So where should I take the children away for the weekend that isn't Brighton and isn't a hassle?

I know, I'm very lazy. But dh about to bugger off for a few weeks. I'm madly busy at work. Will be throwing children at the mercy of friends, MIL, anyone who looks like they vaguely know what to do with them and thought it might be quite nice to take them away for a night in a hotel on the weekend.

We're SW London (v near to start of M3) and wherever it is, we'll drive there but I don't want to be driving for hours.

Can anyone think of anywhere

would the only thing worse than legoland be having to get there by boat?

Cammelia · 14/09/2007 11:08

Sorry outponcing you all, took dd to last w/end of Dali & Film exhibition, and wore the audioguides

bossykate · 14/09/2007 11:09

no sorry, cam, that's only a gallery trip, ten a penny. i still think gamelan orchestra workshop is the leader by a mile

Cammelia · 14/09/2007 11:09

fox go to visit cod in salisbury

Cammelia · 14/09/2007 11:11

ok, but dd did start mandarin as her Wednesday afternoon school activity choice last week

She's far poncier than me

foxinsocks · 14/09/2007 11:11

I actually drove through Codford the other day and thought of her while trying to spot the yellow elephant slidy thing that used to be outside the Happy Eater on the A38 (if you know it).

I used to be SUCH a good traveller. Loved boats, planes, trains, fairground rides.

Then I got a bugger of an ear infection and it screwed up my inner ear and now I get bloody travel sick helping the kids play computer games grrrrrr. Tis a right pain.

Yes, I wish we had done the gamelan workshop. Did a day trip to Kew.

bossykate · 14/09/2007 11:16

ooh that is on our list - henry moore etc. how was it?

Blu · 14/09/2007 11:19

The Henry Moores are wonderful and really work in the setting. Very well positioned.
But we were embroiled in a row and grumped about a bit until I pretended to push DH into a massive viscious cactus to serve him right. Hence my wish I had taken DS to gamelan workshop.

bossykate · 14/09/2007 11:19

it was only pretending... right?

Blu · 14/09/2007 11:21

Yes! I would never damage a specimin at a World Heritage Site

The phrase 'big prick' was hissed though....

Cammelia · 14/09/2007 11:32

MarinaLaPasionaria · 14/09/2007 11:34

Good Grief I am slow! Cammelia! XXX

MarinaLaPasionaria · 14/09/2007 11:35

Oh blu, desecrating the still monolithic majesty of Henry Moore with your TMI SM rituals family disputes How could you

Blu · 14/09/2007 11:36

Aha - and there was i thinking...'all these v sensible / funny new posters i am noticing, Cammelia, threadworm...'

Sorry Foxy - back to your w/e.....

bossykate · 14/09/2007 11:38

sorry, fox.

who's threadworm?

Blu · 14/09/2007 11:40

Marina - then...and I don't quite know what on earth I was thinking or where I had got this idea from...I said clearly as we were all looking at a sculpture "and Henry Moore was blind, you know!". DP said 'rubbish' and phoned my (art historian) sister to check and a woman who had overheard hovvered to hear the answer as she clearly thought I was barking too.

MarinaLaPasionaria · 14/09/2007 11:43

LOLOLOLOL, some would say it just looked that way, Blu. Priceless
Threadworm is SixKindsofCrisis
Sorry foxy, what have you decided? Can we all come too and show you up in public?

MarinaLaPasionaria · 14/09/2007 11:44

You can rely on us all for an informed critique of whatever cultural events you decide to soak up

Blu · 14/09/2007 11:45

Threadworm was very funny on the 'Grand old Duke of York' News thread, and various others.

Cammelia · 14/09/2007 11:50

Cammelia, threadworm

That's nice innit

foxinsocks · 14/09/2007 11:51
