So where should I take the children away for the weekend that isn't Brighton and isn't a hassle?

I know, I'm very lazy. But dh about to bugger off for a few weeks. I'm madly busy at work. Will be throwing children at the mercy of friends, MIL, anyone who looks like they vaguely know what to do with them and thought it might be quite nice to take them away for a night in a hotel on the weekend.

We're SW London (v near to start of M3) and wherever it is, we'll drive there but I don't want to be driving for hours.

Can anyone think of anywhere

Or Bournemouth, great beaches

foxinsocks · 14/09/2007 10:54

gawd, mine love hotels for some reason (not that we've stayed in many).

They race round the room pressing all the buttons and making the TV work. They find it all very exciting.

bossykate · 14/09/2007 11:01

oy, cod. i am poncey mcponce. took the kids to a gamelan orchestra workshop at the royal festival hall last sunday.

choosyfloosy · 14/09/2007 11:01

google farmstay or stay on a farm or whatever

would thoroughly not recommend winchester though perhaps biased as chose it for a dirty weekend some years ago and it was stupefyingly dull, also lived there for a couple of years later and likewise

Brockenhurst (nEW fOREST) on the train (very frequent service from waterloo; go riding and walking in forest

Go to Devon and let them run mad on the beaches. Bit if a drive but thankfully is not like August madness.

foxinsocks · 14/09/2007 11:07

I want to cry at the thought of Legoland. All that queuing.

Although we are not far from Chessington or Thorpe Park and those are certainly more doable. But then I'd probably invite friends to come with us. .

It would certainly be a treat for them (but horrors for me).
