was being tested

ArabellaPilkington · 04/08/2021 14:30

Grealish - you do not deserve everything you get. Really don't say that. We've been indoctrinated to believe that - your teens will be safer than most others having had it and recovered from it!!! The scaremongering has honestly reached epic levels in the UK.

I'm not reading any press whilst I'm here and it's utter utter bliss.

I have every confidence all will be well and you will have a wonderful well deserved break.

GrealishHairband · 04/08/2021 15:00

Ahh cheers @ArabellaPilkington, I was more referring to my going on the daily Mail website and getting scared 😏

However you’re right in one respect. There is definitely an air of ‘if something goes wrong re your holiday it’s your own fault for booking it, we’re in a pandemic don’t you know’ which I find increasingly irritating!

ArabellaPilkington · 04/08/2021 15:04

Ah the Fail sorry I misunderstood!!!

magsbagsfags · 04/08/2021 16:37

Can I pls ask if you guys did rapid antigen or PCR tests?

Thanks!!

BabyYoda9 · 04/08/2021 16:51

God yes it's boiling! We ventured into Zante Town, got there and realised it was far too hot to do anything. Came back and fell into the pool with a sigh of relief 😂 Hopefully it'll be a bit cooler by Fri and we can try again.

iwantavuvezela · 04/08/2021 16:55

So (fingers crossed) we fly on Friday morning. (14 year old and me). We really need this break as have had the hardest of years

I am double vaxed (downloaded the proof of this and on NHS app)
DD went for PRC test today (better be negative)
Have ordered both day 2 tests (have barcode which I imagine goes on form when for on way back)
Will do test before we fly back to UK on island. (Checked this is possible)
Filled out PLF for Greece

If anyone notices anything that I have missed please feel free to point it out!

Also when going to airport did you do the usual 2 hours before?

ByersGreen · 04/08/2021 21:17

Any word from anyone in Greece or the islands about the heatwave and fires, sounds awful.

ArabellaPilkington · 05/08/2021 03:36

We did 3 hours before to allow for all the additional checks at check in but it was all v well organised so this probs wasn't necessary

Yes it's hot but we like it hot - had a day trip yesterday walking around and nobody suffered too much, nothing a cold beer/iced tea couldn't sort anyway. Staying by the coast is key - so even though it's 37 degrees the sea breeze makes a massive difference

No fires here

For ferries the police are checking Covid stuff quite closely. So NHS app plus self certification docs for DC ( you get them there)

Under 18s only need LFT/antigen all the way though until the return Day 2. No need to pay the extra for PCR until then

ElBurro · 05/08/2021 08:06

Hi all - for those out in Greece already, are you still paying cash for meals etc or do places want contactless now? Just wondering how many euros to take and if covid has affected this.

ArabellaPilkington · 05/08/2021 08:14

Re cash

Some places are fine with card or cash

We have tended to have the opposite tho and it seems cash is still king here!
