Where can I find an EXPERIENCED travel nanny to fly London - Sydney - London?????????????????

I'd rather not pay a recruitment agents fee, I've searched google, and still nothing......

I need an experience nanny who has the experience of entertaining my 2 year old son for the flight from London to Hong Kong (stay over night) then Hong Kong to Sydney - stay in Sydney for a month then back again. I'm a nervous wreck! I'll be on the flight too but can't stand the thought of my son not being happy or being able to run around.

I'll of course pay for the nanny's flight etc, does anyone know where I can find someone with experience without paying a recruitment fee?????

Thanks

but anyway, I am planning on winning the lottery shortly so will hire a jet for my own use

There was something in the times today about drugging kids on flights, and one of the comments was along the lines of "They've paid their fare, they can do what they like", and another was, "yes, we've all paid our fares, but we don't all scream and kick the seat in front".

I'm of the latter opinion. Only took my kids on one flight before they were five and it was a bloody nightmare.

lionheart · 25/09/2007 10:53

Drugging them? Really?

Sits back and waits to be told everyone does it.

RTKangaMummy · 25/09/2007 10:54

btw toddlers are allowed in business class upstairs on AIR NEW ZEALAND as are incredibly loud annoying women who talk in a very loud voice to her husband sitting next to her!!!!!!!!!!

Loud Woman far more annoying than a toddler who slept most of the trip

btw the woman was right behind the 1st class passengers with only a curtain between them

oliveoil · 25/09/2007 10:54

drugging them with what? Medised or Something More Sinister?

StarryStarryNight · 25/09/2007 10:58

I travel frequently alone with my two children. It does not have to be a problem, in fact it can be quite enjoyable. I just have to plan what i bring for entertainment. Crayons, paper, colouring in book, books (not puzzles as pieces get lost) a few toy cars, important thing is that it is all new and not been played with before.

Each child have their own little travel rucksack, where they have packed lunches (not sweets, it will make they haywire and queesy), fruit, drinks, toys, books, crayons, etc. Looking at airplanes, pointing out what we see in the airport, talking about where we are going, what we are going to do there, we make it into an adventure.

Can you spot the bag on the conveor belt? Who can see it first? Can you help mummy find the passport control? Where do we check our bags in again? Who can spot the cafe for a spot of lunch before boarding the next plane. Do you think there is a playground here? What can we buy as a gift for granny/aunty/cousin etc....

My friend got her travel nanny on Gumtree, she was 37, experienced, and a real pleasure to be with on holiday in france, according to my friend. If you can afford it, and dont think you can do it on your own, try place an ad there.

WideWebWitch · 25/09/2007 11:00

last time we flew we used this

CountessDracula · 25/09/2007 11:00

Blimey
I would do it at the drop of a hat!

My mother took me aged 4 and my brother aged 1 to Australia on her own in 1970 - it took 2 days and multiple stops....

CountessDracula · 25/09/2007 11:01

Oh and if this is a serious Q you could always fly with Gulf Air who have sky nannies

CountessDracula · 25/09/2007 11:03

here this might help too

You see the thing that I love about Mumsnet is that whilst you might get some abuse, you'll actually also get some answers to your question.

RTKM - not sure when your AirNZ experience was but they don't have a first class cabin anymore (and haven't for some time). It is hard to get first class facilities these days[sigh].

RTKangaMummy · 25/09/2007 11:27

Last year August {2006} we flew LHR ~ AKL via LAX and then back again

We were upstairs in Premium {business} and the Upper class were downstairs and were in front of us on other side of the curtain

Ok ladymuck, I guess it could have changed in 13 months but I am surprised if it does.

BTW the toilets are all the same for the top 2 classes - which always surprises me

Why not make the bar area smaller and the toilet bigger???

LieselVentouse · 25/09/2007 11:28

yeah totally (((pretending to understand what Kangas on about))
