Which city for a break in France or Germany

Best cities to visit in France and/or Germany for 3 days with a 16 year old. Not Paris as we’ve already been there. Would like to visit both countries.

Agree about Aix, my grandparents lived there, it’s beautiful but a bit staid and unpleasantly hot in summer. Got yelled at by gendarmes for putting my toddler in one of the fountains, you’d have thought I’d just relieved myself on the Cours Mirabeau. Not really teenage friendly.
