dh and I want to go somewhere really lovely for a weekend for our wedding anniversary this year (end sept). We have rather neglected our anniversary for a few years since dd has been around, we have had a bit of a tough time recently which we have come through and have really sorted out and we are madly in lurve . We would really love to go somewhere relaxing and beautiful and stay somewhere small and intimate and fab. Nothing too designery really, maybe with nice antiques and big snuggly bed and a balcony with a view...

All suggestions welcomed...

What about la mamounia Marrakesh? Or alternatively a good riad there?

OldieMum · 12/06/2007 22:27

We spent my 40th birthday here www.loggiatodeiservitihotel.it/en/index.htm . We found it in the Good Hotel Guide, which it's been in for years. It's small, furnished with antiques and is on one of the most beautiful squares in Florence. We asked for a special room and got one at the top, with a four poster and a view of the Duomo. No restaurant, but that's not a problem in the centre of Florence. The whole trip was magical.

That looks lovely Oldiemum!

That must have been a great birthday!

Any restaurant recomendations - off there in August for our anniversary?

soapbox · 12/06/2007 22:31

are you looking for something a bit more shabby chic or boho sort of looking, CD?

soapbox · 12/06/2007 22:32

Oops that was supposed to be a sort of hmmmmm we're not hitting the mark hmm, not an angry I'm getting tired of this

OldieMum · 12/06/2007 23:03

Soapbox - it was a wonderful birthday. Only surpassed by my 41st birthday, when DD was born. We had had eight failed attempts at fertility treatment in a fairly short period. I decided I didn't want to spend my 40th having yet another round of failed IVF treatment, so we took a break for a few months and had breaks in both Venice and Florence. We tried again a few months later and ... In the same square as the hotel, there is the old foundlings hospital, now the European HQ for UNICEF. It seemed like a good omen, and it was.

It's too long ago for me to remember restaurants off hand - five and a half years (ahem!). If I can find the guidebook, I'll check - unfortunately, most of our books are in storage at the moment.
