Best cities to visit in France and/or Germany for 3 days with a 16 year old. Not Paris as we’ve already been there. Would like to visit both countries.

Thank you

Toulouse is lovely.

Lanique · 06/06/2021 10:18

Berlin - my two loved it (they were early teens at the time)

ChateauMargaux · 06/06/2021 18:25

Lyon.. we live in France and just spent a wondeful weekend there. Also Monpellier, Nice, Biarritz.. all fun.

notacooldad · 06/06/2021 18:27

Berlin or Munich.

Love them both.

Hoppinggreen · 06/06/2021 18:30

Munich, Nuremberg, Freiburg

Berlin! Perfect for a 16 year old.
Munich is beautiful and has amazing culture, but is not remotely teen-friendly.

AppleSouffle · 06/06/2021 18:53

Berlin, hands down!

whiteroseredrose · 06/06/2021 19:14

Strasbourg is really pretty but Berlin has so much to do.

Obviously there is the WW2 aspect, the Berlin Wall and Cold War stuff, plus the Pergamon museums.

You can get a train to Pottsdam with its palaces and gardens or to Sachenhausen concentration camp.

We were there for 5 days and barely touched the surface!

whiteroseredrose · 06/06/2021 19:15

Plus at 16 you can legally have a beer out!

And Corpus Christi wasn't today anyway, it was on Thursday. It's always on a Thursday...

Toddlerteaplease · 06/06/2021 22:22

In the RC church in England and Wales, it was today.

SpookieDookie · 06/06/2021 22:55

Nice, Marseille, St Malo, Strasbourg.

Shangrilalala · 06/06/2021 23:14

Berlin is a brilliant city break, with a day trip to Potsdam in the summer. Bliss.

Biarritz or Deauville/Honfleur/Normandy Beaches. If we could escape for a mini break right now, that’s where I’d be heading!

ShonkyCat · 07/06/2021 05:55

Really? Ok, it's always a Thursday in Germany as far as I am aware and I think the procession on Cologne that was referred to by a PP would be on the Thursday.

Anyway, this is irrelevant as the OP should obviously go to Berlin or Hamburg. Wink

littleredberries · 07/06/2021 06:33

Hannover?

Shangrilalala · 07/06/2021 08:41

Forget to say Wurzburg - quite a gem.

yoshiblue · 07/06/2021 08:46

Berlin. My DH is half German so we've travelled all over. There are endless things to do and places to visit and has the cool vibe. For a teenager, southern places like Munich and Nuremberg are very traditional and don't compare.

For France you can't beat Paris of course.

What about Bologna in Italy? Sorry not on brief, but it's a big university city and has lots of cool restaurants, bars, cafes to explore through its historic streets. Quite compact too, so easy to get around.

yoshiblue · 07/06/2021 08:47

Sorry is missed you'd been to Paris! 😳 I've not been but would look into Lyon.

LesLavandes · 07/06/2021 08:57

Aix en Provence

Hairbrush123 · 07/06/2021 10:18

I wasn’t crazy about Berlin. I didn’t like the communist architecture however I loved Museum Island.

I would recommend Hamburg, Lyon and Munich.

I wasn't crazy about Berlin tbe first time I went but the next time I went to Mauerpark on a Sunday, and watched all the different artists, musicians and performers as well as going to the flea Market next to it.went on a boat trip on the lake, went to the indoor food Market went to the Spy museum. I loved going to the Reichstag. I also loved the Monsterkabinett. Great fun!
Fabulous for teens.

BestofLuck · 09/06/2021 15:55

Annecy is a fabulous place. Has added bonus of being by lakes and mountains. Nimes is also lovely.

Longdistance · 09/06/2021 16:05

Nice is great. Lyon’s a good shout too (gastronomy capital of France).
Berlin is a good shout. Munich too (for beer).

MsTSwift · 09/06/2021 16:06

I think if your teen is remotely cool they will get more out of Berlin than trailing round beautiful “traditional” cities like Munich or Aix. Ours liked the party hipster vibe graffiti lots of independent cafes etc of Berlin plus the swimming. But teens are different
