Which city for a break in France or Germany

Best cities to visit in France and/or Germany for 3 days with a 16 year old. Not Paris as we’ve already been there. Would like to visit both countries.

Thank you

Strasbourg. Can cross over easily to Germany and it's lovely. In Germany, maybe Heidelberg?

QuentininQuarantino · 04/06/2021 19:23

I love Munich and Berlin, or Bordeaux

HarrisMcCoo · 04/06/2021 19:24

Munich without a doubt.

Notavegan · 04/06/2021 19:26

Much preferred Berlin to Munich personally and it's got a cool vibe a teen may like.

Thank you everyone, much appreciated ☺️

I love Berlin

ShonkyCat · 05/06/2021 07:04

Berlin or Hamburg.

LunaTheCat · 05/06/2021 07:15

Berlin - amazing history, very cool and a great city for 16 year old, lovely people, great beer.

MsTSwift · 05/06/2021 07:19

We had our best city break ever in Berlin. Super cool so kids impressed and best of all they had these massive outdoor lidos so we would spend the morning swimming then go to a museum etc.

We found an outdoor swimming pool in the east of the city in a disused factory with a DJ etc full of twenty somethings. Kids still talk about it my then 10 year old said she was “coming to live here” as soon as she could 😁

MsTSwift · 05/06/2021 07:20

Munich’s nice but nowhere near as cool as Berlin!

Ylvamoon · 05/06/2021 07:21

I second Strasbourg, you can take a train to Germany and either go to Karlsruhe or Freiburg. All 3 cities are very different and beautiful in their own right.

itwa · 05/06/2021 07:23

In France, we had a couple of days in Nantes, mainly to see the Mechanical Animals.

Great little city.

givememarmite · 05/06/2021 07:23

@ShonkyCat

Berlin or Hamburg.
These would be my suggestions too with a 16 year old. Both very cool cities, so much to see. Berlin is very trendy, edgy, Hamburg is just great. Munich is lovely but more of a traditional vibe. Depends what the teenager prefers I guess!
applespearslemons · 05/06/2021 07:27

Bordeaux is lovely and you can day trip from there too to other towns in the region

Munich or Nuremberg

ShonkyCat · 06/06/2021 07:13

Just occurred to me that you said it was going to be a summer trip so northern Germany is going to be preferable to the south where it may well be unpleasantly hot at that time of year.

deplorabelle · 06/06/2021 08:12

Cologne was one of our best trips ever. We did a day trip to Bonn on the light rail which was easy and interesting. We planned to go to Aachen too but ran out of time. The cathedral square and Roman mosaics are stunning. If you time your trip to coincide with Corpus Christi there's an enormous procession and outdoor service at the cathedral.

MsTSwift · 06/06/2021 08:30

Sounds lovely but would the teen be interested in Roman mosaics?! Ours wouldn’t! I would also possibly unfairly be wary of cologne after reading about the mass sexual assault there as our teens both girls.

If summer definitely pick somewhere with lots of swimming as mentioned Berlin has lots of lidos we could cool down in.

tenredthings · 06/06/2021 08:37

We had a great city break with teens in Berlin, so much to see and do. It felt really safe spacious, big wide streets, lots of history and cool graffiti. You can visit the nuclear bunker hidden in the underground station which our teens enjoyed.

DotsandCo · 06/06/2021 09:46

I agree with Cologne, it's beautiful! I used to live 20 minutes away and spent many happy hours there ❤️

FindingMeno · 06/06/2021 09:47

I loved Marseilles.

Raggeo · 06/06/2021 09:54

Lyon is one of my favourite French cities. Nice food, plenty of places to visit, good shopping, weather usually nice from spring to autumn. Also like strasbourg if you wanted to cross over to Germany too, or Colmar is beautiful. Don't know Germany so well but Berlin is a cool city for a teenager.

theDudesmummy · 06/06/2021 09:56

If you would consider Austria as well, Vienne is lovely.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 06/06/2021 10:01

Berlin.

(Munich is nice but a bit staid (trust me - I live here and have a 15 year old!))

Toddlerteaplease · 06/06/2021 10:17

@deplorabelle Corpus Christi is today. So a bit late for this year!
