dh and I want to go somewhere really lovely for a weekend for our wedding anniversary this year (end sept). We have rather neglected our anniversary for a few years since dd has been around, we have had a bit of a tough time recently which we have come through and have really sorted out and we are madly in lurve . We would really love to go somewhere relaxing and beautiful and stay somewhere small and intimate and fab. Nothing too designery really, maybe with nice antiques and big snuggly bed and a balcony with a view...

All suggestions welcomed...

That one in venice 'some rooms have terraces' and look at the restaurant overlooking the Grand canal!!!

vary expensive though I should think (can't see the prices, nit a good sign)

Rosa · 13/06/2007 13:29

Blimey you are a tough cookie to please...Ok so am going to have one last go and then give up !!! Terraces or balconies are costly but here you go....
www.hotelmonaco.it also look at Palazzo Selvadego its lovely ..Ok no terraces but some rroms have view. MOnaco has a FANTASTIC terrace and restaurant overlooking the lagoon. Loads of nice lounges/ bars that are always quiet. Its not too quirky a bit trendier that others??

has more rooms to the right with balconies

has garden and pool romantic

FelicityMontgomery · 13/06/2007 13:31

Oh yes the Gritti Palace!!! we were going to stay there on our honeymoon, but decided foolishly to economise and went somewhere mediocre.

We sould have gone there. Learn from ur mistakes.

sofa hotel in istanbul is great.
its a city
hotel is super
and small
near the bars/shopping

i wouldnt recommend vencie. although its truly romantic, it has become so touristy , so many places are tourist traps and not authentic and the summer is not a good time to go, it gets extremely hot, sticky, and smelly in there

CountessDracula · 13/06/2007 13:43

yes I clocked the sofa earlier, looks lvoely

Florence is great but it's not exactly bustling iwth night life, its more of a student town but no doubt it is one of the most charming cities in italy

What about Reykjavik or Stockholm?

CountessDracula · 13/06/2007 13:43

four seasons one looks fab too

CountessDracula · 13/06/2007 13:43

sofa is really great, they have service down to the last detail

istanbul is also very dynamic which makes it great for a short and exciting getaway

Rosa · 13/06/2007 13:47

Well lordy me we have an ok from CD ( sits down in amazement)

Hotel Monaco ....Go onto site then go on foto gallery it shows rooms in modern style and also Venetian style. And yes you can say which kind you would like. I think though the creamier Venetian ones are the ones overlooking the lagoon.
Link on from that site to Palazzo Selvadego and do the same thing.

P.s The Gritti Palace room with a view £800 a night

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 13/06/2007 13:47

i saw prague below, what about prague? its one of the only european cities i haven't been to and have heard wonderful things.

what about the french riviera? (other than st tropez or cannes)

littlepicklesmum · 13/06/2007 14:15

You've got far more patience than me!!

Anyway what about this
www.venicehotel.com/

bluesky · 13/06/2007 14:36

Hotel La Residencia in Deia, Majorca was somewhere that old clients of mine used to go to regularly as incentive award weekends, a real treat sort of place apparently.

It's on my wish list for one day!!

Anna8888 · 13/06/2007 14:41

Florence. Hotel Cellai. Lovely antiques, cosy, owner will tell you where to go and eat etc, he knows everything (friend of mine).

Eleusis · 13/06/2007 14:42

yawn.... CD is SOOOOOO difficult sometimes.
